Gaining weight (not muscle)

    Hi All,

I am a 25 year old male and would consider myself to be a sports fanatic. I play Gaelic football to a high level and also rugby in the off season. I also do regular work outs in the gym, cardio and strength and conditioning. I have always considered myself to be a very fit person and was proud of my body. However recently I have started to gain weight, notably around my chin. This past month or so I injured my hamstring playing football and have had to cut back on the training I have been doing with the team. My manager was the person who recommended it so that i would be fit for all our recent games including our club championship game. When I say fit, I mean fit to play the games. However he told me to rest up training. Anyway I only played the games and generally wasnt fit for the next team session because of my hamstring injury. I would also consider myself to have a healthy diet as well. I drink 3-4 litres of water a day, eat 5 portions of fruit, my breakfast consists of a bowl of all bran and lunch a sandwich and dinner would generally be chicken or meat and vegetables. I enjoy a bit of chocolate with a cup of tea and would maybe take one bar a day. I dont usually eat out in terms of takeaways, maybe once in a fortnight. I would however take a few drinks after a match. But basically my gaining weight is getting me done, and is become very noticeable especially round my chin and face. I am not fat but I want to be back to my lean self.

Has anyone any tips for me or see anywhere i can maybe alter my liferstyle to cut down my size?

Surely once your injury heals you will be back to training normally? If you are eating to a level which maintains your body (ie no fat loss or weight gain) then injure yourself and stop training as hard but eat the same way you will probably gain weight. If you haven't already looked into rehab maybe see a good sports physio to get some info and look at some light exercise like walking or whatever you think doesn't aggravate your hamstring.
