IRL Clan - General Thread

For fear of moving the BFBC2 thread off topic, I've opened us up a general thread for discussing all the games that we are playing...

Like Red Dead Redemption, which you all seem to be stuck into at the moment, except for Garv and I :(

So, the general feedback seems to be that the single player game is excellent and lasts 16-25 hours. That's all well and good and certainly worth renting it out for. However, my concern is that it's multiplayer games that I tend to buy. I've over 200 hours clocked in on BFBC2 and over 1000 on Far Cry 2, so I reckon that's great value for money!

    How good is the multiplayer?
Does it have lasting appeal like BFBC2 (squad based) or Far Cry 2 (user generated maps)?
How do you feel about the control and movement? Is it fluid?

The single player is fantastic. Excellent story, graphics and game mechanics. Can't say too much about MP as there are connectivity issues which are preventing me from joining games. Good fun for the limited time I have been on though. IRL posse anyone?:D

Consider MW2 completely over-rated, although I played it to death until BFBC2 came out. Haven't played Just Cause 2, for some reason it just didn't appeal to me.

Looking forward to Ghost Recon - Future Warrior later in the year, not so much Reach. Was very disappointed with the beta, just the same old Halo multiplayer. If you loved it before you'll love it again, just not for me.

    Breach looks very interesting too.

Red Dead Redemption is great.....Well worth it, we should get an IRL RDR Posse together, Squads are a thing of the past for the moment anyways.

It was a bit distracting last night with all the BFBC2 invites popping up....

    THE CHEEK OF YA!!!!

We'll remember this when you realise the multiplayer is completely broken and come crawling back to BFBC2 when bored of hunting cheetahs ;)

    Yes there is.

First you gotta be at least 45 per cent done in the game. There is a hidden path in the mountains and a little chinese man has a cheetah and an elephant i think he's trying to get to the man who sells the tonic so you kill him kill the cheetah and the elephant and get loads of money.

Na. Just that time. I only paid the main game a bit and then straight into multiplayer and it showed. The only thing i didn't like about the multiplayer is everybody picking on the new guy. But got up a few levels before i joined you just to see what it was like And i was made short work of by you and all those other guys. But thanks for the tips later.

I only played multiplayer in RDR as a private match with the bro, but it was good fun shooting his donkey from under him on a bridge and watching him fall and drown..

Its tough to get the time to play all these games.. a lot of my friends have gotten back into Forza so I'm torn between that, BC2, Fifa and now RDR!

Anyway everybody will be back to bc2 for the onslaught.

Heard on the xbox fancast last night that they're going to charge for it €10-€15 :(

Their actually Cougars. I was trotting along last night on my trusty auld mule and got mauled by 2 Cougars.

Am having serious problems with the multi player since I got the game yesterday. The biggest problem is I was in free roam for about 10 minutes when I first got the game, so I got a taste for how good it is. So now, not getting into free roam is just worse

Hopefully it will be sorted soon enough and we can get an Irish posse together and go linch a few americans in free roam, yee har!

Played a good bit of the red multi last night, really enjoyed it and the shootouts and fist fights to cover the loading screens are class. Repeater pistol is definitely overpowered though, too accurate with a crazy rate of fire. havent tried free roam too much - when i logged in to it just kept getting spawn killed so switched to the matches instead. but if theres an IRL posse forming up count me in (im a cheevo wh*** and proud of it:) )

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,173 ✭✭✭cableguy.ie

Played a bit more of the Free roam multi player red dead last night. Kev joined and he was being picked on by someone and I arrived there and he started shooting me. Dunworth joined as well about the same time but he was a good bit away. We started a posse and just went about exploring for a bit. We started a gold rush match and it turned out to be me and Kev verus Dunworth. After that we started a gang vs gang match which was fun. Later on we had a few knife fights and killed each others horses. Kev went off exploring and myself and Dunworth just randoming killed people to see how long we could survive with a bounty on our heads.
Later some random idiot deciede he didn't like Dunworth and started shooting him so we killed him till he left the session.

Not liking the load times between areas/matches seems long.

I am only just starting the multiplayer so what do people think i should focus on to bring my levels up a bit.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,618 ✭✭✭Mr Freeze

I only played the online for a few hours, I only played in the Free For All games, loving them though, level 13 at the moment.

Didn't really like the free roam, you need a posse to go and take all the gang hideouts.

Some lad was picking on me too in a free roam, Irish Donkey or something his name was. Was in a group and was attacking a gang hideout, and he'd shoot me in the back each time, so started killing him too.

i gave multiplayer a go last night, i really wasnt won over by it. The free roam is a great idea but unless you have a posse there isnt really much point in going it alone, i also played free for all. Found it extremly difficult at first but kinda got into the swing of things after one or two games. probably like most multiplayer games, practice makes perfect. Still havent finished the single player game so i am continuing on with that for the most part.

If anyone is still up for a few games of BC2 i dont mind jumping in for a while, pistol matches are just too much fun to pass up!

Myself and Garv were playing last night. But there was nobody else on and i didn't want to send any invites. Then Zemil joined played and left so when Garv left I played Red Dead.

Oh I have the Kill a rockstar achievement. And i think Kev and Dunwoth should have it as well

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 372 ✭✭JD1763

was lucky enough to pick up the rockstar achievement with my first kill in multi and ive died enough times to pass it around :o

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,401 ✭✭✭Royal Irish

Cableguy the best way to level up on free roam is doing gang hide outs. Your best doing them on your own cause you will get more XP.

I was playing it until 6am thismorning doing gang hide outs with some yank. Yee har!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,618 ✭✭✭Mr Freeze

Must do a bit of free roam today so.

Where are the gang hideouts, are they visible on the map? Can they be done in single player and multiplayer?
    JD1763 wrote: »

Got that with my first kill too!!! Its getting around fast!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,401 ✭✭✭Royal Irish

The first gang hide out I done I just stumbled upon it. The other ones I was just following some american guy sniping him from the hills then he started doing the hide outs and we called a truce to do the hide outs together. I'd say they show up on the map but I was just following the american guy.

The object of the gang hide outs is to take out the gang as quickly as possible to save the whores. They kill one whore every minute or so, and you get XP for every Ho saved.

I dont think there in single player, just free roam. Yee Haar!!!

Has anyone noticed every post of mine regarding Red Dead am signing off with a Yee Har!!

Played BFBC2 and Red Dead the weekend. Whenever I was in the mood for BFBC2 there was nobody else on so played as a lone wolf so I could get my various stats up. Eight stabby kills in one round and one was gold.

Played a bit more Red Dead multi still getting the lay of the land. Found me some bears. The area they are in is not unlocked in single player for me yet so it was the first time I saw them and they are sneaky feckers. Killed one with the gun and all of a sudden another one was right behind me and managed to kill me. Had a few gang games with Dunworth. I like the way that your not always on the same side.

Still dipping in and out of RDR single player. Multiplayer not lighting my fire tbh. Battlefield still the daddy for online gaming.
Whats the next big online game coming down the tracks?
Was reading that the Medal of Honor beta is running from July 5th to 17th. Available to people who pre-order the game from Play.com. The M/P side of it is being handled by DICE so it should be good.
Brink is another game that looks interesting as it combines single and multiplayer with no real line between them. Dont know how this will be done but it sounds interesting.

An outside bet goes to Sniper:Ghost Warrior. Looks like a more tactical approach to sniping. Also has some hardcore sniper on sniper multiplayer action.

Snipers on multiplayer hmmm I don't know. Could be a campfest unless you had some sort of explosive device strapped to you that resulted in you only staying still for a few second.

Waiting on Crackdown 2 myself multiplayer ( yeah)
Loved the first one and it looks like more of the same.

Never got into the any of the Halo games multiplayer and you always end up playing some snot nosed kid from America Who thinks Halo is the BOMB..... Sorry if i offend people but cant seem to get the second B in bomb turned the other way around

    Personaly I like battlefield multiplayer.
Blur is a good laugh on line when you get a few people to play with.
At the moment I am slowly getting into red dead on line.
And every so often MW2 which can be as bad as Halo but I like it.

Back in the day, there was a game called Sniper Elite, and its multi player was surprisingly good, very good in fact.

Yes, it was a camp fest, but it still managed to be great fun with a few mates.

Hopefully Sniper: Ghost Warrior will mimic it, but It might not, it could be too hard to have a sniper only multilayer in lush environments with ghille suits and tonnes of plants to hide in, you might not see a single thing for the whole match.

Here's an interesting release for next year, called HOMEFRONT.

North and South Korea get reunited into the Greater Korean Republic and seize control of most of Asia. The game is set around their invasion of America and you have to battle as a small group of civillians trying to survive.

    Here's a joystiq xbox preview: http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/11/homefront-preview/

That "sniper" game could be a surprise. Will probably have lots of pre-orders but whether it'll last as a multiplayer, only time will tell. All I know is BFBC2 could be a lot safer place to run around with a lot less snipers around :D

What I'm really looking forward to is Ghost Recon: Future Soldier. It'll be squad based, slightly advanced weapons systems that'll probably be used by the military within 10-20 years. Granted, it'll probably be 3rd person but that's never taken away from any of the previous games. Always loved the Ghost Recon multiplayer. My first online experience was with Ghost Recon 2 and Rainbow Six on the original xbox.

I'll probably buy the Medal Of Honor game too. Since Dice are doing the multiplayer, it should be pretty slick.

Also interested in THI4F later this summer. Remember playing the original years and years ago on a PC.

Fable 3 should be interesting with natal intregration.

I'll rent Reach to complete the single player but don't like the Halo multiplayer.

Brink does look slick but I fear it's release date in Q4 could mean it's up against some serious competition.

Of course, Fallout: New Vegas will have to be seriously looked at too.

Have I missed any note worthy games?

I loved Sniper Elite!!! Never got into the multiplayer though. Always hoped they'd bring out a new one on the 360 but they decided against it. I'm sure they'll model this one on that game. They'd be stupid not to, since it was so good.

    Thief..........Greats Games Ever!

The 3rd was a bit of a disappointment compared to I & II, but it still had some great bits.

Hate the title THI4F, what was wrong with Thief 4?

Is it definitely out this summer? That would be class if it was!

That's what I am afraid of. Imagine playing a game for say 8 minutes and not seeing anybody else but every so often checking the score to find out you and almost everybody else has no kills and 1 guy is 50000 points

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,173 ✭✭✭cableguy.ie

Actually wondering what Respawn will do next. Cos i enjoyed both mw.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,618 ✭✭✭Mr Freeze

I'd say you will be awaiting a year or 2 before Respawn have anything, they aren't at E3 this year either.

Sure they are still trying to hire ex-IW people and in the middle of a lawsuit or 2, so we could be waiting a while, it will of course be a shooter, and rumor has it they are trying to acquire the right to the MW series.

Why all the hate for MW2? It's not that bad :-/ I used to ****ing love Battlefield 2 for the PC,is Bad Company 2 anything like it in terms of multiplayer?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 507 ✭✭✭cycocycle

Dont see a lot of hate for MW2. Bought it myself first day and pretty much played it night and day until BFBC2 came out. Excellent online shooter with emphasis on squad tactics and team playover large maps.Such a difference not to be playing "Awesome" or "Gnarly" teens swearing into the mic and generally being annoying little tossers.
Head over to the BFBC2 clan thread and add a few names to your friends list and jump in. You will soon find out who the regulars are. (They will have your tags more than everyone else!)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 507 ✭✭✭cycocycle

Anyone up for some non BFBC2 multiplayer games?
I've started trying out some games that I never went online with and some that I havent played in a while.
Had a crack at R6 Vegas 2 for a while the other day.Forgot how tough it was! Its dated though. No jump,no melee attack and the graphics are slightly ropey. Excellent game though.
Jumped in to a few games of Team Fortress 2.Interesting. Could be fun with clan members.
Still havent gone online with Left 4 Dead 2. That would be a good laugh with people you know.
Got me thinking what other games would be a good laugh with a few clan members in the mix.
Also in the future while we wont all be buying the same games it might make a difference to your purchasing decisions if you knew which games clan members would be getting. E.G. Medal of Honour v COD.
Im also trying to complete some single player games before I buy any more. Assassins Creed 2,Alan Wake and Red Dead still have a good few hours left in them. I barely scratched he surface on Forza 3!
Theres more to life than tag hunting!:D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,162 ✭✭✭TheMooseInNam

Looks like I'll be playing a good bit of Red Dead for the next while but I'm always up for some BFBC2, FC2 or Red Dead

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 13,477 ✭✭✭✭Raze_them_all

Haven really touched red dead since i finished it, but shall see :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 507 ✭✭✭cycocycle

Wasnt impressed with red dead online. Love the single player though. Im still not finished it. Dip in and out now and then.
Id love to try Left 4 Dead 2 with clan members. Tried L4D1 online and it was pretty good except for some, you guessed it,American teens screetching orders at me!
How would a Clan challenge work out? Maybe on several different games. Pick some teams for battlefield and have some private squad deathmatches, races on Forza 3,Gears of war 2 matches etc.
If I was only playing randomers I probably wouldnt play BFBC2 half as much. The banter is half of it so I reckon this could be transferred to other games and give them a new lease of life.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,365 ✭✭✭dunworth1

The free roam multiplayer is pretty boring on Red Dead but the co-op missions are very challanging on expert mode and quite a lot of fun with a few mates.
