    Anybody going to this?

Would be happy to meet any Boardsies or in particular any other 924 owners (with or without their cars)!

Never been to a track day so no idea how it works. If you book yourself in, do you just get a slot (amongst others) to go out and give it a lash on the track? If you want to do more than a "parade" lap do you need safety gear or any such?

    CHEERS!

I was at it last year with the Merc Club, it was a good day out. AFAIK, all entrants can apply for a 3 lap tour of the circuit...supervised and all that.. but cool if you are with a load of club cars.

    Nice one.

So basically laps on Classic Car Live day are just parade laps, and not throw your car around laps. Fair enough.

    Just reading here...

    http://www.mondello.ie/classic_car_live/classic_car_live_elegible_vehicles/

Anyone know their real attitude to post 1980 cars? (e.g. 1983 :p)
It says to check first for eligibility.

Well it wasn't an issue the last one I was at as their were mid 80`s Mazda`s and BMW`s at the show. So I don`t see it being an issue its probably just on the site to stop the jokers turning up in mid 90`s RWD heaps of junk :) Depending on how busy the track is you might be able to push, just make sure you car is up to the task!

I had a 91 car but with the Merc club and on their stand. There was another one like mine, a 94, but on the Carlow Vintage stand.

Sending my form in today. :)

Closer to the date we might make a wee list with whatever Boardsies and their cars will be there.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,238 ✭✭✭vincenzolorenzo

I'm not sure how you arrange it but both years its been on they had 'fast' track sessions where people can tackle the track at pace. The normal laps that are open to everybody are just parade laps behind the safety car. IIRC they hold 2-3 sessions, maybe 15 mins each. Maybe give Mondello a ring and see can you book in for it or something

On reflection I'd be content with a parade lap. I use my car regularly and don't really want to stress it out too much! According to Jenny at Mondello you can sign up for parade laps at the office on the day.

I would love to come but I might not be able to, will see!!!
I would be coming witha 924 anyway are none of them is finish.

Could you tell how this classic car show is working?

I have been into one classic car show in my life, and basically the car were in the field, and you could look at them and having a chat with the owner it was pretty cool! :D

That's after it, that I decide to buy a classic car!! ;)

That's all there is to it!

You don't need to have one of your 924's ready - just come along and check out the cars. The only difference is if you bring a classic parking is a bit more complicated. :D

This show in Mondello is a little different to all other shows though. Inside the paddock its just like a normal show with many different types of car on display for people to look at/admire/criticise, etc along stalls selling autojumble, books, etc as well. But the big difference between this show and others is that car owners are given the opportunity to complete some parade laps of the track which is a nice feature. Not to mention race prepared classics entertaining the crowd too. Its a great show, make sure to come along to it if you can at all

Here's a clip a friend of mine took of some of the racing action

Due to the fact that displaying a car in Mondello will require me being there at a time I can't make - I will be going - but parking with the moderns. :)

Might bump into some of you anyway. :)

    +1

Wonderfull atmosphere, great selection of cars and my God how good was the weather. Im burnted to a crisp :D

I brought the Renault 8 from work and it got a good reception so im happy. Well run day all in all. The only down side, and you'd expect it but the food was daylight robbery. All in all though I'd have to say well done to the organizers.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,263 ✭✭✭✭Eoin

Yeah, I got scalded in the sun as well! I had heard there would be a new Alfa 8C there which I would have loved to have seen, but no sign of it.

Still though - a massive range of impressive cars on display. The Shelby 350 GT replica was just one of many that I was drooling over.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 167 ✭✭ikb

I couldn't get over the size of the Testarossa while standing beside it. Tis a bit of a beast.

I've been to all three CCLs and this one was certainly one of the best. its always a good show and the quality of the cars this year was particularly memorable.

I'm possibly sticking my neck out here, but myself and my seven fellow club members (BMW 2002s) are constantly surprised that more attendees don't do the fast track session. All of us (bar one and that was only because he suffered a dodgy water hose on the day) did the fast track and had a blast without any problems. I understand ourselves and the triumphs were the only club organised fast track runs - correct me if I'm wrong.

I appreciate that it can be a little hard on the cars, but - for me anyway - its one the few times i can really go balls out in my car for a reasonable length of time without worrying about breaking speed limits or the law.

Just wondering if perhaps Mondello isn't perhaps marketing the fast track opportunity too much for fear that too many people would want to do it.

    any thoughts?
