Does anyone know the best way to convince your local council / community group / residents association to install outdoor fitness equipment?

It's not that expensive relative to the use it would get... good bang for the buck in that regard...

Including installation and surfacing etc, it's probably around €10-12k including VAT per site... We just need buy in from those who ultimately have the insurance I suppose...

    Hi Taxable,

You're close to the mark on the price but councils etc are broke at the moment.

So you have to hit the people with influence hard.
    Do the work for them.

    Get some quotes, suppliers.
Get local support, schools, youth groups etc,
Show the councillors how awesome they will be regarded if they do it. Votes etc.
Make it real - show them photos of Outdoor Fitness Areas being used.
Have the knowledge - background read e.g. ESRI reports on physical activity in Ireland etc. so you can throw facts about the benefits at them.

Cabinteely is a perfect example of what can be done on a budget.
To be fair you would only need half the stations they use to have a decent workout. Dip station, monkey bars, pull up bars etc.
If you need photos, suppliers etc chuck me a pm.

Good luck and keep us updated.

Hi Zamboni - thanks for that...

It's heartbreaking in a way, when you see the money that's wasted in other areas... People need something that's "inclusive" rather that "exclusive"...

    We'll keep pushing.

...off that topic a bit: A national exercise routine would cheer up the whole nation a bit! :-) People might feel that life is hard at the moment, but they need to feel that they aren't alone! Health is still the most important thing!

On this topic, where else in Dublin has this type of equpiment been installed?

i've seen the pieces in Clontarf, what is there in Cabinteeley? Anywhere else?

Never seen the ones in Marlay Park though. They must have been scrapped.

Actually might head down and check out Deer Park at the weekend. I haven't seen these before.

    Monkey Bars.
    A couple of pushup bars
Three pullup bars of varying height
Some peculiar thing that looks like a railed walkway.
    A stand of parallel bars
    Stretching stations

Bold indicates something that I thought was actually useful.
