    Morning:)Can you please helppppppp???

    For the past 5 months I have done weight training about 4-5 times per week. I am finally starting to see my body change...
    my bum/legs and arms are starting to look more defined and toned:D Now, I would like to introduce some Cardio into my routine, maybe 2 spin classes per week. I have been advised against this by a personal instructor that I know. He told me to run on a threadmill instead of doing a spin class, he said spin bulks up your legs and wears down the muscle you have previously built. In the past I did really enjoy doing spin so I would prefer to go back to them as my cardio.. But I am totally confused :o I dont want to go back spinning and risk wearing down the muscle I have spent so long toning up??:mad:??

    This^^How can it bulk up your legs and 'wear down' muscle?makes no sense, I think you'd be fine with spin classes. Look at the tour de france riders, you don't see them with bulky legs, cycling with not bulk up your legs to any amazing degree.

    no spinning won't bulk up your legs, it may help with changing body composition (given the appropriate exercise intensity and food intake) and your legs may appear more defined ("toned")... you'll only bulk up your legs with leg work like squats, lunges, deadlifts etc...

    If the OP is a girl it's highly unlikely that squats and deadlifts or lunges will 'bulk' her up. And no OP, spinnings definitely not going to do it!

    You should list up your weights program, there are loads of experienced posters(some who are trainers) here who could advise you but it would be easier for them if they knew exactly what you're doing at the moment.

    the point i was making was spinning wouldn't (glad we agree :)) but to bulk up would require weight training... that was the quick point i was making... to correct a misconception about Spinning...

    you're spot on the 'bulking' will be dependent on many factors... the person, the right routine, the right nutrition, the right periodisation, the right amount of recovery, what their definition of 'bulk' is, etc... list could go on... but then it wouldn't be a quick point anymore and undoubtedly someone would be waiting to call me out on one of the things i didn't include (gotta love this Forum for that!) :(

    to the OP keep up the Spinning, and try to use a facility with qualified instructors who teaches it right; using Profiles based on Endurance, Strength, Interval, Race Day and Recovery [Ref Spinning Energy Zones Handouts] so you can choose the appropriate class for the training you are looking for... and remember you are in control of the resistance and intensity... enjoy :)

    )

    Ah I get you now. I just hear so many women say they'd 'bulk up' if they were to use weights, and it wrecks my head bigtime. You're right though, depends on your definition.
