cant seem to find anything on the limerick docks at all.

there was a website i came across a few weeks ago..possibly shannon development? it showed foynes, dublin, limerick port etc and the size of the ships they can hold and times of them coming and leaving..cant find it anywhere!

Why not contact the Shannon Foynes Port Authority (Used to be Limerick Harbour Commissioners)

I was on Barringtons Pier one night in the pitch dark when a ship went gliding by. It was magical.

so is there any place that shows the estimated time of arrival and departure into limerick docks?

    the above links dont help!

Any ship using Limerick Docks has to arrive or leave near high tide, the docks have gates that open (as far as I remember) 1 hour before high water and close at high water. Since high water typically occurs twice a day,
Get a tide time table for limerick and you can then rule out 22 of every 24 hours each day, the harbour commissioners used to print them for £1 a copy.

Ships in limerick docks rarely spend more than 48 hours alongside unless they need repairs. If you see a ship in the docks and know the time of high water there is a very good chance it will leave then.

Edit, after using the AIS site for a few minutes...:
Using: http://www.marinetraffic.com/ais/ posted above, on the left menu tick the yellow 'Ports' box. Limerick then appears and then click on limericks symbol. It shows expected arrivals....

    www.sfpc.ie
shannon foynes port company gives information about the different ports and berths available along the estuary, they do not publish a schedule though, instead it is sent by email each morning.
marine traffic or ais is not really useful though.
give me a shout and I can let you know of some upcoming arrivals or departures.

the tide tables are available here for download.

loads of Limerick Docks photos here with some nice ship photos

the "Solent Fisher" tanker will arrive in Limerick tonight about 11pm and will sail again about 11am tomorrow morning.
the largest ship ever to come into Foynes will arrive tomorrow, fog permitting. she is over 61000 tonnes deadweight

the ship thats coming to foynes is called "Si Bulk Prosper", at least thats what it says on the shipping list but i cant find a photo of it which is unusual. it might be a new ship

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 30 veesix

i reckon its this one. the name might not have fit on the list. the deadweight here is said to be 54300 but thats definitely wrong, owners website says 60700.
either which way she is one big ship

eta at pilot station was for shortly after midnight but i am not sure what time it will berth in foynes, depends on the fog. it will be there for at least a few days anyway

    added info:
200m x 30m with a 10m draft and 20000t animal feed on board. she'll be assisted with 2 tugs in and out

this one is in foynes today:

Saw a ship coming into Sligo bay last Friday evening. Followed it from Rosses Point in to the harbour. It was really cool and a total fluke, first time I've ever seen it in my 26 years. If you ever find yourself up those parts you can sometimes see the ships from Rossport sitting out in the distance before they head for shore. Will try and post photos

the Sibulk Prosperity will berth in Foynes about 11am this morning

Is the main road by the yacht club the best vantage point?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 30 veesix

Its massive - Can I ask the innocent questions as to what exactly would a Vessel of this size normally be carrying into Foynes, (does it part unload and keep on going) how often, from who and to what destination?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 30 veesix

its part unloading 20000 tonnes animal feed in foynes and going onto belfast after that, i dont know if belfast is the last stop or not. her draft is 10.5 so she probably has 50-60000 on board.
there another ship in foynes today which also has 20000t onboard. i dont know how often and how much comes in but its the season
