World Cup 2010 Tipster Challenge

Okay, I've decided to create a Challenge to see who can get the most profit over the World Cup period. I welcome anybody to join on the condition that the rules are adhered to.

- Each person will start with 10 points.

- Bets can be outrights, accumulators etc. or any available market on matches, but there is no betting in running allowed.

- Each person must reference the exact odds and where they were obtained for each bet.

- If you lose your 10 points, your out.

- No after-posting under any circumstances.

I hoped to use 10 points as it is a relatively low number which enhances the challenge. Furthermore, one will have to decide whether it is better to bet on outright bets at larger odds or to bet on matches throughout the World Cup. I am personally very interested in which makes a bigger profit.
Each persons money equivalent of one point is their own business, unless they wish to say it.

I hope that many of you decide to join in the fun... its a good alternative source of added interest in the world cup

If anybody is a member of boylesports, I would recommend to enter the predictions competition for €1,000,000. While it is obviously extremely unlikely that you or I would win, it helps when plotting out the teams who will progress and how far. Usually with World Cup betting I pick a team without realising who they may have to play and when.

I'll be very busy during the world cup but I'll try to pop into the thread here and there with some selections.

Just a few questions:

1: Do you want reasoning or just straight out selections?
2: Will you be recording results yourself?
3: Maybe put a bet limit/day max in to make it easier on yourself and also to make it fairer (maybe 2 per day)?

If you want to provide reasoning, then be my guest. I actually encourage it... I really enjoy reading some peoples analysis. But reasoning is not a must. If you dont want to include reasoning then it isn't going to be frowned upon though.

I will record the points total after every individual stage eg group stage, second round etc.., but this would be helped if people could include their points total with every bet.

I wont be applying a bet limit as I feel that the 10 points is a way of making it fair. One has to figure out whether to go fully with outrights, partially with outrights or not at all. That decision in itself should be very interesting.

With regards the 5 euro, it wouldnt be an option unless everybody who will be participating agreed by 00:01 on Thursday so I dont think that is a feasible prospect. You are more than welcome to organise private ones, but since there most likely wont be complete uptake from the entire thread, it might be best to do it elsewhere. Bearing that in mind, if you dont do it elsewhere I wont tell you to leave the thread or anything, but if it wasn't too much bother then it would be appreciated.

Yes. Anything, accumulators on anything, corners markets, first to be yellow carded, you name it.
If you provide the odds and where they were obtained then no problemo.

But, the one thing that is definetly banned is Betting in Running on games.
I dont mean betting on Spain to win the competition if they are in the Quarters, but if Spain were playing France and in the 65th minute it was 1-1, then you cannot do something like Over 2.5 goals.

Ill start things off in 2 hours by posting up my first bets, which people will probably be skeptical of:D

Okay, Ill agree with that. I'll display the formula for posting eash bet when I open the competition with the first one in under 2 hours.

I'm going to have listed out all involved before I post my first bet, so could everybody sit tight on selections until I give the all clear

Bet 1 = France to win the World Cup outright - 20/1 w/Jameson Racing - 2 points win

Closing Bank = 8 points
In Play = 2 points

*Could everybody follow this structure please, the reasoning isn't essential though*

It eliminates the need to edit posts as was mentioned earlier. If you want to update profit/loss and don't have an upcoming bet, create a new reply.

Im being given far too much credit at 7's, more like 50's!! haha:D;) after seeing my first bet ill be drifting like a barge

Do you have to use all your initial 10 points bank over the tournament?
Lets say someone only bets 1 point throughout and finishes on nine and it's a winning score.

Thats perfectly fine. But highly unlikely all the same considering the amount of people
