    Hi,

I'm getting married next year and have recently stopped biting my nails as there will be close up photographs of our hands for cutting the cake and the ring.

My nails are growing fast but are quite brittle and break easily. Does anyone have any tips to make them stronger and healthier?

    Thanks guys

Rub coconut oil onto your cuticles :D

As for a bit of strength use Jessica nails products, they have one I love called "Fusion" I love it :D

Boots do a hair and nail supplement which helps.

I was a biter too but now if I want to bite them I get out the pink Sally Hansen cuticle nail brush and put some of that on instead. It seems to strenghten them from the base too.

there's a product called nailtiques in salons to help grow natural nails.
they have a product called oil therapy and its good to stop biting nails, and get the therapist to look at your nails as there are different formulas for different types of nails (like skin care).

    +1 for coconut oil.

I read recently (probably in Fashion and Appearance) not to use products marked 'strenghtening' on flaky or peeling nails, but to use products marked 'nourishing' or moisturising.

I suppose if the're in good shape but just weak then strenghtening products will do the job.

Make sure you use rubber gloves washing up or using household detergents!

Nailtiques do a good formula for brittle/weak nails that I found very good. When I stopped biting my nails my beautician told me to keep my nails well trimmed and avoid them getting too long as the longer they get, the weaker they get. Just keep them neat until they get stronger.
Definitely try and wear gloves when washing dishes as the hot water can cause nails to get very bendy and weak.
And don't forget about your overall hand care, I know after I stopped biting my nails my cuticles were a mess and I had a lot of dry sore skin around the sides of my nails. A good hand cream goes a long way too! I use Molton Brown Nurture- Desert Bloom Intensive Hand Cream or Dermalogica's Multivitamin Hand and Nail. Both pricey but very good.
    And congrats on the wedding!!

Great advice above about hand lotion (I like Vaseline's Hand & Nail one). Putting it on even once a day really makes a difference, but I have to admit that I'm the worst in the world for remembering to do it :D

If you're looking for a strengthener, Mavala Scientifique Nail Hardener is the best I've ever used. It's a tiny little bottle of pale blue liquid that is watery rather than nail varnishy.

You paint it on, it dries almost instantly, leaving almost no evidence.

It's unbelievable how well it works.

+1, works great and doesn't leave a varnishy appearance to your nails, though depending on how evenly it was spread (really watery so it can run around on the nail as you move your hand) it can leave a blue residue where a droplet was, but that wipes off easy with just a plain tissue. Also I found that multiple paintings at a time had an even better effect for strengthening the nails. :)

It's amazing how great your nails can look and be when you take care of them well. I used to be so bad biting my nails when I was younger and it took me years to get them right again. Now people ask me if I'm wearing fake nails they look that good, so all the hard work does pay off in the end!!

Don't do the dishes without gloves.

I bit my nails when I was much younger but I found they looked so pretty in comparison after I stopped for a week or two that it spurred me on to continue. Once you see results, you'll want to keep it up!
