My phone just said there was a new update it wanted to download so I left it off, after lots of reboots it's now running 1.21.405.2. Didn't actually say what the update did but it was ~27Mb so guess is must of have changed a few things.

This is on one of the stock unlocked Meteor phones btw.

That was released quite some time ago. Strange that you're only getting it now OTA.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 187 ✭✭Murilloinf

    That's why i don't have it then, =/

OTA depends on your network =/

To be fair, HTC release patches fairly timely. The only thing they're slow at is releasing new OS revisions.

It's been available for manual update for a couple of weeks, but I don't think it was available for OTA before today.

    Do me a favour, guys:

Log in to your youtube account, using the new youtube app, then place the new youtube widget on your homescreen. Tell me if it says 'loading' instead of displaying the most watched videos...

Already sent HTC a bug report, but I just want to confirm that it's not just me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 211 ✭✭djgaillimh

Folks, do not apply this update if you have de-branded your Desire/flashed to the generic 1.15.405 rom.

    It will break your wifi.

If you've never done those things, or if you have no idea what they even mean, don't worry about it you'll be fine.

Just tried that & it looks to work fine for me. To be certain, this is what I did, opened the youtube app, logged in as myself, closed it, add the widget to an empty screen & it started showing the most viewed clips. To be sure I clicked on one (turned out to be some eurovision thing) and it played ok.

Noticed it has the HQ button selected presumably cause I'm using wifi.

    Thanks.

How can you break your wireless

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 211 ✭✭djgaillimh

the update contains a new radio image, which seems to cause some conflict with the generic rom that people have been using to debrand their phone.

End result is, the wi-fi stops working and can't be restored without a full wipe and manual install.

    To quote the HTC website:
Update – HTC Desire Firmware Over The Air (FOTA) update
In our commitment to providing you with the best user experience, we are pushing out a new firmware update to your phone. Your phone will receive a notification of this update when it is made available. Simply press OK to accept the update via a data connection such as Wi-Fi or GPRS/3G. After installing the update, you can confirm a successful update by confirming the Software Number (From the Home Screen go to MENU> Settings> About Phone> Software information> Software number). The new software number after the update will be 1.15.405.4 for an HTC phone.
    1.15.110.11 on T-Mobile
    1.15.61.10 on Orange

I expect the firmware version number will vary from operator to operator.

Got the notification for it today too, any ideas what the update contains?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 211 ✭✭djgaillimh

New youtube app, new radio image, some bug fixes (including the facebook/unknown contact bug, apparently). Probably some other things too.

deadbloke - that's an old press release. The new FW is 1.21.405.2

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,992 ✭✭✭✭partyatmygaff

It comes with HBOOT .80 as well which needs a different root method and once rooted cannot be unrooted like those on HBOOT .75

In settings - about phone - software

    Firmware number = Android version

Software number = Specific HTC rom

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,053 ✭✭✭opus

There's a thread about this update on the XDA developers site which is worth a read.

No, you're behind by one update!

1.21.405 is the latest rom. Try a manual check in the settings -about phone - system software updates menu. If it's not there yet, you'll get it at some point over the next few days.

It hasn't been there long. I did a manual check for an update about a week ago. It was up to date. Now there is one available. Hopefully it will fix the facebook syncing issue.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,324 ✭✭✭chrislad

    Didn't fix facebook sync. Grrrrr.

    Does your wifi still work?

I have read the first page and the second page, don't see anything about rooted phones only debranded, mine was never branded in the first place.

Rooted phones don't get OTA updates. If you want to update to the latest stock version you need to download it from HTC, it's called the RUU file and it works as a manual update.

A manual search shows the ota update . I was just wondering whether to install or not....

Edit: By manual I mean Menu>Settings>about phone>system software updates>check now.

For those with WiFi problems i'd recommend flashing the newest radio on your phone.

    http://android.adamg.co.uk/bravo/radio/32.37.00.32U_4.06.00.16_2.zip

That is an official HTC radio so don't worry about it being buggy or whatever.

    To install the radio...
Rename the zip to update.zip and put it on the root of your sdcard...

    1. Turn off your phone and restart it with the Volume down button held down.
    2. Use the volume keys to navigate to RECOVERY and then then push the power button (Don't hold it, just push the button)
    3. Push either Volume up or Volume down and you'll be sent to the Android recovery menu. Go straight to "Flash zip from Sdcard" (DO NOT SELECT WIPE!) and choose update.zip
    4. Push the trackpad and the radio will start flashing.
    5. The phone will restart and your new radio will have been installed.

If you need any help or clarification just post back in the thread.

To PAMG, is that to flash the radio as in fm receiver or as in the radio chip for all wireless communications?

My WiFi works perfect most of time but seems to time out if left connected but not active for over an hour or so.
Disconnecting and reconnecting does the trick.
    Worth installing this so?
Does phone have to be rooted?
    Thanks,
    Keith

Edit: I only installed firmware now so I should wait and see how that goes first. Didn't read your post properly 1st...

    Installing update now.....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,225 ✭✭✭Keith186

Check out the camera, looks to have more functionality from what I remember from using it last time.
    Far more options and settings.

Also noticed in messages it now shows the number of texts in a thread.

Was Google search widget in the list before too?

Radio as in for all wireless communications. It may increase battery life too.

I thought this was the case as well but today i was promted to update my desire via OTW and mine has been rooted since day 1.

You must be on the stock rooted rom I take it?

I'm on the latest build of the MoDaCo rom at the moment so that's why I don't get OTA updates. Doesn't bother me at all. If I really want an update I can just create my own rom with the update.

Strictly saying, whether a phone is rooted or not has no bearing on OTA updates. It's whether it's a stock rom or a custom rom.

Tried this but when I select the recovery menu and press the power button (step 2), I get the htc logo for a few seconds, then a graphic of the phone itself with a big red warning triangle/exclamation mark.

Only way to clear it is to pull the battery after which the phone will start up normally when its reinserted and powered on.

    Any ideas?

You've gotten to Recovery mode the next step you need to do is to go to the stock Recovery menu. To do this you can either push a custom recovery to your phone (Which isn't neccessary at all for a stock radio flash) or you can push VOL-Down or VOL-Up in Recovery Mode and you will get a blue Recovery menu.

Just a quick reply to thank PAMG for his help tonight - what started out as a "simple" wireless update turned into a 4 hour rooting and custom rom marathon! :p

Really appreciate your patience and effort with getting this all sorted! I may well be back to you once I look into this custom rom stuff some more ;)

    Cheers!!

Erm, where's my HTC calendar widget with agenda view gone?
Update applied yesterday evening, and just noticed the widget I use most is gone from the phone. It worked perfectly with half a dozen google calendars.
    Anyone else notice it missing?

Clock and weather widget is missing from my homepage too.
Surely someone would have mentioned this if they'd seen it too?
Stock from Meteor, just this update applied OTA.

OK, they're back after a restart and battery removal
