Effects of smoking on weightlifting

Been lifting weights the past year or so. Do usual deadlift, squat, bench press and other stuff split over 2-3 days a week. Usually start with 12 reps on an excersise, then 10 at a higher weight, then 8 at higher again if i can manage it. No cardio.

Thing is I'm a medium to heavy smoker 10-20 per day. However got some medication to quit so I'll be stopping in 10 days time(you continue to smoke at the beginning)

I'm just wondering what improvements I can expect. Does the reduced oxygen from smoking stunt muscle growth? or will I just be able to keep going for longer in the gym, maybe do more intense workouts?

Or does it have no effect at all on resistance training?

    Insight/experience appreciated.

Course it'll slow you down..resistance training involves a lot of breathing(obvioulsy) and the less effectively you can utilize your oxygen supply the less effectively oxygen can reach your muscles.
