Pretty cool, it was always gonna be hard to pull off Cap and not have him look silly, I like how the head is more like a hemlet, fits in the WW2 thing nicely

Seems that's gonna be his costume!

    If true, I am impressed.
Good 40's vibe from it, especially the harness/belt and helmet-esque mask

    ooh i dunno...
I was kinda hoping that they would tone it down a little.
Still, to be fair, at least the enemy would be easier to kill when they're falling around laughing....:D
Kinda hard to spy on them pesky nazis in that rigout!

I was very sceptical about how they would do the costume. But i gotta say, it looks pretty damn good. It's get the whole "it could actually be real" look about it.

I think that's as good as it could ever really be, to be honest.

Well now it defo looks like it is following the Ultimates storyline and not the classic Marvel universe Avengers storyline.

That pic is very close to the Ultimates Cap in look.

While it resembles the look, I doubt they'll use Ultimate Cap's attitude. It'll probably be 616's "boyscout" (but more awesome) Cap.

On a related note, here's some Thor concept art: http://www.empireonline.com/news/story.asp?NID=28049

I'm not sure about the storyline. The trend has been borrowing updated stylistic conceits from The Ultimate line, but using mainstream Marvel arcs. So Eddie Brock is a skinny nerd like in Ultimate Spider-Man, but is still Peter's rival and still receives his symbiote in a church like in the original story. The X-Men movies share a lot of elements with the Ultimate line (admittedly started after the first film), but use mainstream arcs (Dark Pheonix, Whedon's Mutant cure thread from Gifted and Claremont's God Loves Man Kills among others - though none of them were really too faithful, they were still drawn from regular continuity). Iron Man uses Mark Millar's reckless and arrogant (and unapologetically alcoholic) Tony and the Ultimate Nick Fury, but his origin is mainstream Marvel and there's no brain tumour. So I wouldn't expect a straight-up adaptation of The Ultimates, as awesome as that would be.

    Anyway, here's Thor:
    http://www.cinemablend.com/new/Following-In-Cap-s-Footsteps-Thor-Concept-Art-Leaked-Online-18846.html

This is more of a hybrid of classic (chainmail, cape, red lining) and Ultimate (black power vest with bubbles) versions of Thor.

EDIT: Beat me to it, Mr. K

Not a million miles from the current comic look for Thor, with the front being quite similar to the Ultimate Thor's outfit as somebody already pointed out.

    Current Thor in the comics.

I'll wait till I see what it looks like on screen before passing judgement.

And no matter how good the costume looks, it will matter diddly squat if the movie stinks.

They'll probably just take the best of both worlds such as Cap's attitude from the 616 universe but his costume and tactical brilliance from the Ultimate universe. I'd hate to see Cap have a somewhat dickish attitude like he has in the ultimate universe.

    Not digging the possible Thor.

I like my Norse gods to be rough, ready and brutal looking.

True Blood's Alexander Skarsgård should have got the part. As for Triple H this film isnt going straight to DVD you know!!!

Ah i know.... he looks the part if ya ask me but i know where your coming from acting wise..

I dont know much about Thor to be honest, only familiar with him visualy so unsure of what level of acting would be required to fill the role.

I'm just saying, i dont think the above guy is fitting for the part and his costume looks lame :(

Captain America costume looks class, like others have said it feels more "real", like it has function and reason for it's design.

As for Thor, it looks like the opposite end of the scale, too halloween costume looking. Plastic. Maybe they should have made it look more like a lord of the rings costume, he reminds me too much of Noel Edmunds for some reason.

I thought he was the best part about Fantastic Four and while not perfect I think the likes of cellular has shown he can carry a movie. Oh, and act, at least in Sunshine. He may not be leading man material, but he has that all american action look that the cap needs.

I mean, he is a million miles better than someone like Ashton Kutcher or Paul Walker, who somehow keep "starring" in movies.

Stanley Tucci and Neal McDonough have both confirmed that they will be appearing alongside Chris Evans in Captain America: The First Avenger.
Tucci has been cast as Dr Abraham Erskine, who appeared in the original comics as a German scientist who creates Project Rebirth – the top secret experiment that resulted in the creation of super soldier Captain America.
McDonough, meanwhile, confirmed that he will be playing Dum Dum Dugan in the comic movie adaptation. He also stated that he would be donning the character’s signature bowler hat.
While speaking with MTV, McDonough also confirmed the presence of The Howling Commandoes, stating the name “may change. I'm reading a few things that it might change, but at this point, it still is I]the Howling Commandos[/I.”
Captain America: The First Avenger is being directed by Joe Johnston and will be released in cinemas on 22 July 2011.

Is Sam Jackson's Fury that different? In Iron Man 2, he seemed more 616 (personality wise) than Ultimate, didn't he?

If we're being realistic, would a black man have gotten to lead his own team in World War 2? But I suppose in a universe with green monsters, super soldiers and norse gods, reality isn't important. ;)

Whats Portmans role in the film... Im presuming (love interest) but whats her comic book tie in?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 22,905 ✭✭✭✭Handsome Bob

She's Thor's nurse in the comics at first I think, and becomes a love interest. Jane Foster is her name.

Or maybe they are going to use the premise behind the Ultimate version of Nick Fury.
Which was that he was a test subject in the same super soldier programme as Steve Rogers. But his test did not go according to plan, and he did not end up being as strong etc as Cap, but his aging process slowed down dramatically. Which would explain how he could have fought in WW2 as a soldier and still look like Sam Jackson today, over sixty years later
    .

    Source MTV News
Chris Evans says 'Captain America: The First Avenger' will have comedy moments.
The 29-year-old star - who plays the titular superhero in the comic-book adaptation - admits the project will be a "happy medium" between 'Batman' and 'Spider-Man' and there will be some comic relief for the audience.
He said: "They did mix in some good comedy. It's not comedy on the nose, we're not cracking jokes, but they did find away to add humour."
Discussing the "gloss" of the movie, he added: "I definitely asked the director Joe Johnston, 'What kind of gloss are we going for here? Is this going to have the kind of 'Spider-Man', 'Fantastic Four' shine?'
"He said it's not going to be that glossy, not that colourful, but we're not going as dark as something like 'Batman'.
"I think it will be a nice, happy medium."
Chris also admits he has admiration for the 'Iron Man' films because of their successful balance between the fantastical and reality.
He told MTV News: "I think the world of 'Iron Man' was done really well. It stayed grounded in reality and yet still stayed true to the fact that it's a comic book movie, so it does have to have some life to it."
'Captain America: The First Avenger' is due to hit cinemas in July 2011.

got a look at those pics on IMDB too.

must say im liking the asthetic of the film, its got a kind of sci fi band of brothers look to it.

smiled when i saw the original triangular shield too. wasnt sure if they'd do that, prefering to go straight to the circular one. nice nod to hitches ultimates 40s design cap as well.

cap is one of the films im really looking forward to as ala hellboy the whole nazi period is rife for "alternate" history fiction but i freely admit itll either be brilliant or a big pile of pants as it VERY easy to **** this one up.

i guess the first trailer will tell us alot.

    wheres my damn trailer !

    :)

chomping at the bit to see one now that bits and bobs are slipping out on the design front . the pic looks abit off but then again its probably taken out of context ala the transformers designs when they first popped up.

also from what ive been reading on it , the costumes meant to go through some permutations in the film before settling on its look, the helmet and goggles is meant to be in there at some stage too.

gotta say im really looking forward to this. pulling off this and thor is marvels toughest acts as its really easy to mess it up but so far what ive seen is very encouraging.

theres really not all that much in it so its hard to tell but i like how it LOOKs so far and i REALLY like how well they made chris look so frail pre rebirth as cap.

considering there really wasnt that much in the thor one this is the one i liked most and TBH its only made me want to see a proper 2min trailer more.

    good work so far.

    :)

I like what is in that teaser, especially the Red Skull reveal.

The scene where Cap has just changed from seven stone weakling to Mr Buffed looks just like as it was drawn in the Ultimates origin series.
