Stir Fry sauces

    Hi everyone,

I am a low GL person here, have been since mid feb and am down 23lbs in total even though I dont watch calories and eat a high enough healthy fat diet. I am great for brekkie and lunch food wise but i dont eat a heavy carb in the evening and have a stirfy or an omlette most evenings.

Can someone please help me make a healthy sauce to wet my stir fry up a bit. I tried ElieenG's easy satay one at the weekend but i obviously didnt do it right. I avoid all packet sauces cos of the salt and sugar content but I am open to a suggestion of healthier ones if someone knows them.

Also, i have been using soy all along and want something with a bit more of a kick.

    Thanks in advance!!

Worcestershire sauce, a little hot sauce and a tsp sesame oil gives a lovely kick.

tsp honey, soy sauce and tsp of sesame oil goes lovely on chicken or prawns.

Soy sauce and fresh ginger go really well together was well, cook with chicken and scallions.

Hot sauce, is essentially Tabasco sauce.
There are other ones that have more of a base add so you cab use it like ketcup, but these are full of sugar most of the time. Add Tabasco to a decent base sauce like teriaki or plain soy, or just to stir fryu pan juices and give it a good toss.

    Hi OP
I don't like jar/packet sauces either for the sugar/salt (although I'm hooked on the el paso BBQ spice), so I like making a stir fry and pouring a homemade curry sauce over it afterwards. I don't know if this would be what you're looking for but it would certainly have a kick! Just need to boil some water with some chicken stock and add in curry power, cumin, tumeric, ginger, cayenne pepper for a bite etc and anything else you want to throw in, and let it simmer in the saucepan on the side while you're doing the stirfry.

    hope this helps

Soy sauce, mirin (rice wine) and a small bit of seasame oil.

Soy sauce, oyster sauce (watch amount of MSG ), black pepper, small bit of stock.

Soy sauce, ginger and loads of garlic.

chilis either in any of the above.

Soy sauce and cajun seasoning. You can buy this in the spice rack at Tesco. Makes for a delicious stir fry (rice or noodles) when served with soy sauce.

Just a point on soy sauce, OP it's great stuff, but naturally has a bit of salt in it,
check label amount, just in case it was for health reasons

Did one last night with - Some chili oil, little salt & pepper, 2 tbsp soy sauce, couple shakes of hot sauce, 1 & 1/2 tbsp cayene pepper. Was nice and had a reasonably powerful kick.

Suprised no one mentioned fresh lime juice yet! I add things like garlic, chili, lemon grass stalks, indian spices (cumin, corriander, turmeric, garam masala etc), mustard seeds, curry leaves, water chestnuts, cashews, seeds, peanuts, soya sauce, mirin, oyster sauce, a bit of stock, peanut oil, toasted sesame oil, ginger, coconut milk or flakes, fresh corriander, wochester sauce, tobasco etc to add interest, whatever I have handy really.
