6'1, 22, 16 odd stone. Maintenance calories a day around the 3,000 mark. Weight is falling off me anyway since I stopped eating bread and all kinds of sweet things because of what I believe is the onset of coeliasm or similar (lethargy, poor stomach) and I just said I'd give a ridiculously healthy lifestyle a go for the laugh, give it a month and see what these big improvements are like that people keep spouting about :P

On this about 10 days or so and energy levels are through the roof, definitely had some outrageous intolerance to white bread or something building up through the last few years. Can't seem to sleep for more than 6 hours a night though!

    7-9am
2 Poached Eggs. 50g smoked mackerel. 2 slices brown bread. Green tea
    OR
2 Poached Eggs. 2 slices of cooked deli ham. Wholemeal Pitta. Green tea.

    12-2pm
4 Unsalted Ricecakes. 85g John West Tuna sachet w/lime and pepper
    OR
4 Seed Ryvita. 85g John West Tuna sachet (various flavours)

    6-8pm
1/4 pound organic burger, patted dry, no bun. 1/2 cup spinach. Few carrots OR 3-4 asparagus spears OR similar florets of brocolli. 60-100g Cooked Quinoua w/small bit tinned tomatoes/onions/garlic.
    OR
Small salmon fillet cooked in tinfoil. Similar mix of veg. Similar amount of quinoua

(In between breakfast/lunch and lunch/dinner I try and get in something like an Apple, eggcup full of nut/raisin mix or a bit or Ryvita or Ricecake, but this is easier said than done. Weaning myself off diet coke, less than a can a day, and drinking at least a litre of water + 4-5 cups of green tea)

I'd appreciate any comments - going for a totally clean diet. Don't touch dairy anyway as my skin flares up a bit on it. Cottage Cheese can go f*ck itself as well :D Looking to get my hands on some Swiss Chard and other bits and pieces to up my cooking skills.

Drinking is almost cut out, no beer because of the intolerence anyway, mainly straight JD or double JD w/Diet Coke, or Vodka and Diet 7-Up. No more than... say 8 units a week normally, but I've had a bad tendency to throw 350ml-500ml into me on big nights out minus mixer whatever the calorific content is there...

littletony you don't have to be ultra healthy to lose weight. I joined weight watchers online as I was embarassed to go to meetings. Started off at 21 stone and am below 16 stone now. Ate what I wanted as long as I didnt go over the points, my only exercise was a 2 mile walk every evening, which is great now considering the weather. I still got out for a couple of pints at the weekend. Once you start to lose a few pounds and people comment thats all the motivation you need to increase your exercise and keep on going.
Just a few small changes will make the world of difference.

    Best of luck

Tbh I've hit 17 stone a couple times in the last 2 years through pure boozing and sedentary lifestyle (college being college). A lot of my motivation comes purely from the all the extra energy I have from kicking bread/wheat - it's only gotten bad in the last 6 months and I was afraid it was a thyroid problem or something!

This whole healthy lark is just me going, **** it, if I'm giving up bread and beer I might as well go the whole hog if I'm going to cut out my favourite things and give it a couple of weeks to see if its all its cracked up to be. It's only going on about 10 days now so I'm really not one to talk or be giving advice!

So yeah, while trimming up is always nice, the motivation for me is really because of the very noticeable results in relation to my energy levels and, by proxy, an improvement in mood as opposed to weight lose or a healthier lifestyle.

However, from reading the threads, the concept of targets and goals is probably the most important thing in the initial stages from what I can see. It's a tenant of psychology and human nature. You say yourself your problem is with self-discipline, thats your first port of call.

At your weight, your maintenance calories would be so high anyway that any small change in your lifestyle would yield results. At the very least switch from coke to something like diet coke or squash or something. You'll be getting rid of this -

    Sugar+Stacks+Coca+Cola.jpg

Which will end up giving you diabetes if nothing else. Get rid of the coca-cola and you'd lose a couple of kilos in weeks without doing anything else. Then maybe make another small change and build from that.
