America's unhealthiest drink- a 2,000 calorie milkshake

As far as Im aware the recommended daily intake odf calories for men is 2,500 and women 2,000. This milkshake on sale is 2,000 calories in one go- they say its the same as eating 68 rashers !

    http://www.independent.ie/health/latest-news/americas-unhealthiest-drink-is-a-2000-calorie-milkshake-2195477.html

A 2,000-calorie milkshake that is the equivalent of eating 68 rashers of bacon has been named the worst drink in America.

Just one drink equals the recommended daily total calorie intake for women and falls only just short of the 2,500 daily allowance for men.

The Cold Stone PB&C is made with chocolate ice cream, milk and peanut butter. It contains 2,010 calories, 131 grams of fat - 68 grams of which is saturated - and 153 grams of sugar.

It topped the Men's Health 20 Worst Drinks in America 2010 list, beating a McDonald's Triple Thick Chocolate Milkshake to the post.

"In terms of saturated fat, drinking this Cold Stone catastrophe is like slurping up 68 strips of bacon," the magazine report found.

"Health experts recommend capping your saturated fat intake at about 20 grams per day, yet this beverage packs more than three times that into a cup..."

Jamie Oliver, the chef who recently made a television programme about tackling unhealthy eating habits in America, said: "There are no words."

The drink is sold in Marina Del Rey, California - where most local residents are known for their health conscious diets - and is most popular with tourists.

Christopher Fields, 45, from Hammond, Indiana, said: "It's delicious. I would definitely have it again."

When told how many calories the drink contains he said: "I don't care.

"I'd drink it without difficulty. I'd probably have it once a week."

The Eat This, Not That Men's Health column claimed the second worst drink in America is the Peanut Power Plus Grape from Smoothie King. A large cup is worth roughly 1,500 calories.

The McDonald's Triple Thick Chocolate Shake comes in third. A large cup of that is worth 1,160 calories or the equivalent of 13 McDonald's apple pies.

Anyone know where you could get one of these bad boys in Ireland ?!

Sounds easy enough to make, throw some chocolate icecream, milk and peanut butter into a blender for a minute and there ya go. You could make it more calories by adding a small amount of oil, maybe 50ml (which is like 350 calories) and you wouldn't even notice the taste of it in a large shake.

This place is opening up shortly on dame street - they basically mix together icecream and chocolate of your choice.

    Peanut butter in a milkshake?
    It sounds horrible.

I looked up their website - it sounds like a great place to work
Why do the crew members sing when they receive a tip?

The "Entertainment Factor" is meant to lend a fun, festive atmosphere in our stores and to set us apart from the competition. We seek out crew members who like to perform and we audition in addition to interviewing them. That way, they know that the Entertainment Factor is a job requirement before accepting a position with Cold Stone Creamery. In fact, many of our crew members enjoy the singing so much they create their own songs.

    I also found a blog warning about the dangers of the shake & recommends instead;
Next time you go to coldstone and you want a really big cold drink get the Gotta Have It Blueberry Banana Smooty it’s only 616 calories.

Yep - only 616 calories. Sure, have 2 while yer at it, fatty.

I can't find any pricing information for the shake, but it's got to be cheaper than 68 rashers.

I'd prefer this shake - a big lump of ice cream & 60 rashers. Probably the same calories & a lot more meaty.

Had a smoothie with peanut butter, not the worst but far from the nicest either

What I want to know is what size of a drink this is...they probably put in a whole jar of peanut butter and a tub of ice cream

Surely a pint of strictnine or a shot of pure nicotine would be Americas most unhealthy drink??

I'd try it once jut to say I had done it. At least with that you know how many calories are in it so you can compensate. Get it and a salad and go to bed early.

Obviously one a week might not be a great idea.

That said, I just looked up online and there is about 180 calories in a pint of guinness. 10 of them in a night out(not beyond the realms of fantasy) and its 1800 calories.

Bit of a non story if you ask me.

Ah good old Cold Stone! I think since I will be in that area next week I might stop in to try it out. Surely that 2000 calorie milkshake is for the super size rather than a regular size.

I will also tip them a dollar because watching them have to sing is great!

Homeless people should eat it.. Has to be the best calorie to dollar ratio going.

Not a big fan of peanut butter, dont think it would be to good in a milkshake.
That being said, id like to see it or even go to the shop if i was in the region.

It's an unfortunate fact of life that unfeasibly calorific snacks in America have gone downhill since Elvis made that fateful trip to the toilet.

If you only drink half of it, it's half the calories, so you can have twice as much!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 57,368 ✭✭✭✭walshb

The daily amounts recommended for men and women are IMO a little low.

I mean, I would say it is quite easy to hit 3000 calories in a day and not even notice it or not feel that you have gorged.

A large Big Mac meal with a drink would see you put away close to 1500 calories. Is this enough to last you a day?

Check out the the Burgers and Steaks in the Link

    My mouth is watering already
IF you thought tucking into a kebab after a few too many, or scoffing a couple of cheeseburgers a week were health hazards, check out these gut-busting treats.

This week Jamie Oliver tweeted his disgust at the most fattening drink on the market, American store Cold Stone's PB&C.
Made with chocolate ice cream, milk and peanut butter it packs a whopping 2,010 calories, 131grams of fat - 68grams of which is saturated - and a massive 153grams of sugar into one carton.
The milkshake contains the equivalent saturated fat of 68 strips of bacon.
But which other dishes currently served around the world tip the scales for scary calories?
From the world's most unhealthy French fries, to a burger worth 8,000 calories - click on the pictures to read about them.

    Don't be ridiculous.
Smoking isn't actually bad for you.

It's just propaganda spread by those unfortunate people who don't quite look as cool as the rest of us while they're smoking...

    Jealous bastards.

This is a great marketing ploy, along the same lines as the heart attack grill.

But you couldn't physically finish this milkshake, the average gall bladder can only produce enough bile to digest 40g or so of fat per meal. After that you get diarrhea.
