    Hi All,

I'm looking for a muesli base - just all the flakes oat/wheat etc without any added dried fruit as I would prefer to add my own fresh fruit. Preferably no added sugar, preservatives etc

    Thanks,
    Kaz

    Ehhh, porridge?

As far as I know muesli is normally just rolled oats, fruit and nuts.

I thought muesli was a combination of lots of grains - wheat flakes, rolled oats, rye flakes, barley kernels, wheatgerm with seeds/nuts/fruit but porridge is just oats?

your best bet is to go into a health food shop, they usually will sell a muesli base or they will sell the individual items on their own. It is quite expensive to do it, but it is easy to bulk out so it would last you longer.

I would base it on oats, and leave out wheat unless you really want it. Check out health food shops for other grains you like, but oats is fine.

By the way, in Switzerland, they soak oats in milk overnight, then add grated apple, nuts and cream and serve it as a dessert called Bircher Muesli.

I tried some health food shops but I didn't see any all-in-one base, I'm trying to avoid buying them all separately because my kitchen space is very limited!

Mostly ots, sometime the others appear, but oats are defo the best of the lot.
You want it to be mostly oats.
Store bought has a lot of sugar added.

Buy a decent container. One the size of a corn flakes box would hold a few KG, you'll probably go smaller.

1kg of oats, hand full of dried fruit, small few nuts and you set.
This way you can also work out the kcal before, and taylor it to how you want it with +/- fruits and nuts
