I did a search about a year ago and couldn't find one.

    Will they ever exist?

Mad Benny, I wouldn't invest in a combi box just yet until the Saorview service is fully launched for DTT as they may be changing to the MPEG4 T2 spec and then your box wouldn't work for Irish DTT.

The DVB-T2 reports where down to a typo in a press release earlier today, this was confirmed to me by Eamonn Ryans department. Also confirmed albeit in an email that DVB-T/Mpeg-4 will be the Saorview standard. See - http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=66220487&postcount=1724

All that said it wouldn't hurt to wait for an official receiver to be confirmed with the final standards nailed down so to speak.

a DTT and freesat (tho presume cracked) receiver recorder will be the business.

True, but it wouldn't surprise me if they changed to the different spec again after the official launch in a year or two after the on going saga that has occured up until now.

I've got 3 HTPC all running HD smooth and clear. Spec's on my main pc under the TV are ;-
Windows XP pro on GA-MA78GM-S2H M/B's
    4gig of ram PC2-6400
    LG GGC-H20L BluRay/HD-DVD rom ,
2 Terratec Cinergy DVB-S2, my S2 cards are only required for C4HD using S*y FTV card any DVB-S cards will get ITV1 HD and BBC-HD
TerraTec Cinergy 2400i DT for DTT.
6.5 TB of storage (nearly full):D
    Smargo plus reader.
    Athlon X4 630

Mediaportal 1.0.2 stable release with modded TS writer by Dj Blu for the 7 day epg pulled directly from the DVB source. StreamMP skin .

For the OP , this looks good for a combo with some software modding it should get 7 day EPG on Sat and DTT - http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055872518

Actually watched about 70%. It's mainly full HD Blu Ray & HD-DVD movie only rips averaging at about 22GB each around the 260 of them. I'm to lazy to put a disc in a drive :)

I also have 6.0 usable TB storage in an esata disk storage array using RAID5 for data protaction

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B001H54JX6/ref=oss_product

Have another 1.5tb in the HTPC (for live recording)

I use Windows Media Centre 7 with Pinnacle Dual DVB-S and Terratec Cinergy DVB-T cards. Triple recording and almost full dual EPG.

The MyMovies plugin for movies is amazing.

Thanks jobyrne30. How much did the Media PC set you back? Is it big?

I've struggled with Mediaportal as it frequently "loses" my DVB-S2 cards, however I've really succeeded with DVBViewer and get great results from it albeit after a helluva lot of tweaking.

For H.264 I use the Overlay option for rendering and the CoreAVC codec. For MPEG2 on satellite I use EVR for rendering and Elecard for 4:2:2 video and the Cyberlink PowerDVD 9 codec.

With this combination I get really smooth set top box quality SD & HD video on satellite. There are a number of plugins available for EPG gathering etc.

Tying DVBViewer into the Windows timers allows scheduled recordings as well. The one thing missing is MHEG-5 text functionality but there is a tool on the way from DVBViewer to support that.

The HTPC has this case - http://www.silverstonetek.com/products/p_spec.php?pno=gd02&area=usa, it's exact size it there. From what i recall it's footprint is a little bigger than the Sky HD box it replaced but not too much .

Actual cost - well it's hard to say exactly as I built it up adding and changing component to the latest and greatest so to speak, it's not cheap the 3 x 2TB drive would cost roughly 450 euro at a retailer but I got mine cheap :). I've also got all that data backed-up on separate drives again another 6TB of drives. Mine's got all the bells and whistles which are not needed for what you need.

If your not bothered about storage, DVB-S2 and have got a decent dual core pc (a quiet one) 2GB of ram ideally with a hdmi output and with a spare PCI slot you can get the excellent pinnacle 7010ix quad tuner on ebay.de for 39 Euro but delivery is a whopping 30 Euro. Overall it's worth it:- http://cgi.ebay.ie/TV-Tuner-Pinnacle-PC-TV-7010iX-DVB-T-DVB-S-Analog-TV-/360266083906?cmd=ViewItem&pt=DE_Technik_Computerzubeh%C3%B6r_Multimedia&hash=item53e1882e42 .

DVBviewer is another good software, I just don't like paying for it :)

Mediaportal does have issues with some DVB card especially Hauppauge ones, they take a while to initialise when the PC starts up. In Media Portal's TVserver configuration menu under the general tab setting the time delay to 30 seconds helps to solve those problems.

Windows 7 seem to be the excellent too but I've not tried it.

For €15 DVBViewer's hardly an expense, not compared to how much Windows 7 costs!

I personally have found it far more rock solid than Mediaportal but then again no two HTPCs are the same really.

Thanks I didn't know it had gone that cheap , it's been a while since I looked at it. I very happy with MP, rock solid for me so I never really looked around once I got it up and running.

I mentioned Windows 7 in the event it was the OP's OS, if he wanted to go down the HTPC route it an excellent OS for it.

They wont. The spec is published. Lot of poor information on certain parts of the TV boards lately that is misleading and in many cases just wrong.

Its DVB-T for us via MPEG4 and MHEG5. Capacity problems (that the UK are pursuing via DVB-T2 for space saving) are not going to be Irelands problem when you consider that we will probably have 1 PSB mux for the forseeable future.
