Well basically I was cycling today on the road and fell in a nettle bush, as I had shorts on me, my legs got a proper beating of sting and its on fire. lol. Unfortunately my hands got a taste of it too. Anything that can help with the pain?

A friend said to use vinegar and that doesnt really help! Any other suggestions please.

    Cheers

Yeah- we used to use doc leaves too.
What about cooling the area with ice, then loading it with tea tree oil. It's a natural anti- septic.

I am starting to think a dose of drugs could possibly help me forget about the pain! haha

Vinegar is the wrong end of the acidic scale you want to get something alkaline on it like bread soda or milk of magnesium or if you have cabbage leaves in the house or slices of cucumber.

yep, dock leaves work. Anti histimine cream might take some of the pain away-it works on bee stings and things.

Dock Leaves as mentioned. Always thought they were "Dog leaves". Going for years calling them that.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,563 ✭✭✭karlog

Rub it with a dock leaf of course. It's one of those basic survival techniques you learn as a child.

Nettle stings can be excruciatingly painful.:(

I rememeber when I was about 9 years of age, I was climbing up into a friend's tree house when I stepped on a rotten brach which gave way and I fell into bush of huge nettles. I was only wearing shorts and runners. The pain was unbelieveable.

My friend's mum got dock leaves to rub on me until my mum arrived and took me to the doctor to get a shot of something that helped take away the pain and swelling. The dock leaves helped bring the sting pain down a bit.

OK then - dock leaves and if these don't work, and anti-histamine lotion for tyhe skin.

doc leaves as an awesome placebo. I was walking along a wall before because I am a retard and fell into a nettle bush/lots of rocks, good times! If you grab them with your hands instead of brushing it doesn't hurt like

    <_<

Your one stop cure for nettle stings: what we as children called "Dockin Leafs" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rumex_obtusifolius

I use BurnEze (orange spray can for burns - always keep a can in the same place in the kitchen in case anyone gets burnt or scalded, so we can reach straight for it). It has a little bit of anaesthetic stuff in it and deadens the pain.

Sounds as if you might have a bit of a reactive skin there, OP.

I'm just here to jump on the Dock leaves train.

*train leaves dock "choo chooo" *

Dock leaves aren't a placebo... The sting in nettles is caused by methanoic acid (formic acid) to get rid of the pain You should use something alkaline to neutralise the acid... Dock leaves when crushed up have a natural antidote to the formic acid sting, they also grow very close to eachother. Aloe vera would also work brilliantly... If you don't have any of these... a`paste of baking soda and water should do the trick..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 242 ✭✭s.a.man

Thanks a million everyone, I used aloe vera gel and that have helped me so much, didn't have dock leaves. Will try that next time that does happen again. Lol.

    Thanks again!

What I did once was mix crushed up Renne and water and poured it on my leg. It works! The Renne.....
Neutralises the excess acid, delivering fast, effective relief from pain.
