Disadvantages of no carb days??

    Hi All,

I currently just have carbs for breakfast in the form of porridge and I find that I am full for the rest of the day without touching another carb and feel far better because of it but I'd like to change my brekkie to something egg based without having to change my lunch & dinner which usually consist of veg/salad & smoked salmon/chicken/eggs so what I was wondering is are there any disadvantages to not having any carbs daily over a prolonged period?

Many thanks and apologies if this has been done before but when I searched it I got a million responses and didn't know where to begin!! :)

Why would you have no carbs? Even atkins isn't no carbs. You should be eating about 5 times the amount of vegetables on a low carb diet than you usually do. You'll feel awful if you don't and a little bit of salad with dinner won't cut it.

Beware the switch into ketosis suppresses the immune system temporarily so you might feel flu-ish for a day or two.

    Best of luck!

When I do not have veggies which is the carbs that I eat other than porridge I feel awful for the day. Have only learned that recently the hard way!

Oh ok so veg are carbs - sorry I'm a bit dim when it comes to nutrition :o
What I meant was at the moment I feel great by eating porridge with berries for brekkie, then salad or veg (but usually salad) with smoked salmon/chicken or some other form of non red meat (cos I'm not a fan of red meat) or fish for both my lunch and dinner. I don't want to change my diet too much as I like it and I feel good but I would like to substitute porridge for eggs and I was just wondering if that'd be ok as I won't be having any bread/pasta/rice/potatoes or other obvious (to me anyway) carbs during the day.

    thanks for your replies :)

If you feel great then keep the porridge, don't fix what is not broken.

Thanks, you're right of course Dave, but I'd like a bit of variety too! especially for summertime. I should also have said that while I started out trying to lose weight I'm happy with how I look now so I'm not bothered if I lose more or not, I just wanted to know if I didn't have any 'big' carbs in my routine food would it be ok? or would it cause me to gain when I return to porridge again ?

Just read the back of packets, if it is fresh veg look in the frozen section as values will be on them. Tesco sometimes have values on fresh fruit & veg.

Carrots are 5% sugar, skimmed milk is too the same as full sugar lilt!

    Tomato puree is 18% sugar!
