I spend most of my time on Facebook and Twitter talking crap about other people. Does that make me an exception?

How do you happen across someone called Lady Faghag?

What were you searching for? :p

So I just happened across the new Lady Faghag video on the net, watched a bit of it and couldn't help but notice all the comments below it praising her and her "artsy" videos...

First off I'm ashamed at myself for watching some of the bloody thing, but people actually like this crap and think its somehow cutting edge and brilliant? Also, people seem to think shes quirky and "mad". Am I the only one that notices its all an act. She's not "mad" by any sense of the word. If anything shes mundayne and irrelevant.

The real problem is the number of people of this mindset (1 billion views or something on youtube). I'm sure 90% of you reading this disagree with me, mostly because you're part of this group and have long since lost any sense of critical thought.

Honestly, before you decide to bombard this thread with comments, ask yourself this:
    1. What percentage of your day is spent talking about tv soaps and/or celebrities?
    2. Do you buy crappy newspapers, womens mags or lads mags?
    3. Do you spend a lot of time on Facebook/Twitter talking crap about yourself?
    4. Do you describe yourself as "mad" or "crazy"?
    5. When the weekend comes do you shout it from the rooftops that you are going out "woohoo"?
    6. Do you shy away from intellectual conversation or say something witty like "Oh here we go again!" when somebody tries to talk about a relevant or important issue?

    1. 0% - zilch.
    2. Nope, none, nada.
    3. You got to be kidding me! No.
    4. No. Unique.
    5. As my work is over any 7 days of the week, no.
    6. I'm usually the one doing the boring (as some might see it) relevant talking.

Yes, parts of our world is fcuked - but others aren't.
You can either give up, swim in it in the same direction or chose one of your own.

So if somebody does not subscribe to your line of opinion they are somehow "less intelligent"?

You looked at it, did you not? And yet you are not of this mindset. Is it therefore, that hard for you to work out that maybe not all of the viewers are of the same mindset? A person of limited intelligence could see that ffs.

    1)0%
2)No, but I'd like you to define what you consider crappy.
3)No, don't have an account, but millions do.....
    4)No
    5)No, who does? Do you?
6)Intellectual conversation...hmmmmm..only when it actually is more benign than the starter actually thinks it is.
    The world is F*!$%*
Indeed it is, and thank f**k we have people like you to save us!! Yawn...

You really missed the point of the post.

Someone politically incorrect might add that such people often start breeding in their early teens, while educated career orientated persons have a couple of sprogs in their mid-late thirties, by the time the original wasters highly developed individuals are grandparents. So someone who could educate their child, pass on their knowledge and experience, and progress the human race's intellectual and creative abilities does so after 30 years while the fools in action have 6 kids and 4-5 grandchildren, in that same time period, nurtured as well as they could be by teenage parents. But it would be wrong to suggest that teenagers / children cannot raise children to the same standards as a world wary 35+ parent? After all they certainly have no problem financially as the 35 year old pays for their welfare in tax.

I used to think the same but then I came to the conclusion that somehow the West needs consumers more than it needs producers or innovators (certainly in terms of a ratio at least). There's no other explanation as to why certain sections of the population are allowed (and even encouraged) to perpetuate. Basically we need more people doing mcjobs than we need doing "real" jobs and our society is being shaped and funneled in that direction to fit the demand.

I seem to have touched a nerve however.
Anyone else hate this smug, presumptuous expression which always gets resorted to as part of a toys-being-thrown-out-of-the-pram-wah-wah-mammy-they're-mean-they-don't-agree-with-me exercise? It implies people are defensive because deep down they know the OP is right, but actually it's the OP getting stroppy because people don't share their opinion.
OP, you haven't "touched a nerve", you have however barged on here insulting people.

What about all those people who were having children very young in previous generations?
Finally, someone who agrees with me, therefore they're rational.
    FYP

Translation: people don't agree with me and I am incapable of holding a reasoned argument.

Doesn't mean people here don't think Lady GaGa, celeb gossip etc are sh1te though - they just don't appreciate being talked down to by you.

    Some people are stupid.

Our education minister is stupid, she has asked for a grade E in maths to be acceptable for third level education.

90 per cent of people are ignorant as pig****. That's the way its always been.

But never have the unwashed masses been so aggressively anti-intellectual in western Europe, nor has learning been possessed of so little value or admiration.

Never has a substantive, informed argument counted for so little or the brainless, Joe Duffy calling, chattering, troglodytes counted for so much.
It used to be that great men shaped nations, and not every gob****e that had the dexterity to text Newstalk.
It used to be that the lowest common denominator knew it was the lowest common denominator and shut it's mouth for any purpose other than breathing.
The barbarians are at the gates I tell ya and the hero's of the Enlightenment must be rolling in their graves! Great empires are rarely destroyed, they merely rot from within.

BTW, does anybody know if Katie Price has really been knocked up by that cage fighter bloke? Inquiring minds need to know! :D

Apparently people are getting higher results in such exams as the Leaving Cert. But there's also allegations of grade inflation and the like for the Leaving cert and college exams. This might suggest in fact that the average person's intelligence is either the same as it was 100 years ago or it is a little lower. One must not excuse the fact that intelligence and knowledge aren't exactly the same. One should ask if the average person's ability to rationalise has changed over the past one hundred years.

However, according to evolution an average humans ability to rationalise should be increasing and only after a period of several thousand years would a noticeable difference be recognised. Of course, an increase of intelligence would not increase in a linear fashion, most likely in an exponential fashion to a global maximum. Perhaps human are close to that global maximum in terms of intelligence ...

I agree that one's ability to do maths can often reflect that person's understanding of logic. However, that said why should someone need to have passed maths at all if they wanted to have a degree in a certain field of the Arts or Humanities. Obviously, you'd need a good grasp of maths if you wanted to do something in the field of Science, technology or Engineering so the requirement for maths should in no way be lowered for those areas.

The human animal is an incredible piece of machinery. The brain is just magical in it's processing ability. We're all the same machine so I just don't buy the most people are stupid argument because that would mean we're all stupid.

These people have just been lured into filling their amazing brains full of pointless trivial nonsense. They've bought into it hook line and sinker so are in no mood to go changing a successful method of survival in the modern world.

If you want to change that destroy the media.

I see what you are saying and we agree to some degree. However it is dumbing down education if a fail grade is good enough. It is just the principle and the message it sends out, don't worry if you get an E in maths, it doesn't matter.
I would guess only a small percentage of people fail maths.

I would say some people's machines are top of the range, others are like models years out of date with a hard drive that doesn't collect information in a proper manner so it can be accessed when required.
This is why some have a below average IQ, most are average IQ and the rest have an above average IQ.

I think the OP used the correct language when they used intelligent instead of stupid.

Well it depends on what level of maths. The failure rate is much higher for HL maths than OL maths.
