Power tripping Bouncers

Gotta hate them.

Really, it's just the occasional bad apple that spoils the reputation for bouncers in general I think, cause what I find is that most of them are okay - but there's always the occasional one, and he has to act like a bitch on hormones.

WTF!
Stay home, get a playboy or rent a blue movie, get a hooker if needs be.
They should just relieve their sexual frustration and stop making a nuisance out of themselves.

monthly bouncer generalisation threads are very general.

If the people they had to deal with all the time were not so sh1tfaced drunk and thinking they're bullet proof, perhaps someof them would be more tolerant.

Having worked on doors for some years, i can safely say its a tough job, not for the odd physical routine required in removing a roudy chappy, more because of the amount of shyte you have to listen to

I got turned away from a club last week, full of people outside. I turned to my friend, I said, "Look how they made me look. Like a bum, like a mammalucco."

Sure a man who can go toe to toe with Sugar Ray Robinson should have no problem with a few bouncers?!!

With respect, people have to listen to shyte in one form or another in their daily job. It doesn't entitle us to go power tripping.

I got turned away last week for a club a street away from me.
It had a its new indie night on, usually busy place.

Walk up to the door, dressed real good, but not like an indie kid. They guys with the door name clip board lean over to the bouncers and whisper "its a private function"

I nicely told him that its not a private function, I know whats on inside and I'm going on in to see someone. Bouncer steps to one side and allows me in.

Its not always the bouncers that stop you. Management often impose certain rules, dress codes and standards. They have to adhere to them.

Don't look at blaming the bouncers all of them time, look above them.
But saying that, some but not all bouncers can have a short temper. But if you were dealing with drunk people for 9hrs a night, you would grow tired of it after a while too.

Don't cause a fuss, accept it and move to the next place, or ask to speak to a manger. But DO NOT stand right beside the door waiting for the manager. That doesn't help matters.

Never had much patience for people bitching about boucers. Most clubs bouncers are told by managment who to let in , who not through an earpiece, while the management watches the cctv.

I stand by the door and tell the bouncers, or tell the customer.
Easier.

Thats normally more common in big city clubs, in the local clubs, the manager / owner wants to remain Mr Nice Guy, so he generally doesnt directly involve himself with decisions infront of customers, when he gets a call the next day from little timmy next door's step sisters friend's uncle that got thrown out for trying to start a fight, the answer is simple.. "oh thats terrible, im sorry - the security is done privately, i cant get involved"

In my opinion this advice should serve you well.......

No.1 Make sure you drink lots before hand, you will enjoy night-club much better.

No.2 Bouncers have a grest sense of humour and like being playfully slapped, thats why they work as boucers. They particularly find it hilarious if you refer to their size, dress sense, intellect and their nationality in a ribbing way.

No.3 Normally night-clubs are not too fussy about your attire, however, I would advise you to wear.....white Pennys trainers, white track-suit bottoms topped of with matching white top and baseball cap. Add some flamboyant gold jewelery to guarantee entry.

Some bouncers are not so nice, most are sound, but you have to understand their job. I have seen bouncers getting bet, bit and abused for not letting people in for various reasonable reasons.

Don't tar them all with the same brush op ;)

Don't understand why people can't just move on to another club if you get refused tbh, there's plenty in Dublin. And if you're friends are inside they will come back out and go to the next place with you if they are really you're friends.

Listen mate, you can give out about bouncers all you want, but the truth of the matter is that if you had to deal with scumbags for lets say, 5 or 6 hours, then you'd be a bit sarky as well.

I have never been a bouncer, but I have worked in a bar, and as security at a music festival, and the amount of people who think they can take the piss and act the bollocks is unbelievable, and since you can't hit people, even if you'd like to, you just need to deal with them verbally, however sharp it is.

I remember one guy one night, and i could have ripped him an new one the way he was talking to me

I understand what you're saying, but just my point is, if you've got some little bollocks trying it on, and you're after having to go through hours of it, you're not always going to have a level head.

That job was part time, and considering they put me as head of security of that particular section, I was fairly well suited to it. Some of the others though, working below me, particularly the lads, could NOT keep themselves in check whatsoever.

Yeah I can understand what your saying my man, but say you have a situation where its the start of a night, and a quiet night.
A bouncer is approached by a perfectly normal, sober and respectful individual and feels the need to assert himself for reasons that seem to me more relative to male dominance.

Bouncers can oftentimes, due to the position of power they're in as such, indulge in this.
It's certainly not the first time it's happened, and I've seen it happen alot also.

My point is, if your put in a position of responsibility (and I'm not referring specifically to you here mate), act with the responsibility and maturity that the position demands, or really, let someone who can, take over the job.

Too many bouncers using their position to inflate their own ego. Do the job, be a good chap, collect your check and leave it at that.

• Lots of bouncers are just total scum. I've been picked on several times for absolutely nothing. Literally nothing. I don't get drunk, I'm not aggressive or rude. I had a guy last year get in my face threatening me because he didn't believe the passport I use to fly all over the world was really mine or that I was really 24, started asking me 'do you think I'm stupid?' and ended up calling me a snob with a D4 accent (I'm not from Dublin, I was born in the north of England) when I calmly tried to reason with him. Only reason I was there was for a mate's 26th birthday, it took 5 of the lads coming outside and threatening to move the entire party of about 40 people to another bar if I didn't get in to change his mind, and he was still muttering that my passport was fake.

Got thrown out of Redz another time for refusing to put my coat in the cloakroom 5 minutes before I was leaving. Bouncers 'joking' about beating me up and actually physically throwing me outside. Hadn't done a thing wrong, I even said I'd be happy to leave right away once I could go back and get my friends (it was late, and I'd just moved to Dublin and had no idea where to get the bus or anything) and no, that wasn't OK. I swear bouncers are another species. Absolute scumbags a lot of them. I think my problem is that unlike other girls, I refuse to flirt or play the cute little girl act when they start being d*ckheads. I won't take it. I won't beg to get in anywhere. I treat them with respect, and I expect the same back.

I totally understand what your saying, SOME bouncers do try to be the big man, and do assert themselves in situations which certainly do not call for it, as I said certain lads working under my control did try and take the piss, act the big man, in a kind of 'I-can-show-you-mate' way..

But you can be sure as fcuk I reprimanded them for it. Don't take that as me trying to be the Big Hero in all this, but it was disgraceful behaviour on undeserving patrons, by lads that should have known better, thus looking like I couldn't keep control over it, so not like I could let it slide..

Correction, SOME bouncers hit people, and they are the real pricks that give the rest of them a bad name, and as for their excuse, it is a power mad bouncer in that instance.

2 months ago at nearly lights on a guy reaches across the bar and grabs a bottle of Jager from the ice well. Downs the last of it. Bouncer catches him. One of the staff come in to the office to tell me. Turns out he was one of our event manager's friends. Guy was drunk and thought it was funny. I didn't know him. Told him to pay for the value of the jager he stole or I was calling the cops and I wanted his name. He opened his wallet, only had $15 left. Took that, and got his drivers licence. Told him he was welcome to come back in to me when sober and get his licence back. He never came back.

Last night one of the bouncers comes to find me to say they think he is back in the room. I had his licence stuck on the wall, got it and got him. Asked him to leave. He tried name dropping his friend, that doesn't matter. He was given his licence back and told to go away for a while.

No abuse thrown at time, not violent. He knew what he did wrong and was glad t get his licence back. The money I took off him before wouldn't have fully paid for the amount he had taken, but it was still put through the till.

So to all those that are moaning about bouncers, its the managers that set it all in motion. I got the bouncers to keep him in the bar and pay, then got his licence, last night I made the call to kick him out for something that happened ages and I was the one that told him now that he came back for the first time since then, his proper ban start :)

I've worked as a doorman since I was 17, I've hit a lad and it was a flash ko ended up pretty bad with him ending up in hospital, if you caught the end of it it would appear that I was completely wrong, if you caught it from the start it would be completely different as he spat on me more than 5 times, reapeatidly hit me and had his mate try hold me while he could hit me. Alot of the times when a doorman resorts to the hitting someone it's the very last resort not the first time as it can result in assault charges being pressed

I've worked in all areas of festivals including security many times and you just have to deal with it. If scumbags are acting the bollix there is usually a procedure* to deal with it. The hardest part is usually staying calm and reasonable but that's the essence of the job. To be fair it gets harder as time goes on (and as people get more drunk) and you get more jaded but you still have to put yourself in the punter's shoes and act fair, and that includes being polite.

I have no sympathy for security people I see using their authority as an excuse to be unpleasant, and I know from experience that security guards (especially at festivals!) act the maggot and goof off as much as anyone. I find supervisors to be the worst of all (as far as power trips go) though, I think the experience warps them somehow. In the end I hated doing this work because of what it expects from you, but as far as dealing with people goes it's no harder than working at the till in an off licence; and people being mean never made them better at their jobs.

*as in, someone to call, or at least instructions from the boss man beyond "tell them to **** off"
;66245231]Is it wrong that when you hear of a bouncer getting beaten up you think...hmmm he probably really ruined someone's night?
Yes, it is.
A bad night out is by no means a reason to resort to violence. People putting their nights out before other people's physical wellbeing can f*ck right off, in my opinion.

With bouncers, it's the same as finding out that some people working in shops/offices/wherever are complete arseholes. The only differences are that you're drunk so everything seems much more drastic and outrageous than it really is, and bouncers can f*ck you out of the club, instead of politely asking you to leave (which, 99 times out of 100, only prompts a "WHAT?! F*ck off you wanker I did nothing" etc. reaction, or a physical attack.)

I have seen bouncers ask countless people politely to leave, and I have only seen one person do so calmly and voluntarily.

It is the same with anything, when one deals with repugnance such as that which they have to deal with you can do one of two things, get out of it as fast as you can, or harden up and don't let it get under your skin.

I understand that it is a generalisation, but the majority of bouncers of idiots, simply because the majority of people are idiots, the bell curve tells us this. So what you have on your hands at this point is a bunch of idiots, may of whom are disenfranchised to begin with, toughening up in the face of a bunch of drunken brats, suffering from delusions of grandeur, so what do you expect? They are not going to have the manner or rational of a philosophy professor.

Just learn how to suck penis, bouncers don't care what they get it off. You'd probably look a bit weird dragging a goat around with you in the city but out here in the sticks a goat is as good as hard cash.
