    hey gang

    hope yer all well

im 25, 175cm tall, and reasonable fit.

I cycle loads, both on my racer and my hardtail mountain bike.

i have recently being having back ache, and am looking at ways of preventing me developing major problems with my back in the furture, by taking up some sport that might make my back stronger.

is there any sports out there that might help?

    thanks very much,
    Ed

How sore is it, and how long has it been sore for? Have you considered seeing a professional?

Generally lifting weights is a great way to strengthen anything. The right lifts can work all the muscles, and strengthen muscle groups that don't get much work in day to day life.

If you have bad pain, get that checked out first. And I'm sure it's too obvious to need saying, but get your bikes checked too. It only need pedals or saddle or handlebars a bit out of line to set up a nasty chain reaction.

I have heard building up your core strength can have a beneficial effect on your back. Yoga and pilates might help..

It's always good to vary your exercise. Rowing should be a good mix with cycling, though it might be an idea to consider something where you are upright with your weight on your feet.
