Been looking at this receiver for my next project of my hobby (Lan connection!)

http://opticum.tv/?cmd=select&subcmd=1258983939389620

Seems to tick all the boxes, very popular in eastern europe and Germany, so very hard to find English feedback on forums for it (Google translator doesnt like Forum websites!)

Very reasonably priced for an HD machine that has both DVB-T/DVB-S tuners.

As low as €145 in some European outlets.

If anyone has any feedback/experience id be keen to hear it. From what i can make out on German forums, its very well supported and seems to do all it says it can. Only downside for me at moment is that it doesn't play avi files yet from a USB drive.

Emm, ive read that the DVB-T tuner is only mpeg 2 and not Mpeg 4?

The other baby thats caught my eye is the new Edision argus VIP 2 HD (DVBs/t model)

If it's a plug-in tuner, there maybe a chance of an mpeg4 alternative.

There's no such thing as an MPEG2 tuner or MPEG4 tuner.

The tuner only demodulates the signal i.e. DVB-T. As the receiver already has video decompression chips for satellite HD, then it should also work for MPEG 4 DVB-T transmissions, unless the firmware is seriously crap.

hopefully Mike1 will put us right when it arrives!

Well it finally arrived, i can confirm that dtt works ok on this stb although im only picking up 2 stations but thats due to my areial i'd imagine.

Its not a bad box overall for the price I paid €149 plus del for it, the features of this box works fine (share) very easy set up, upgrade channel lists, firmware and share lines/keys by USB in seconds.

I would say though that the pictue quality on HD channels is not the best and left me a little(only a little!) disapointed to be honest, I get a better quality thru my pc on things like BBC HD and ITV HD and thats with standard DVBs card. I had been looking to upgrade for the HD channels on the cheap and this box certainly does that, along with the dvb-t tuner I'd say its a good price plus I think If i decide to sell it I would get my money back less delivery which was €20. All in all it does the job fine but nothing spectacluar! hence in the price!

Yes good for the price. Another of the many combo's out there for DVB-T/DVB-S2 using the STi7101 chipset which is MPEG4 H264 level and will process the streams for both (as Apogee has already explained).

Globo make them. You will also see it as a Orton 9600 TS in the eastern block countries.

Support is the key though.

Question for mike1
Can this receiver allow you to record from sat and watch DTT at the same time and vice versa?

From looking at the back of the box it seems to have a twin tuner, so I think you can record/watch at the same time.

However, as sat and DTT are technically different types of streams, (AFAIK) I wouldn't hold out much hope, that you can record sat/watch dtt.
You probably have to choose one system and record/watch that.

You can't assume that, there are a good few Combo boxes out there, only a handful can watch from one tuner while recording from the other, I was hoping to find out from someone who had first hand experience of this receiver.

Only been playing around with it for a short time but doesnt seem to allow recording sat while watching dtt or vice versa.
Or at least havent been able to make it. DTT channels disable when in sat and vice versa.
While recording DTT you can cycle through the DTT channels only but cant view ,
While recording sat you can only cycle through the sat channels and view those on same polarity and bouquet it appears.
Record quality is good
Lots of other stuff I havent triied out yet

The follow up to this box is the optibox alligator. Its a linux box and does dtt as well. Hot swap tuners and wifi. They are just as cheap. NO Support at present.

@gt60. If you want a combo that allows record off dtt watch sat and vice versa well the ferguson ariva combo does that 160/170 here. They will also play mkvs and avi's. The firmware for the media side is due out (its already out for the sat only version of the ariva).

Interesting, any idea if Shoutcast support is planned? Or if HE-AAC audio is/ could be implemented? I've had no response from Ferguson on that subject...

Yeah thanks STB, that's what I had decided on anyway, see the thread here http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056055938

I have found one for 152 delivered from Satskelp, know anywhere cheaper?

Well there is a recent Beta release of firmware out for the Ariva 200 which is the sat only version I gather (dont try this on the combo!).

I am sure a version for the combo will be along if not out there already (I didnt look into as I was just checking one out a mate bought).

Software version V2 brings up new funcionality:

1. Shoutcast based internet radio service.

Internet radio playback depends on network connection speed
and stability.

Note that some of servers can be full when trying to access
them, in this case radio will not be played. The maximum number of
simultaneous listeners allowed depend on server settings.

2. Recognized multimedia file extensions are listed below.
Not all files with those extensions are playable - some files may
include not supported codecs and/or settings (for example divx).

- Audio files: mp1, mp2, mp3, mp3 Pro, ogg, flac, wav (PCM only)

- Video files containers: avi, mkv, mpeg, mpg, ts, mp4, dvr (the default recordings format)
|
|-> video codec supportet in containers: H.264 (up to 8 RF)
|-> audio codec supported in containers: mp3, aac, ac3

- Images files in formats: bmp, jpeg, jpg

@gtg60- I'm sure there are cheaper places. Tony at satellite.ie and Michael@freesat sell em. €169 there. Is there a boards discount ? Check with them.

Drifted OT, I know..
I see where you're coming from. I had a good look at the 100E for a neighbour, my feeling is that the combo is quite different from the sat only Arivas - different OSD, firmware progressions different, we'll see, I'm not holding my breath for more media playback on the combo.

Hi

On the Opticum HD TS 20
I cannot seem to find an option on the satellite tuning page to tune free channels only. Does any one know if it can do this
