Circuit Training?

Hi and I hope this is in the right place!
I've been trying to lose weight and get in more exercise into my day the past few weeks, and as a result of eating more healthily and starting the Couch to 5K programme I have lost 9lb. I met two friends today and we were discussing walking/jogging/running and alternative exercises I could try. I don't have any money really to join gym etc as I am unemployed, but one of my friends mentioned that a local community centre had started circuit training two or three nights a week for €5 a time, and I thought it sounded reasonable in price, but I don't really know what I'd be doing there.
Basically I'm wondering what exactly does circuit training entail, is €5 good value, and how intense a workout would it involve? Also is it an overall body workout or does it target specific areas?
Any help would be great, as I am relatively new to all this, and when I have the weight off that I want, I'd really like to be able to maintain it and stay more toned.
    Thanks!!
