Premieres June 29th! Thank christ the leaving will be over by then :D

Sorry this is the only trailer I can find obviously recorded off someones camera. Im sure a better quality one will be available soon

I think only half the season airs this year? And the finale is to coincide with the 10 year anniversary of 9/11. I could be wrong about that though but if I'm not, we won't see the end until the Autumn-ish 2011.

Can't wait. Season was 5 was a huge improvement over season 4. I loved it. Hell, it was funnier than most comedy's. And what an ending

Yes, absolutely love it! In fact, that and Entourage are the only two things I like watching these days. Is it back on in the US or over here?

Love this show (& entourage). Leary is currently doing the chat show circuit & it looks like a great season ahead - this one will be short though with just ten episodes & next years will be the last with eleven (they're shooting it all this year)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24 jab1

thats good i max cause last season dragged a bit with the 20 plus episodes, didnt think they could carry it off,but get it back too basics and keep it too less than 12.legend of a show, only started watching it cause my sister kept hounding me about it.did any of you guys see learys roast on comedy central a few years ago it was un believable.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,489 ✭✭✭iMax

Turns out I got it wrong. This year is 12 episodes with 9 in 2011 because he wanted to do 9/11 (according to his Craig Ferguson interview)

Peter Gallagher from The O.C. and American Beauty joins the fireman drama
as a priest in a multi-episode story arc beginning July 13. He counsels Denis Leary's character, Tommy Gavin, who ''has a near-death experience and is really questioning the meaning of life,'' explains Rescue Me co-creator and executive producer Peter Tolan. ''So Peter becomes the person that he goes to looking for answers.''

how many episodes for this season?

10 and another 9 (which have/are being filmed already) making up season 7 in 2011 (so 9/11 which is what they were going for).

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,489 ✭✭✭iMax

Hmmmm.... bot sure I like the sound of this

I hope they don't go for
They all died in 9/11 and the whole series has been a purgatory thing or someone's in a coma or something

Also, can someone merge this thread

    HD ready for tonight :D

They have filmed season 7 already? Bloody hell.
I hope they don't go for
They all died in 9/11 and the whole series has been a purgatory thing or someone's in a coma or something.
If that happens I will lose all the respect I have ever had for Denis Leary.

Little disappointed with last night. Certain setups were obvious -
this season is going to concentrate on Tommy's redemption
, but it was a weak beginning to the series.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,571 ✭✭✭The Don

The first episode didn't hit with as much force as I would have wanted but there is still plenty being setup.

Tommy seeing hell so he has to redeem himself. Help out his family especially Colleen. Saving the firehouse. Getting Damien to quit for 'Joe Pesci with tits' :)

  • Moderators, Entertainment Moderators Posts: 18,004 Mod ✭✭✭✭ixoy

I'm not sure I want to see Tommy fully redeemed - not sure he deserves it. I did like how hard they were on him but it best not be an easy road for him.

I think the episode lacked humour. The only really funny scene was when the guys riled Tommy up and he started forbidding them from helping Janet (particularly liked how Sean got offended at not being barred).

Got the HD season pass on Itunes for $16.99. Watched the first one tonight.
Not sure what to make of it. Doesn't look like he's going to change much.

Got around to watching the latest episode this morning. The whole story involving the other fire house seems to be for comedy reasons only, not a bad thing. I could see the ending with Lou collapsed on the floor coming but not this soon. I hope the don't kill him off as he's the best character on the show along with Garrity.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,116 ✭✭✭starviewadams

Anybody know the name of the song used at the end of the opening episode of season 6 where Tommy's drinking in the church?

    Edit:The Eels Fresh Blood

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,571 ✭✭✭The Don

That was a great episode. Its true that you could see the Lou thing coming and I hope he's not out of the house now. Damien really set his mother straight. I don't think she'll be bothering Tommy as much unless she has a breakdown because of what he said.

The Franco and Janet phone conversations were good. Really winding Tommy up. The rivalry between the 2 Sean's was funny enough for the one liners. White Sean's story for the next few episodes will probably be the cancer charity thing.

I think Tommy will take the Lieutenants exam soon enough. He'll realise he can't keep at it forever. Loved when he decked the other fire houses guy :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,495 ✭✭✭chalkitdown1

I thought this weeks episode was back to its brilliant best. Great banter and some fantastic lines. It's been a while since a whole episode was spent with the crew out answering calls.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,906 ✭✭✭J-blk

Yep, agree with everything said - this was my favorite episode so far this season and it's exactly because a lot of the guys got decent amounts of air time, rather than things focusing on Tommy & family too much. Lou has to make it to the end of the show, I'd be gutted if they kill him now or even take him out of the house completely...

If it was a heart attack the department will put him on desk duty like chief Jerry after he recovers. If that happens then Tommy will step up for the house and become a Lieutenant.

You could see it coming but to see Lou on the floor sent a few hairs on end.

I cant believe that the kid left a person on the floor like that without calling an ambulance, he is in the emergency services himself!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,571 ✭✭✭The Don

Not as good as last weeks but still a good episode. Some good humour and antics. They had Lou almost die to show the difference between Tommy and the rest of the guys. They have done bad stuff but Tommy has just fu*ked everything he touched up. It will take a lot for him to be redeemed. Another door has been shut to his redemption now that Janet tried it on with Franco. I think Franco will stay away from Janet from now on.

I'm not sure where Tommy will eventually find his redemption. Fire fighting is the only thing he really cares about so it'll come down to something involving it.

No word yet if Lou will be able to return to the house but the cook off looks set. Damien and the chick from the other house look like they will hit it off well. Sean has definitely found his cause in fire fighters with cancer.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,571 ✭✭✭The Don

Another great character episode. I don't think we've ever seen Tommy loose it as bad as that. But then again he was poisoned. You could tell something was up when Mickey told Eddie to buy Tommy more drinks.

I thought that they handled the flashbacks from the night before really well. Blurry bits and pieces. Some funny things too like thinking that woman was hot and when they turned up at hers she was anything but :D. They way you see things when your drunk ;)

The search for Colleen didn't seem as intense as it should have been. She was always going to turn up relatively well. Franco and Black Sean seemed to be freaking out most. Janet isn't going to forgive him for this. Sean, Mike and Damien had a decent time looking for her anyway.

The pictures of Tommy in the bra :D

That was my favorite part of the episode, very well done :D. The episode didn't have quite as many funny moments as some (which I'm sure was by design, given the whole gravity of the situation) but it did have some stand out ones like the above (or Black Shawn moisturizing his ass :)).

Yep, was pretty sure they would not kill her off or something - it was already apparent that the death of a child wouldn't get through to Tommy anyway based on his halluscinations where he was blaming Connor for dying but at least this time Tommy did seem to realize more how responsible he was for screwing up. We'll see if this is a turning point for him - we are at the mid-season point already anyway.

That was my favourite episode of the season so far! Franco freaking out when Tommy arrived at the house was great. When Tommy realises he's wearing a thong and the chief walks in:D

This weeks episode had a lot going on. Tommy's baptism of Colleen really worked and now she can't stomach the smell or taste of alcohol. So thats one thing he has fixed now on his way to Redemption. Janet recognised that he really does want to change and although he's taking his own f*cked up way doing it, he means it. The scene in the Italian restaurant was really funny. Tommy asking the waiter what everything meant really reminded me of myself and an Italian person I know and what my thick Irish self would be asking them :D

Dead Conor at the start of the episode upset and his friend who's grown up now working at the restaurant really hit home with Tommy and Janet. I don't think that things have fully gotten to the stage where thew will stay together yet but its a step in the right direction. The importance of family was also there in the firehouse with his speech to black Sean.

They shut down the firehouse pretty fast (and 16 others). the protest wouldn't have mounted to much but it was funny. What will really work in their favour is saving the kids in the school when there was no one else to do it and without proper firefighting gear. The media attention it'll get and public outcry will see Engine 62 open again. Good to see Tommy still firefighting and the guys acting like brothers again.

The Sheila and the priest thing should be funny in the next few episodes. the priests addition to the cast this year was a really great decision not only to redeem Tommy but for the comedy value he provides :D

Dead Conor at the start of the episode

Which somehow managed to lead to a pretty funny outcome: Tommy saying "I love you" while the cop shows up behind him and then the other guy in the cell responding that he loves big daddy too :).

I wonder if Colleen's "cure" will stick though - it seemed she was still very much willing to drink, but is getting physically sick. Which could "wear off" in time.

The school rescue was great and even though the guys did it because they genuinely wanted to help, it was a great idea to film it and will definitely lead to the house been re-opened very quickly.

Father Phil is a great addition to the cast (how funny was it last week as well that he didn't know the correct words for a baptism cause he had only seen "The Godfather" twice? :D) though it's a bit strange to see Peter Gallagher in this and "Covert Affairs" on the same night...

Ya that was really funny :D. There's only 5 episodes left to wrap everything up so I doubt they will have Colleen relapse. But then again it is Rescue Me and anything can go wrong.

Well Engine 62 is back in business. The scene with Needles, chief Feinberg and Dick bird sh1t was fantastic. Needles was brilliant rubbing it in and using the tape to extort the house back.

I can't believe that Tommy was stupid enough to fu*k around with Sheila again after things were working out with Janet. She pushed his buttons but that was the old Tommy. I don't know how Mickey will react now with Janet. That is going to be some interesting meal.

Sean's idea to bring Pat around to his saves was a good one but they really should have vetted them properly. Pat seemed to be at peace with it all anyway when he went. I don't know how Damien was a virgin until now. There have been a few women afair.

That was one of the absolute best scenes in the whole series - the whole thing from start to finish was brilliant. I really love Needles as a character and he fits in with the crew a lot better than Jerry way back in the earlier seasons...

Hilarious stuff around that plotline though: Jedi/Yoda, 12 seconds, 16 seconds :D.

Well they did foreshadow it throught the episode with Damien quitting and the speech the chief gave him.

I doubt they'll kill both of them either. Lou would too big a blow to lose for the last season

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,906 ✭✭✭J-blk

And here's comes the moment where everything turns to sh*t, just like every finale of Rescue Me really... great stuff, even though it was fore-shadowed throughout the episode.

Lou will make it but probably have to quit or at least step back from the action but Damien is definitely dead. Lou could also blame himself for what happened, he was kind of responsible after all.

Season finale next week should be good.

    Ratings for last night:

    Rescue Me (61 minutes)
    - 1.180 million viewers
    - 0.8/1 HH
    - 0.6/2 A18-49

Now i'm not an expert or know it's prevoius weeks ratings, but these numbers seem rather poor. But i guess it's going to end next season anyways so it won't matter.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,103 ✭✭✭seadnamac

I can't say I've enjoyed this season as much as I did the last one. It has had all the great little one liners and comedy that make it a great show but I feel the main story arcs have been done to death at this stage. Tommy trying to give up the drink, giving it up, then falling back off the wagon then giving it up again and his love triangle with Janet and Sheila. I know this is basically what the show is about but I just feel like we've seen it so many times before. And now with Damian it looks like he is going to have to cope with a loss...again.

The whole baptising Coleen thing in alcohol was over the top and almost cringe worthy and not believable and reminded me of Season 4 which by far the worst season because it was full of hard to take serious moments like trying to sell the baby, throwing it off the bridge etc.

This show had always been best when it keeps things simple and focuses on the interaction between the characters in the firehouse.
