Im looking for advice if anyone can help me out!

Im looking to get fit as im hoping to get back into Football at the end of the summer and i really just want to loose weight and become healthier. First my diet is horrible really really bad. I mostly just eat meat and carbs. I dont eat any veg. I just have a gag reflex i cant get over that i cant stomach them. Its retarded i know and really unhealthy but i just simply cant. Call it a psychological problem if you will but thats the situation.

I want to look at my diet first and see what i can do around that to maybe help me on my way. If i was to list what i do eat i suppose it would be chichen, beef, fish, pork, lamb, eggs, potatoes, pasta, rice, noodles, breads, pittas, wraps, yoghurts, some fruits among some other items. Iv been trying to be more sensible and cutting down on my volume which is working well so far but also the processed stuff straight from the freezer etc i rely greatly on which i want to cut out aswell. Iv pretty much cut out all minerals / fizzy drinks and been drinking water happily except for when i go out drinking with friends which is usually cider or beer.

With regards excercise iv only really started to do some daily walking to which i want to build my fitness up sooner rather than later to begin jogging. I broke my ankle last year where i had surgery and had a plate, 2 screws and some pins put in. These are permanent. That was really the demise to me becoming really unfit and not so active. I did do some physio excercises but never followed it up. I do have mobility and it hasnt really restricted me from doing anything but i do get some pains from time to time but was told that could be expected..

Can anyone offer any advice what would be the best approach for me? Just continue as im going ? Should i cut out carbs completely and focus only on high protein meats?

Thanks for any advice as i really appreciate it.

Sounds like you largely know what to do, you need to go do it now.

Yes, reduce/eliminate your white carbs, and you are going to have to start getting some manner of fruit/veg into you.

You should have continued with the physio's recommendations, but for now it would be good to start concentrating on building strength there. So weights are key.

Thanks for your reply. Apprecite it

For now then do you suggest focusing on becoming fitter with excercise then focusing on loosing the weight or should i aproach both hand in hand.

Im obviously not happy being overweight but becoming fit before the summers end is key now. Ill focus more on my diet and try improve it as best i can. From reading some of the stickies and other replies in the threads it seems the key to loosing weight is to cut out carbs as much as possible while increasing the protein and whole food items (fruit / veg) intake while burning off more calories than you take in on a daily basis

Would completely switching to wholegrain foods (Pasta/Rice/Breads/Pittas) be much more beneficial for the time being while trying to adapt my diet? Or am i really just fooling myself?

I know you said you hate veggies but you should take advice from other boardies. I've gotten some pretty helpful tips myself since joining!

-Try using homous! Get some veggie sticks and use the hommous as a dip. I've heard many people saying this has benefited them greatly as they can now eat things they could not eat before! You could also try peanut butter instead, although I've never tried that myself.

-You could try making something such as lasagne or bolognase or shepheards pie etc. Cut the veggies into small little pieces and you won't even notice they're there!

-If you eat potatoes, you could try mashing them together with veggies like I did when I was little :pac: (Even though you should be cutting down on white carbs)

-Perhaps you could try making a salad. The mix of all the different flavours might not be so bad! Lettuce, Raw peppers, Tomatoes, Boiled egg, Apples, Coleslaw, Potato salad etc.! Mix in the things you like to eat :)

-Homemade vegetable soup is both tasty and healthy! Blend the whole thing into a paste and you won't know there's veg in it at all :D

-Also it's important that if you're cooking veggies to make sure they're cooked properly! If you overcook them they become soft, unlikable, and lose most of the nutrients in them!

Yea your completely right in all you say! Ill have to try some method anyways. I dont know what it is but i just cant control the reaction. I know its all in my head anyways but i need to sort it out now sooner rather than later.

Yea seems like the advice given here is top notch so hopefully someone can steer me in the right direction or offer advice for now. I just became too lazy and lost motivation to do anythin when i broke my ankle. Need to get back on the horse as they say haha!

Thanks alot ill need it haha. Picking myself up an Iron Gym pull up bar. Going to start doing some of them and see how it goes.

Just a question on some of the food i intake. Should the likes of Yoghurts be avoided? Natural Yoghurts are nasty but the likes of the Muller Corner etc should i be avoiding them or would one for my lunch every second day be bad?

For example for lunch today ill have Two boiled eggs , small wholemeal pitta, muller corner yhogurt and nutrigrain bar.

Trying to mix it up as much as possible and get as much protein as possible but just wondering like little extras like yhogurts or the nutrigrain bar and what not should be cut out?

Check the ingredients and decide for yourself. Generally rule you can stick by is, if you don't know what the ingredients are, don't eat it. :p

Check the amount of sugar, salt etc. also :)

    Hi There

As your stated goal is to lose weight (and by this I assume you mean body fat ;)) then IMHO I would ditch the yogurt, the nutrigrain bar and the pitta to be honest.

I would replace the pitta with a large salad (mixed leaves and various veg) and add in some cottage cheese also.

If you search on here you will find a healthy recipie thread which contains lots of great food/meal ideas. I have ditched yogurts and instead I make a kind of mousse with cottage and some frozen berries, which I set with a little gelatine. Healthy and taste really nice.

    Best Regards,

    M
