I met a girl in a nightclub one night, and we ended up going back to her place. She went into the kitchen to get us drinks, and I went into the living room to wait for her. I realised she was a ban-guard when I saw a picture of her in her uniform hanging on the living room wall!!

I had a wrap of MDMA in my pocket, and had been just about to offer her some, thank Christ I didn't!!

She came back into the room with the drinks, I told her I was going to the toilet and did a runner out the front door......

Learning her profession definitely changed my view........

Yes - they don't broadcast in 405 lines anymore!

Also the transformers don't have a 6.3v output for the heaters.

good question/thread if you ask me!!!!

Depends, if they are likely to know more about a topic than I do, I'd listen to what they say.

Generally people like that, don't shout to the roof tops about their qualifications.

Any chance you missed out on a great night with a stripper ? ;)

I'm OK with anyone regardless of their profession, as long as it's not a politician or a banker, or someone vastly overpaid who reckons that's reason in itself to give them some unearned respect.

Why would my opinion of someone change once I found out their level of education/profession? Some of the stupidest thickos I know are educated to Masters/PHD level ffs!

If someone who is a stupid thicko, as you put it, has the dedication and self-discipline to get a PHD, despite their shortcomings, then maybe your opinion of them should change?

I dunno, I think a lot of intelligence has to do with common sense, if not the most part. I know people who have gotten firsts who I literally had to show how to wash dishes, change the water when its dirty etc

And the national school teacher who got the a great leaving who one day asked me where Islam was...

Of course that doesn't make them thick, just like someone who failed the LC but is fantastic as whatever non-academic profession they've chosen isn't thick

Fact is if you judge then you're a d1ck imo (not addressing that to you btw)

bullsh*t everyone judges.....your line smacks of sanctimonious nonsense!

we all judge and make assumptions about people, its how we figure each other out...its natural!!! (and it's not a negative thing either).

yeah well if they're a dick you're well entitled to judge
But if someone is a doctor or a plumber or a soldier or a binman you don't know them and cannot assume you do. BS imo

Good stuff, except common sense is often over rated as well! Think of social intelligence. That means relating to wimminz and where does common sense come into that? :p

Put it to you this way, in our PC world. You know someone, like the, and find out there gay. Does that change your opinion?

Same if you know someone and like them, then find out they work in they're a lawyer. Does that change your opinion?

Either one of those things, sexuality or profession or hobbies or whatever the f*ck, are just one of a small part that makes a person

your entitled to change your opinion on someone based on hearing what they do...changing your opinion is not a negative thing, people keep jumping to conclusions in this thread that it is...f*ck sake!
so your saying if you met someone and they said they were a doctor, plumber, soldier or binman your opinion wouldn't change....oh course it would...certain realisations come with knowing what someone does/is capable of, intellectually, financially, practically, personally etc..., & no you may not know them but occupation, abilities etc. are large parts of peoples lives, learning these helps learn about the person..it is a relevant element...and we do judge..even if you are indifferent to most ordinary occupations there will be others that will make people think more positively or negatively.
but of course people that judge are dicks...c'mon man..

Fair enough, we might be differing in levels of judgement, all I'm saying is that people shouldnt have pre-conceptions of what someone is like based on their profession. Ie, you're not a bit thick if you're a bin man, and you're not a stuck up master of the world if you're a surgeon. Thats what I think the thread was getting at, judging someones personalities because of what they do. Of course it mightn't be prudent to entrust your yearly accounts to a carpenter (but doesn't mean you can assume they can't do them either, some people just do a job because they enjoy it)

Are you a gay lawyer Slasher?

im not going to watch it coz its 8 mins long, however i'll judge that its about someone making a first impression judgement on someone else and being surprised & overwhelmed by amazing abilities demonstrated sometime later which were in contrast to the initial impression made.

All that story tells us is that we all judge and when we get it wrong or a person has hidden talents out opinions change more positively. this actually demonstrates that we all judge...if someone can demonstrate an ability through their occupation our reaction will be positive, whether this ability is communicated sooner or later, in contrast if they cant, then they will perhaps not evoke any positive reactions..
    get it?

Actually, I'd like to elaborate a bit further on this. When I was growing up, yeah, someone's profession probably would have impressed me a good bit. Then, as I got older, I learned what people doing all the important jobs in life are really like. Not so perfect. And how all the important/influential jobs in life are done is not so perfect, either, and sometimes they're done really badly. That's what I mean by judging the profession. There are still lots of important professions out there that deserve to be done to a high standard.

No, Jay Leno gave a lift to some guys he thought were gangsters, instantly regretted it, especially when they told him to drive up to the mountains, got really scared, they turned out to be cops.
