    Hi all,

I'm running a HP Pavilion dv1000 with Ubuntu 10.04, no matter what I do I cannot get the built in webcam to work. I've searched online and have found various workarounds which don't work.

cheese does not see a cam, nor does skype or wxcam.

It would appear that I don't have the drivers, but cannot find them online.

Can anyone give me any ideas on how to get this sorted?

I've had a quick look on Ubuntu Forums, it seems that might be a Ricoh webcam like mine. Please run
    lsusb

in a terminal and paste the output of that here.

If it is the Ricoh webcam you will need the r5u870 driver, which is fairly easy to install.

second last one is as you say Ricoh. Where will I get that driver? can I install it through synaptic?

EDIT: Nevermind, I googled it, and got the deb package for it, it's working now, thanks loldog.

Mods you can lock this if you see fit.

I spoke too soon just tried a skype call, and I'm not sending audio video is fine now. Went into sound recorder and it's not recording, any chance you have the drivers for that too? :D

You probably just need to mess around with the volume control in the Sound Control panel applet.

You could also install pavucontrol and mess around with that. Once it's installed you'll find it in the Applications/Sound and Video menu.

I had a problem with my aunts laptop where in Sound Preferences, the input was set to "Microphone 1" instead of "Microphone 2" and it worked after that, maybe give that a shot.
