I don't think coors are importing it directly. One of their reps was in our place a few weeks ago. I didn't see it in his brochure.

Isn't it incredibly difficult to import booze from Canada? Even driving to the next province with some in the car isn't allowed in some places. The exception to this being the duty free of course.

They had this in the Woolshed on Parnell St for Canada day, in 330ml cans, maybe check it out and ask where they get it from.

If it's being launched here it would be Molson Coors Ireland that would be bringing it in.

Did the tour of the steam whistle brewery when I was in Toronto and was surprised how short a shelf life it has , can't remember exactly but i think it was a couple of months max

More likely a best before date rather then a 'this will kill you after' date. Especially as it's in a green bottle.

Beers shelf life is greatly reduced when they don't add preservatives.

Doheny and Nesbitts on Baggot Street got it a couple weeks ago. Priced the same as a Heineken. I quite like it.

There were three Molson Canadian mini-jeeps outside Café en Seine on Monday evening. I thought that said enough about the product.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,584 ✭✭✭✭Creamy Goodness

Friend of mine posted on Instagram that he was enjoying a westy XII.

In jumped their social media team asking had he tried the Canadian.

You can't just mention both in the same conversation :).

Yet to try it myself but the signs aren't looking great to be fair.

Was in the Clarendon bar off Chatham Street, Dublin yesterday for some grub and they have it in the upstairs bar (draught). Didn't try it though as I had college last night.

Will try it at some stage though

Dying to get one now that it's been launched here, lived on the stuff when I lived in Canada. It'll be a long while before I'm near any of the places that stock it, will have to plan a trip! :)

Is it being "brewed under licence"? I hate that term.

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 11,975 Mod ✭✭✭✭BeerNut

It's brewed in the UK, but it doesn't really count as under licence since the same company owns the brand and the brewery.

I'm a bit surprised the ads don't have "brewed in the UK" on them (that I've noticed) since the branding associates the product so much with Canada and advertising rules say the true country of origin must be given if a different one is even suggested.

It is curious as their branding does say "From our Land to yours". I'm sure they didn't mean England to Ireland. :D

Just tried a can of it there. It's very fizzy, not much flavour in it at all. Two sips and it went down the kitchen sink.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 408 ✭✭lamoss

I saw it in the local centra today, I will try it out tomorrow. If it is 4.3 % or under then I wont expect much from it.

was in my local and they had 2 new molson taps installed. its getting a huge push according to my barman. im gonna try it.

Molson Canadian is fine but there is better to be got

Is Moosehead still in any pubs (by the bottle)?

Also, if anyone started importing Alexander Keiths IPA then we'd have a real canadian beer !

There's almost no difference between Keith's IPA and a bland lager

I told a Canadian friend about this when the big centre spread ad featured in Metro a little while back. She laughed and said it is mostly drunk by students there (with all due respect to any students here on the forum!).

I'll give it a go anyway (on draught) if I see it in a pub; always interested in something new.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 344 ✭✭srfc d16

I tried it over the weekend and I wasn't too keen on it. Tasted similar to Bud to me

As a student I take no offence whatsoever. Give me one of franciscan wells beers any day!
This stuff is just a fail if an imitation of bud!
It's getting some push at the moment. You'd think they'd put the same effort into pushing the well, blue moon etc as this crap!

Hopefully the well can up its production soon as planned!

I was talking to an Molson-Coors rep a few weeks ago and they said the plan was to push the stuff they have big production capabilities of right now so Bluemoon and Canadian are getting the guts of the marketing budget, but once Fran Well move to their new brew house he reckons that the company will be making a big effort to push Rebel Red and Shandon Stout and that Shandon Export will be marketed heavily in the US and Canada.

    I hope that happens.

What other drinks are they behind?

For the record, I think it's piss poor form by Beoir to remove the FW stuff from their app, extremely short sighted and petty.

Not at all. It's entirely objective. Beoir raises awareness of small breweries as defined by legislation in Ireland.

Well, Fran Well are still a micro brewery, they haven't moved to their new place yet.

But I dunno how I feel about it to be honest.

Fran Well are about to be the subject of a multimillion pound marketing campaign in Ireland and the UK, funded by their owners, one of the biggest macro conglomerates in the world. They don't need beoir and to be honest, continuing to use Beoir's time and effort to promote them is a bit silly, they are beyond that now. Even if Shane is still running the show, they have surpassed, or will very soon, what beoir can do for them.

had a pint of this when i went for dinner in the local. wasn't expecting anything, regular punters will lap it up though as it's pretty much like budweiser but perhaps cheaper.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,989 ✭✭✭✭Giblet

Worst beer I've tasted in a while, one of my mates suggested it, he likes his Hardcore IPA so I was expecting something good, tasted like nothing. Absolute pisswater.

With the correct marketing it will probably sell well so. Look at Coors Water, I mean Light

The funniest part of Molson's advertising campaign for the Canadian brand is their catchphrase "from our land to yours"! And there's a picture of snow covered mountains and pine trees - I must have missed these the last time I passed through Burton on Trent in the train :D

Regarding Labatts, C&C bought out InBev's beer division in Ireland around 2009. They discontinued Labatt Ice in favour of promoting InBev's premium brands such as Tennents and Stella. That would be the same Tennents that offies/pubs couldn't even give away!

Molson tastes much nicer here in Canada than the Molson they have launched back in Ireland. Its probably cos its brewed somewhere else.

Only here a month and its my choice of beer here, its fairly popular here and it seems to get me alot drunker than other beers which also helps!

It's not meant to be an exquisite, quality beer in Canada either though. You can do better.

Its fine for me, it does the job and its only $3 a can in our local during the playoffs ;-)

I had it in Canada last September and thought it was terrible.

The alcohol percentage in canada is 6. something i think compared to 4% here

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,180 ✭✭✭hfallada

Had it last weekend from bottles and thought it was flavourless. Like the Eastern European beer for a €1 a can is more pleasant than it

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,860 ✭✭✭Ape Lincoln

Tried a sup of this recently. Did nothing for me. I'd imagine it will disappear soon enough. It was >€5 iirc.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 676 ✭✭✭Dietsquirt

Bland and Tasteless, if Coors and Bud got drunk one night, their love-child would be called Molson.

    Zywiec - now there's a nice beer

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 408 ✭✭lamoss

Tried it on tap last week; good colour and head, came up in a nice glass, but was let down by lack of flavour and watery overall taste.

If they brewed it a bit stronger it would have given Bud, carlesburg and the rest a bit of serious competition. A lost chance IMO. :o

I tried this bottled and thought it was quite nice, have yet to try it draught though.
