Jogging - First experience

I have never been jogging before in life, but today something possessed me to go for a jog. I have no clue why, but for some reason I really wanted to. I turned on my iPod with my new earphones that I ordered from eBay so they would stop falling out of my ears. I walked out of my estate and began jogging down towards a nearby park.

I lasted for maybe 5 mins before my legs started to feel weak and my head started pounding.. I honestly thought I would be able to last longer than that :( Then the earphones that I thought would solve the problem of constantly falling out, began falling out.. I had just reached the gate of the park at this stage so not a great start.. I could have pushed myself to continue but this was more of a test run than anything else :o I walked a bit, then jogged on towards the bridge but at that stage I had enough. Began the slow walk home on wobbly legs.

When i got home I was literally covered in sweat from head to toe. I had beads of sweat dripping from my forehead. Overall, not a great first experience. :o

Today i woke up. Then i got out of bed. I said hello to my cat. Then my friend came. His name is Robert. We went to the gymnasium. I had a great time. I lifted things. Then i went home and drank milk. I like milk. I had a bun too. It was sweet. But some cream fell on the ground. This mad me sad. I ate it anyway. I liked my day so far. Later i'm going to bed.

This has happened to me a few times so I've learned from my mistakes, now I only eat cream buns in front of my cat who will clean up any cream that falls on to the ground or I eat them naked in the bath tub. I like beans.

Make sure you stretch before you start any exercise take 5 minutes and stretch your legs, arms, back, everywhere!

You need to build up your stamina before you can expect to jog for any period of time, go for walks a half hour then build it up to an hour, then start walking faster, time yourself.

Once you get that far build in a jog into your walking routine, pick up the pace to a jog for ten minutes then bring it back town to a fast walk, if you feel up for it jog again then walk if you begin to tire.

The burning in your legs is a build up of lactic acid in your muscles caused by them not getting enough oxegen when your exercising, for someone who isnt used to strenous exercise its to be expected, even athelets experience it.

Its important once youve finished exercising to stretch again for a few minutes it helps with the lactic acid build up in the muscles so it wont be as severe.

You cant expect your body to be able to run or jog without training it to be able to, thats why it didnt go so well, these people you see jogging with earphones and all the gear have put in a lot of prep and hard work and sweat to be able to it, just work at it take the time and start off slowly youll get there eventually.

....and then you try and beat your times and it gets harder again.

Stick with it op. Youve got to get your body used to this stuff. Run a little, walk a little.. repeat... Youll surprise yourself in a few weeks.

I had almost the exact same experience when I started. If you follow C25K & stay at it, it works. I can run about 30 mins without stopping now & it would have been impossible before doing the program. I wasn't even able to do 5 mins when I started.

Make sure you've decent runners & run on tarmac, bike paths & the like (to preserve your knees)

Also you'll figure out the headphones stuff on the next run I'd say, it's trial & error getting the right kit together

OP you have nothing to be ashamed about. Fair play to you its start.

I started jogging last year I was quite heavy still and it helped me loose bit weight. But after September did not bother and just hit gym.

Now at start of April I decided to go jogging again for summer. I started off slowly doing about 3-4k for first few runs and then from there up it each week.

Now I jog about 8-10k a week which about 7k withough stopping. Trust me with little time and looking after what you eat you be fit in no time.

And dont worry about sweating in this wetaher we all be sweating. O but its important to stretch for 10-15 minutes before you run and 10-15 minutes after you run. Trust me you wont feel pain as much next day, worth it.

Any specific stretching routine I should follow? Or just do some random stretches? :P

    What?

I imagine he means to run on tarmac instead of concrete. As there is slightly more give in tarmac.
He obviously failed to mention that grass is way way way better than tarmac

Yes I meant running on tarmac & bike paths is much better than concrete paths as they are not as hard. I don't like running on grass unless you have a really even stretch. Sometimes grassy areas can be lumpy & uneven & you risk twisting your ankle a bit (in my experience anyway)

True grass can be quite uneven, and I can guarantee it will be where I will be running. I will mainly be on a woodland path area once I can get past 5 minutes
