I was in a class a few weeks ago printing out some stuff when the printer fcked up,the teacher came over to fix it and then said "Ohh,hmm,I don't know how to do this,I only ever use my mac"

    It's not rocket surgery:pac:

At the end of the day, its a phone. A big gimmicky phone. If I want a map, I will by a map, if I want to call someone, I will use my phone. If I want to play a game, I'll buy the game.

Its like with iPods...cant believe people try tell me they aren't mp3 players. Sorry, but they are. The only difference is that they play ****tier quality music files.

Brings me back to this pic I saw:

I worked in a computer shop a while back, a girl came in to buy a printer, fine baught it and away she went. She was back later to say the printer wouldnt work with her mac. So i said well the printer comes with both a windows and mac osx installation disc, are you sure you tried the one labelled for Mac, I could see confusion set in .
Fair enough she didnt realise the printer needed a driver to install from cd, the funniest was when I found out how the ink cartridges were "installed". She had basicly just lifted the lid of the printer, thrown the cartridges in  and expected it to be able to print?. So I took the machine in and "installed" the printer for her.
The slot loading dvd drive did not work, when I put the osx install disc in it would neither read or eject the disc, when I finally managed to eject the disc it had some sticky substance on it, I'm guessing it was a sticker or something from a cd but I really dont want to know! I got the printer working in the end by downloading the driver for it..
Maybe not all Mac users are thick but this really did make me laugh,

    Nick

Just put it on keypad lock, she'll spend ages trying to unlock it. Only to ultimately fail and will kindly decide to give it to brummy as a present...... :D

Ever notice how crap iMacs are compared to Windows PCs?

The one thing about Macs that annoy is the perception they are somehow better for people in "creative" industries. Photoshops runs on PCs for a lot less with better performance and you also have 10 times as much software.

But it's still a great OS. It's just people who have unfounded loyalty to brands annoy me.

Ever notice how people who own:

    (a) a phone other than iPhone (or a really good Android phone, in fairness)
    (b) a PC

..never get excited about them? Ever had anyone try to convert you to Windows? No?

    There's a reason.

Macs have a great OS, (OSX is a blessing), rarely crash (because there aren't many viruses for them, unlike PCs), and are soooo pretty. PCs have way more software available, are far more open to tinkering (something I miss) but less stable.

    (literally) apples and oranges.

I like my ipod more than any of the mp3 players I've ever had.

Basically itunes is where the difference comes in. Yes, I can dl most if not all of the podcasts etc that are there, but that's hassle. So much easier to just subscribe and hey presto.

Mind you, I don't use it to buy music. I like owning a physical copy of things still, silly caveman that I am.

I loves my ipod, but I wouldn't thank you for a Mac. If you're gonna go with non-open software, may as well use Windows. At least then you can game on it. :D

If you're male and you have any other white electronics, you've caught the ghey.

I'm of two minds on that. I was using a SonyEricson as my phone and mp3 player until Xmas. Was given the ipod and initially turned my nose up at it, didn't even open it until well into Feb.
There's just something about the interface and itunes that I find vastly preferable to using the phone.

Mac OSX renders fonts properly, which is pretty important for anyone working in the print industry.

Better performance? Benchmarks on identical systems favour Mac. Plus Mac is more stable.

Built in tools for stuff like colour metering and zoom just make the workflow so much smoother.

Design is consistent across the whole OS. Creative people care about aesthetics.

    Mac can run Windows natively.

10 times as much software? Designers don't have time to dick around with anything that's not the industry standard.

That said, I use Ubuntu :P

Old argument but i'll throw in my 2cents.. I use Windows in work nd Mac at home. I like the separation between work and play regardless of the Os.

Never seen the problem with iTunes - it plays your music and syncs it to your iPod - what more do people want

But the cost of a similar spec mac and PC are vastly different sometimes the MAC is twice the price and that's just when buying from a shop. If you build your own pc the price difference gets even larger. The mac more stable argument doesn't hold up for me since I can't even remember the last time any OS has crashed on me.

"10 times as much software? Designers don't have time to dick around with anything that's not the industry standard."
If this was true then no new software would ever be used.

It does both badly. Not being able to drag and drop files onto the ipod really annoys me and Itunes is just a bloated mess on windows.

One of the problems with a Mac is that if you want to play a recent game you have to buy a PC to run it properly.
