Dont know whether this is a no go topic, but has anyone ever had cortisone injections to treat an injury?, did you find it effective?, is it a doctor or a physio who administers it?

I have had it,needed a shot in my shoulder for tendon inflammation. Its effectiveness only lasted a few months then i was back in pain.

Give acupuncture a blast! it was the only thing that helped me.

Got a couple of cortisone injections in the sole of my foot. Hurt like hell for a couple of days, then pain free for about four months. I thought it was worth it.

I tried acupuncture, it didn't do a thing for me. But it might work for you.

I had one in my wrist several years ago as I had de quervens syndrome (kinda like carpel tunnel syndrome). it took about 2 weeks to kick in and I've been brand new since. I had tried every thing else - physio , acupuncture (which I've found great for many other injuries) etc. but the cortisone was the last resort and it worked. Dr Noel Mc Caffery in O'neils sports medicine did mine.

Most problems continue only because the treated area isnt rested after the treatment. You have to remember that this drug will break tissue down, its a quick fix i reckon speak to your doc and he can explain all the pros&cons to you

I had it into the shoulder. Administered by a surgeon (who eventually went on to operate on my shoulder). It was administered with a local anestethic in my case. Was fine for that day (i.e. it was numb) but the following few days it hurt like hell and was back to square one the following week. Went for surgery about 5 months after that and on the road to recovery now.... physio - gym - physio - gym.

Its worth going for just the one injection to see if it would make a difference but prolonged injections have been known to cause problems e.g Osteoporosis
