Does anyone know what type of first aid class would be required for applying for the new garda recruitment drive in 2010. I know its not definate yet if you will need one to apply but i'd like to do one anyway. Would it need to be one certified by any particular body such as the hse or anything like that?

What type of computer course do you think would be required?

As you said its not definate, I'm sure everything will be on publicjobs.ie or on garda.ie as soon as the campaign gets up and running.

    From publicjobs

A Garda Trainee recruitment campaign will commence in the coming weeks. Further information in this regard, including eligibility requirements, the selection process and application form will be available at that stage. In the meantime, to ensure you receive an e-mail alert inviting you to apply, you should register on www.publicjobs.ie.

the course would have to be recoginsed by PHECC and Fetac so your best bet would be st johns amublance or the irish red cross contact either and they will point you in the right directon

Would "FETAC Occupation First Aid" be relevant so?

I did that course, really informative and I'd say its exactly what they would be looking for tbh. The "Occupational" in the title is a bit misleading, that course is very focused on First Aid in general, and heartsaver AED AND CPR.

When I was a student we were trained up as Occupational First Aiders with a big emphasis on using the AED and performing CPR so it makes sense that they would want new trainees trained to the same standard. It's anyones guess as to whether or not they require a FETAC qualification but once you're certified to use an AED and perform CPR then I'd imagine that would cover it.

they would have to give people notice before they put in new requirements. They were only recommendations and have not been pasted so first aid etc are not required however they prob would look good in an interview

Don't worry, when the recruitment opens for applicants, it will be posted everywhere: papers/online-publicjobs & facebook etc. Also, this site here will spring back to full-life, buzzing again like the good auld days :)

I am hoping to apply for AGS I have 2 law based degrees, and will be doing a masters in law in september, do you think this will help me?

I think this should be added to the FAQ.

It may OR may not help you. It depends what you're like as a person. I know plenty of people with degrees, who have the personality of a ham sandwich. On the other hand, I know people with not a 3rd level cert to their name, but have great aptitude for the job, and walked through the interview straight into the college.

Your IQ could be off the chart, but if you can't talk to people, you don't stand a chance of getting in.

Statutory Instrument 509 of 2006, Garda Síochána (Admissions and Appointments) (Amendment) Regulation 2006, allows the Public Appointments Service to give due recognition to any satisfactory service by the person as a reserve member of the Garda Síochána.

    And your point is????????
You just hoping this means something and someone might be able to tell you or are you trying to make a point?

Yeah I'm equally as puzzled about this post. Are you asking us something or telling us something?

it sounds like legislation which allows them to move garda reserves further up the list when it comes to position on the panel for the next intake. this is something i've heard a few times from a friend who works in the public appointments office.

You still have to go through the EXACT same process as everyone else. Of course they will gove recognition....same recognition as that of a person who volunteers with RNLI, CG, OMAC, CD, Fire service etc etc etc!!

Just a post for those reserve Gardai who are applying and were wondering if their service will stand to them. If youre not in the reserves the post can be ignored.

I see what you mean, but boards doesn't work that way. Us moderators have to read every post in every forum we mod, and question what is posted to maintain clarity in the forum, and a certain amount of simplicity in threads.

Thanks for clearing that up for us.

The Review Group recommends the following pre-selection requirements:
    a) certification of ability to swim
    b) certification in first aid
    c) certification in manual handling
    d) holder of a full Irish driving licence
    e) certified holder of a European computer driving licence (ECDL) (or higher
    information technology certification)
    f) have a minimum of 140 CAO points.

Thats a big a*s document to download if you are just curious.

I think the certificate to swim is a bit much it would be easier to simply require applicants to perform a few hundred metre swim in the physical.

its all about the Operational Development Faculty ?? am i missing something

to give them a chance to get these requirements if they will be implemented

well if they become requirements then you will have to have them theres no in between, id imagine these skills would be a must for someone to be a garda

Well I would consider between now and the next recruitment drive ample time.

However if you dont have 140 CAO pionts I reckon thats a bit harsh. That said I dont know how hard 140 CAO points is to get?

They wont give anybody time. If they are brought in, you either have them or you don't.

well that is true, safest bet is to get them as soon as can, if anyway serious about being a garda , , 140 cao points roughly works out at

    PointsCalculator_258534a.jpg

points are choosen out of best 6 subjects, dont know what way it works for people who did leaving a few years ago but thats the jist of it now a day...
