    Is holding in your gut good for your abs ?

    Im guessing good if your actually tensing the muscles for a sustained period

    Guessing here also, but I think it may well be good, definately can't see it being bad.

    If you sit, stand and/or walk with correct posture, then your abs are naturally engaged.

    But by far the best thing is to ahve a healthy diet and lifestyle where there si no "Gut" to have to hold in :D

    i remember going to a physion who said that holding in while breathing normally was good gentle core activation......which was really good only i was there for a hamstring:p...silly girl

    not sure what equipment you are using but last week while using the machine with the straps over your shoulder and you pull you knees up to your chest the instructor came over to me and said to let the straps just rest on the top of your shoulders do not pull them all the way down and hold your stomach in

    Another alternative would be eat less and stop using silly machines. :)

    I think the primary reason to hold your gut in is to support your back when your lifting weights,i'm open to correction on this but i think thats what i was told about it.
