Japan vs England

    Venue: UPC Arena, Graz

    Date: Sunday, 30 May 2010

    Kick-off: 1315 BST

    Live: ITV1 from 12:50

Should be an interesting game between these two on Sunday. Capello has already named his line-up for the match:

David James, Glen Johnson, John Terry, Rio Ferdinand, Ashley Cole, Theo Walcott, Tom Huddlestone, Frank Lampard, Aaron Lennon, Wayne Rooney, Darren Bent.

Lennon will be on the left with Walcott on the right which will be different. Good chance for Bent to impress also. Capello names his squad on Tuesday and according to the BBC:
Capello, who revealed he already knows 20 of his 23-man party, will trim his squad from 30 to 23 on Tuesday.

I wonder how many of the players named are in danger of missing out. Looking forward to seeing how well Japan play.

I reckon he has the 23 lads picked but he wants them to go out and play well so he has to say that otherwise if he came out and said "I know everyone that's going" They wouldn't bother showing their arses.

One player that is going to cause ripples in the transfer market after this World Cup is Atsuto Uchida who plays right back.

Actually their other full back was sold to CSKA for €6 million in January, thats Keisuke Honda and he is going to be a superstar. I can't see him lasting long with CSKA, I think he is the best full back outside Evra and Cole that I've seen playing in the last two years.

Both of them are attacking fullbacks, really good on the ball and really pacy.

I didn't realise this was on today, sweet!!

I though Rooney was no where near 100%? Why play him?

He needs the games after his recent ankle injury

He seems to like Walcott a lot, looks like he's really accomodating him by playing Aaron Lennon left wing. Thought Walcotts place in the squad might have been dodgy after this season, didnt expect him to be starting most of these friendlies

Japan are terrible but we'll see.

I agree about Honda, couldnt believe it when he went to CSKA.

England's first choice back four continue to look suspect.

None of the possibles impressing - is Bent on the pitch?

Why do English commentators constantly feel the need to remind the audience that there is always a bright outlook no matter what situation the team is in?

    Is it for viewing figures?

I'm sick of reading your drivel. Based on your previous posts both here and elsewhere on boards you clearly have a problem with England. So I ask you, what the fúck are you even watching the game for?

Their central midfield players are about as creative as ours

Hudd seems to be playing himself off the plane while Lampard along with all of the probables (Rooney aside) seems more concerned about not picking up a knock.

    wow, England look painfully lethargic.

the only player who looks likely is Cashley; maybe Lennon too.

Pretty dreadful stuff overall by England.

Japan looked well organised and technically good.

    Needs more Adam Johnson

Jebus, England were shocking in that half.

This is hilarious, England getting the run around by the Japanese. Worst England team in decades! :D

Has Rooney played worse? Will Walcott ever play well?

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 32,865 ✭✭✭✭MagicMarker

Johnson deserves 45min, he'd run rings around their LB!

Having Lennon on the left baffles me too.

Is it just me... or has Rooney suddenly gone completely bald almost overnight?.

    Lampards going thin on top.

Capello obviously likes Walcott on the right and although he isnt really doing the biz atm he ddid score a hattrick in crotia during the qualifiers and in doing so cement his starting role in Capellos eyes there and then. Capello however also likes Lennon who imo is more deserving of being in the team atm so is trying him out on the left to see if both can be accomodated since Lennon has played there before for Spurs. With Walcott already having played the majoritty of the last match however i would expect Johnson on for 20mins to stake a claim for his place on the plane as lennon (who could be considered competition to backup Gerrard if he plays left wing dependant on how capello views his performance) moves to RW.

did anyone see that Ladbrokes adverts, bloody cringe worth stuff

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 415 ✭✭SeanKev

Don't mean to be biased but Walcott has done fcuk all.
    AJ has to come on.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,213 ✭✭✭✭therecklessone

England weak down their right side for that 45mins, which makes it baffling that Lennon has been left out on the left and so little ball has been played down that side anyway.

Huddlestone not covering himself in glory, but he doesn't have to do much to meet the standard Carrick set vs Mexico.

A Johnson and Parker on for Walcott and Hudd to start the 2nd half IMO.

Joe Cole going bald as well, it's like England have picked a squad of 30 from BGRH...

I did mention earlier about those two fullbacks. They are both world class.

I think Huddlestone, Bent and Walcott are going to be left behind.

    SWP but no AJ, wtf?
Why did Cappello pick him, he's given him 6 minutes.

These are friendlies, let the lad prove himself.

So a player who was in the championship 6 months ago, has good form for his new club City, deservedly gets a place in the 30 but features only 6 minutes in 2-3 friendlies?

    I won't hold my breath.
