Do you mind me asking did you get your preliminary results from Fetac or the College you did the course in? Im asking because I havn't recieved any results yet.... I have applied through the CAO and I have been told that Fetac will send the results directly to Fetac for the 0 and 1st round offers... as far as im aware the Fetac will issue the results to Ucas who will inform the college accordingly when offers are made but i'm not 100% certain so I would advice you to confirm with Ucas! :D;)

I found out my results from the college, it's highly unlikely they'll change I was told.
Fetac is not listed on the UCAS website as a direct correspondent, unlike the Leaving Cert.

You send them to the college, they deal with UCAS after receiving your results. Double check with the college yourself but I always dealt directly with the colleges I was applying to.

When do these results come out? I did pre nursing studies and have applied through the CAO, is there a waiting time between getting these results and getting offers???

They usually come out in August. FETAC release results twice a year, from memory, it's around the same time as the LC results.

    Hi Guys,

Just wondering if anybody can tell me when the results for this years FETAC courses are out?

I have been told by my PLC college firstly the results would be released the same day of the leaving cert results (August)

I was then told just before I finished up my FETAC course that the results would be out the first week in july?

I have been searching the FETAC website and cannot find it anywhere?

    Cheers

FETAC results will be released in July and as posters indicated they are sent straight to the CAO. Some colleges/FETAC centres may issue provisional results to students, these are based on results submitted for external examination but these can and do change. Best of luck everyone

So do we get the results in Mid July when they send them out to the CAO then?! I'm confused. When will we know how many Distinctions we get?

Schools and Colleges can access them online in July. However schools and colleges are generally closed in July so realistically you will be waiting until August. The college where you attended your course will have your results and certificate and it will tell you how many distinctions/merits/passes you got and in which subjects.

The majority of the queries here relate to assessment for May/June. FETAC have a number of assessment times during the year and usually the numbers at other times are considerably lower so have some patience with your centre or FETAC if you are trying to contact them. I dont work for FETAC but I do know the amount of queries they have to deal with.

Once you hand up your work it is corrected by your teacher and then internally within the centre (whether that is a public or private centre) it may be checked again (verified) by a another teacher of the same module or a senior manager or it is discussed with other teachers within the course at exam or course meetings.

At this stage provisional results are then entered on the FETAC system by the centre co-ordinator but do remember that these can and do change more often than most people think. The centre then appoints an External Authenticator EA or External Examiner EE – there are some differences to their role but that isn’t relevant here.

At this stage some centres will give you a letter for potential employers or other organisations. But this is only the centre assisting you, not official requirement of the centre.

Once the EA or EE checks the work the results are confirmed on the FETAC system – changed from provisional to confirmed. They are then issued by FETAC to the centres in mid to late July. At the same time the results with your PPS number as your exam number is also sent to the CAO. Generally there is no need for the students or the centre to send the results to the CAO. Some CAO offers are made before Round 1 in Round Zero and some are made at the same time depending on which links system you are entitled to use. This is only for FETAC results and not any other qualification.

Once the results arrive in the centre in late July they are then sent to the students. There are thousands of thousands of results ranging from students who are doing one subject or module (minor or component award) to those doing a full award (Major Award – at least 8 modules). The centres work as quickly as possible and get them out – they must deal with anything up to 10,000 pieces of paper and ensure that each student gets the correct results – it is not like the Leaving Certificate where there might be 100 students sitting the exam in the school. The fact that your college is closed for the summer doesn’t mean that the administration staff are off, just the teaching staff.

One piece of advice – if you have an issue or query with your FETAC results put it in writing to the centre as telephone calls etc are only verbal accounts of your problem, always attach a copy of your results and any other documentation.

    Finally best of luck.

Thank you for all the information Further Ed.

But it still seizes to amaze me how each PLC college has given different dates for the results to be issued to their students by post.

I was told the first week of July. And others have been told, mid July, late July and August.

Frankly its a mess for students as some are expectant of results around certain times. If the colleges did not know or were unsure as to a timeline of results they shouldnt have informed students of dates.

Those eager students are left hounding their postman each morning!

And as for FETAC I am sure they are being bombarded with phonecalls and emails from students, because some students have finished their exams as early as the start of may, which leaves two months for FETAC to confirm provisional results. And in relation to the leaving cert result time line. The LC finishes mid-late July and the results are issued in mid August and last year around 115,000 students sat the LC, that is an awful lot of results to issue so FETAC should step up and issue a timeline on their website!

But that still comes down to colleges being closed for the summer. It depends when someone will be in the school/college to post them out.

There is a definite timeline - it's just not available to students. Students entered for May/June assessment as you said did their exams in May. The external examiner comes to the centre before the start of June and verifies the results, they are then entered as verified in the PLC Centre. When the Co-ordinator signs off on them it says when the results are available to the centre online. I believe it's this week as it happens. But as I said schools are closed in July so unless a principal decides they are going in to download and post out results, they are left until the end of July/August. On the other hand I know that the local Youthreach centre operates differently and the co-ordinator is working there in July so he is available to issue results.

It can't be compared with the Leaving Cert, because it's a totally different system

The conflicting dates coming from colleges and PLC centres seems to be as a result of comments from individuals and not an official college communication. Many of these people are going on what happened in previous years and still assume that the old system is still in use. Individual results can’t be confirmed when and as they happen as the entire FETAC file for the May/June assessment must be completed at the same time so pressing the button early just because the assessment was completed at different times isn’t possible.
There is also a dual process of External Examining and External Authentication happening. Remember exams aren’t the only part of the assessment process and if your centre operates course meetings and exam boards etc then these are part of the process as is the visit of the External Examiner or Authenticator.
What everyone seems to forget is that the PLCE sector is only a part of the FETAC family centres – other centres include Teagasc and FAS and private providers and externing/authenticating continued into June in the centres and didn’t just finish when the PLC centres closed up. There is a large number of FETAC providers outside what most LC students perceive as a traditional FETAC centre.
It is correct to state that FETAC will be confirming the results this week and then they are available to centres – but when they are sent to the centres remember they need to be printed off etc and if the centre is a large centre with a couple of hundred students or one of the very large centres with over a thousand students then it is important to allow a day or two to get them ready for posting by checking the results correspond with the results confirmed with FETAC and that names and PPSN are correct so it will be a day or so after the centre receives them that they will enter the post and then allow for the postal system delivery system. Some of the larger centres are planning to have them available online for students but this wont happen this year. This would be a better system if all centres adopted it but many may not have the resources.
Re FETAC centres been closed for the summer – this is not true of all centres – academic staff may be off for the summer but the vast majority of the dedicated PLC colleges are operationally with summer schools and part-time courses etc running. Then there are the private centres as well. There is usually some administration staff present in the large colleges with one senior manager available as well. However with the public sector embargo there has been a reduction in administrative staff so this will impact on the issuing of results. The smaller centres i.e. a secondary school with a PLC course may be closed and students attending these may have to wait til the centre is open again for the issuing of the Leaving Cert results. So it really depends on where you did your FETAC course as to how quickly you get them.
Finally agree that it would have been better if FETAC had posted the timeline on their website. But the bottom line is nothing will happen til the CAO makes their offers so having the results a day earlier than your friends will not mean you will get your offer quicker.
By the way Roxy1238 the LC finishes mid/late June not July.It takes two months for the results to issue while the FETAC assessment periods finishes in mid-June and the results are ready in mid-July.

I am doing a VTOS course in art multi media and i have got my preliminery results from the college.......they wont change cause we had an asessor in from Fetac. I did 8 subs and got 8 distinctions but 5 of these were at level 5. If i get 3 more distinctions next year obviously dats 8....does this mean 400 points towards the course? I hope to go to art college in Limerick sept 2011. Anyone know what its like there? Read comments bout LIT in general and its not 2 sweet lol!

    Thanks ;)

Hi Delboy, is your course at Level 5 ? it's only Levels 5 or 6 that are acceptable for college entry. Double check with LIT as to whether they need all the results in one year, some colleges have different entry requirements and require certain modules etc. You may not need 8 distinctions to get onto the course.

After next year FETAC are introducing a new system of credits and this will impact on the progression routes.

    .

Thanks for reply. I didnt even know this was a 2yr course when i started but it is. Yeah we done some subjects at level 4 and some at level 5. As i am doing art, i did drawing and painting at level 4 this yr and level 5 next yr so i understand 1 wud have to have def those 2 subjects :-)
I must admit i never heard bout having it all done in one year but i understand how some colleges may want that. I will get in touch wit LCAD in sept when they are back as i also wud like a look around the college. Its big decision for me as im now 30.

    Thanks

It means you didn't get a full certificate, ie you didn't get 8 modules to make up a full certificate or if you did more than 8 modules you didn't get one of the compulsory components needed for the certificate you had entered for. How many modules do you have?

This is the link from the FETAC page for the Tourism Cert. I assume this is the one you are doing. Check the four compulsory modules at the top, then check if you have three from the longer list and then any other one will make up the 8. If you meet all those requirements get on to the college and ask about your cert.

Hey Rainbow, ok ive checked the list, and i have the 4 compulsory ones and off the longer list i only have French, Tourism and Travel services and Reception? There's no mention on the list of Audio Transcription, Information and Admin or Text Production?

That sounds fine to me. You have to have the 4 compulsories, 3 off the longer list, which you do and the final module to make up your 8 can be any FETAC module, either from that list or elsewhere, including the three you mentioned. So you have all the components for the Tourism Certificate. If you got any other paperwork from your college check anywhere to see if you were awarded such and if not get on to the college because you have met all the requirements from what you have said here.

If you were not entered for the correct award, then you will only get a component cert.

    Got my results today,

    Only got a "Component Certificate"

Had two subjects withdrawn due to missing deadlines through sickness which left me with 7 completed.

Is it possible to qualify for a level 7 course in an I.T. with this?

Is it possible to do just the modules I missed to complete my cert?

EDIT: Might be worthwhile mentioning I Did not do Leaving Cert.

Were you doing level 5 or level 6? You will not get into level 7 with a level 5 cert, but if your passes were good enough you might get into level 7 from level 6. Only the third level institution can tell you what their policy is.

I was doing Level 5, Looking to get into this course http://courses.itsligo.ie/business-humanities-courses/computing/bsc-computing-in-systems-and-networking-sg-137/

I know having a full cert would be enough to qualify but I'm not sure with one module short.

Where the hell are the results? why can't they give some decent information?

I haven't applied to the CAO because I'm going on from fetac level 5 Childcare to level 6 childcare/Special Needs so how will i get my results?

Do they come by post? and anyone know when i can expect them? I done them in May at CCOC

Edit: Just got word College of Com childcare results being sent out Fri 16th

I had 9 courses, didn't pass Business but had 4 Distinctions, 2 Merit and 2 Pass (Communication is a Distinction and VPrep a Merit).
It only says that I achieved my Award for Media Productions.
Applied for IADT, that means I'll get 310 out of my PLC Course and I got 420 for my Portfolio.
Gonna see where it takes me, but I think it will not be enough.

Just got a component certificate : 3 distinctions , 4 merits and an unsuccessful in childcare level 5. What does this mean? does it mean ive failed the whole thing and have to re-do it all? Or can i possibly go on to level 6 ?

You can appeal you know, with merits and distinctions there must have been something strange going on to fail one. Did you expect to fail it, was there a reason? If you were expecting to pass you should consider appealing.
