Part 2 tomorrow. Judging by the preview clips, it seems the budget for this one went into the second part - on all the SFX and the Silurian extras anyway.

I've actually been waiting for this post, it's become part of my weekly routine :)

Time's changed again tomorrow. Very annoying. Missed the start of last week's because it started at 6:15. At least 7pm will probably be more convenient for me.

Why more annoying time changes  And it runs straight into the Eurovision which means I can't stay veging on the couch!

    oh crap

    That was actually stunning

and a proper event with the crack too

Holy crap, did not see that coming!

What a great ep! Didnt think it would be as good but it really was!

I agree with the above poster about next weeks episode. Well I thought that about this weeks and I was proved wrong :P

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,759 ✭✭✭Killer_banana

Don't have much time so I'll keep this short, good episode, very good but
I am furious that they've killed off Rory. I'm guessing it's to do with whatever the Doctor does to cause the cracks and also Amy's history being changed, meaning she forgot Rory even though she's a time traveller probably has some plot significance but I'm still angry. He seemed to actually be gaining a personality and character traits now and I liked having two companion stories again, it was one of the things I missed from the classic series. I really really hope that this has major plot significance 'cause if it was needless I'll just be more angry. *fangirl*

    As for next week
can we please have at least one non-earth adventure.

    Who is Rory?

I think the series is building up to a huge finale!
I'd put money that the doctor will get rory back! The bit were he pulled out the piece of the TARDIS was spine chilling!!!
Whats going on?!?!?!?!? Next weeks does look p*ss though

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 695 ✭✭✭Banjo Fella

That was absolutely mind-blowing stuff. B-but...
I can't believe they could kill Rory off. For the second time within the space of three episodes, no less. I really hope the Doctor can undo the cracks somehow, and stop him from being erased at the very least... those few memories you saw of him and Amy were so sweet. :(

    Also,
the TARDIS explodes? Or is caught in the cataclysmic wedding explosion? The cracks are getting extra confusing now, but even more fascinating along with it!

So annoyed that the screwdriver's magical gun-disabling ability conveniently didn't resurface in the last ten minutes.

And by the way... perhaps the piece of ''shrapnel'' is
    an ordinary 1960s police box?

LOVED this episode. I'm usually disappointed by the ending of two parters. But damn. DAMN. Amazing, and loved the twists!

The Doctor was about to use the screwdriver when rory tackled him out of the way, or at least that's what i thought.

Great episode... I had kinda suspected that something would happen to Rory and in this instance I'd be happy for a Deux Est Machina scenario to undo it... Great companion and worked well alongside both Amy and the Doctor...

Anyone else think the female Silurians were pretty hot? Even with the scales, I would...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,367 ✭✭✭✭Sleepy

Really enjoyed how Rory finally seemed to be getting some confidence in both himself and the Doctor this episode.
Let's just hope the confidence isn't totally misplaced!
    .

The cracks are getting to an almost Lost-like level of intrigue and confusion, reckon the series finale is going to be brilliant!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,085 ✭✭✭✭Stark

They should have chucked Resnec into the crack after she shot him. That would have solved everything.

erm.......... I think there comes a point when a person has to ask themselves... do I watch too much Sci-fi? When you start fancying reptile aliens I think you've crossed the threshold! I recommend some sex and the city, and desperate housewives :)

Or y'know *cough* there's some stuff on the internet you could look up...

So many people are saying Rory will come back but I cna't see it happening. I really hope he does but for some reason it just doesn't seem likely to me. Then again I don't think it's the last we've seen of the engagement ring and we know the cracks and finale involves their wedding day (or what would have been their wedding day) so maybe. I just hope if he is brought back that's it's in a credible way.

Also, not sure why but I have a feeling
    Jenny
will show up soon but I have no basis for that. It's just a feeling.

Warning this is a real spoiler. it aint speculation:
So many people are saying Rory will come back but I cna't see it happening.
He is, he is credited in the last episode. That could be a flashback, or a dream, but read into it what you will.

I read that as 'this is not a real spoiler, this is speculation'

I am surprised by the positive reactions to this episode. I found it quite boring and samey that the humans are bad and act badly to stop world peace. It was done better the first time when the Brig nuked the Silurians at the end of the Jon Pertwee episode.

I was wondering before the episode what would be happening with Rory as he was never pushed as a real companion. It seems he was merely a "red shirt" to push the crack arc along a bit.
For me it was a very unsatisfying episode the only good point was the bit of shrapnel from Amy's Crack(as another poster put it).

Yeah but as the Doctor said some moments are fixed and can't be changed but others can. Also when they returned to the hill it was only 'future Amy' standing alone, for all intents and purposes, Rory's future self had never been there.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,633 ✭✭✭✭murpho999

Why do people put stuff that happened in the episode in spoilers?
It makes the thread very annoying to read.

Surely people come into this thread having seen the episode and only future plot lines (not speculation) should be in spoiler tags.

Thought it was a good episode. Don't think Rory is really dead. Very interesting about the crack, looks like that's building up to an epic story.

Next weeks episode looks meh. Why does the Dr with a Tardis and a whole universe out there in his hands always end up in contemporary earth and usually in Britain? Guarantee next weeks episode has Van Gogh with a British accent.

Man I hate seeing so much spoilered text and wanting to look at it but knowing I shouldn't. Still at least it's better than reading it 'accidentally'

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 537 ✭✭✭angelll

The very second rory said 'I would trust the doctor with my life' i knew he was going to die....I even said it just after.Only finished watching a minute ago,had it recorded. Poor rory,i way preferred him to amy. And she said 'get out of the way you idiot' when they were running near the end .
I don't know if any of this world exists...whether amy has made it all up and the doctor is trapped in it...that's why his own dream doctor came out? It was a clue? Subconsciously he knows that something is wrong?

My problem is I watch the episode, think it's safe to read through all the spoilered text and then end up uncovering a spoiler for a future episode.

Better to have "*spoilers*" in the thread title (for people who don't realise that people might actually be talking about an episode just aired in the thread for that episode) and use the spoiler tags for future episodes imo.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,414 ✭✭✭✭flazio

I'm not going to put this in spoiler text because this is just my speculation on what has come before, but the fragment of the Tardis that the Doctor holds at the end, means that Tardis does go boom but perhaps we've already seen it happen, what if it's the boom that happened when the Doctor regenerated?

    This too shall pass.

A friend of mine pointed out that it was good that we got to see how Amy reacted to Rory's death in the Dream Lord episode. It showed how she really, truly loved the guy.Having seen that it's heartbreaking to see her forget him.:(

A great episode though.I'm new to Dr. Who and I love it!

Oh the same actress played both the sisters.

I quite liked this, liked the twist, liked the crack, although it didn't barrell along as some episodes do. Solid good storyline stuff.

I thought she actually said 'Wrong way you idiot' as they were running one way and he was running back towards them. I took it as more affectionate than anything else to be honest.

Anyhow, this episode just really proved I'm not getting into this season as much as I hoped. Unfortunately I was pretty 'meh' during most of it. I'll definitely watch the full season and see how it goes. Have a suspicion that Rory might be brought back, but we'll see!

Just watched it last night & I thought it felt very "blah" throughout: the threat never seemed very large, again pointing back to the reduced circumstances in which the story was set. With the voice-over I also thought there'd be some sort of coda set 1000 years in the future, it all seemed to be building that way.

Having said that, it was still a very dark tale with no happy resolution. I can't honestly believe they got away with a human character electrocuting someone to death. That whole subplot with the mother & the fallout of her actions was heavy, adult stuff. A bit soap-opera, but again is a big leap from previous New Who.

And then of course they do that to Rory. Rory! He was such a loveable idiot & really growing into a proper character. I do believe he'll be back though, he was too pivotal a character & surely Moffat wouldn't be so callous as to (literally) wipe his existence from the show without any affect on Amy (I thought we'd see something made of the engagement ring Rory left on the TARDIS console).

Oh and as for the piece of burnt TARDIS found in the gap? Ha, I totally called that iirc: I thought the Doctor would have a part to play & figured only something like a TARDIS could cause that much of a universal fook-up.

I know it was a minor enough thing but I can't think why the engagement ring still exists. The Doctor obviously made a point of pocketing it before Amy saw it but why was it even still in the Tardis once Rory ceased to exist?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 322 ✭✭Apolloyon

I would imagine the TARDIS is automatically protected from changes in the timeline. Time Lord tech and all that.

I presume it's because it was in the TARDIS and somehow outside of space-time events? If the Doctor was able to stick his hand in there without any harm coming to him, then it seems Time Lords & their technologies are not affected. I definitely think that the ring will play a part yet in the denouement.

To be honest I've been loving this season, but I agree that this episode was flat for the most part, it only really got interesting when the crack appeared, so I don't think it was just you on this one.

Anyone think that Amy remembering Rory is related to the Finale and to the "continuity error" when the Doctor came back to Amy in Flesh and Stone wearing a jacket.

    Remember what he said.
Amy. You have to remember. Thats the whole point. You have to remember.

Maybe in the finale Amy remembers Rory from the engagement ring and tries to go save him and ends up blowing up the Tardis and causing all the cracks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,924 ✭✭✭✭BuffyBot

It sagged in places, and had bits of contrived dialogue but it wasn't the worst episode. Hated the music when the soldiers marched into the negotiation chamber. It just seemed too much.

Quite liked Meera Syal's character - think she'd make an interesting future companion. There was good chemistry between her and Matt Smith.

  • Moderators, Entertainment Moderators Posts: 18,004 Mod ✭✭✭✭ixoy

Maybe it was the fact that I was tired but I wasn't particularly overwhelmed by this either, up until the last five minutes. The pacing didn't get me and the Silurians just looked too human - c'mon bring the old guys back!

I did like the fact that the Doctor put his faith in humans and they serious screwed up. A couple of years I reckon we'd have had DT shouting about how humans are BRILLIANT as they saved the day. Not here - they brutally let him down.

As to Rory - I really liked him. What they did was mean. Part of me wants it undone but another part thinks that'd be too easy. Having Amy forget like that was far harsher than when they had Donna just forget her adventures with only the Doctor keeping the memories.
There's some very interesting theories as to how this will all play out - I'm almost tempted to stop reading them in case people get too close to the truth!

Yep me too. One of the first guest characters since Sally Sparrow that I could see as a fitting companion for the Doctor.

I wasn't crazy about the whole two parter either.

I found the majority of the characters to be quite unpleasant.

Thought it was particularly stupid how all of a sudden we were supposed to see the Silurian doctor in a sympathetic light after we were already shown how he was perfectly happy to perform vivisections on sentient beings.
