If There was a General Election Tomorrow, Who Would You Vote For?

    As the title says!

Poll to follow shortly - unfortunately I cannot list every single political party, so I've tried my best to accomodate as many as possible within the maximum of 25 poll options.

Edit - I almost ran out of options. Some of the parties are not yet registered with the Dail, but I'll ignore that for the sake of the poll & apologies if I left any parties out.

    Cheers & happy voting!

Fine Gael, as the least worst option unfortunately. We desperately need a liberal party in this country.

Fine Gael for me, sad to see the myopic masses opting for Smoked Salmon hypocrites that are hard left Labour.

The last FG rep I asked that to - couldn't say!
He just rambled a couple of individual policy differences.

I have a similar moto when voting, any body but Fianna fail.

It's usually down to deciding between Sinn Fein and the independent knowing neither of them will win.

Eh yeah I'd say there's a bit of a difference between the Communist/SF/Socialist/Libertas/Fine Gael/FF parties....

Yep thats exactly what I did anyone but them. Seriously. I really really fear that they wont get kicked out next time around. There was some level of vitriol against them last time and that was before NAMA and all the stuff that has happened of late and I really didn't think they would get voted in again but yet here they are....

I'm not too crazy about any of the major "political parties" here... they all seem like school kids trying to mark off their own part of the school yard and pointing each other out to the teacher... instead of getting shít done.

Ok my bad, should have been a bit clearer. In fairness bar FF/Fine Gael (poss SF) none of the above are ever going to be in government or have any sort of influence over a sitting government. It basically comes down to a choice between FF, FG and Labour. I don't see any difference between them and if ,let's say, a FG/Labour govt had been in power over the last 10-15 years, I don't believe the country would be in any different a state.

Maybe someone called to your door at some stage (which they do) and asked who of voting age lived there and stuck your name down on the electoral role.

That's just what Fianna Fail want you to think, the truth is, there would be some big differences. Fianna Fail only exist to help themselves, the other parties at least have some sort of record of making hard choices.

Ten people voted for Fianna Fail:

Welcome back to society guys!!! How was your two year trip to outer fcuking space?

I'll vote for whoever has the best chance of beating Fianna Fail. Hopefully labour, but if it means Fine Gael (I once swore never), I'd choose them to get that crowd of corrupt, immoral scumbags out.

I can't imagine there would be any real difference. The 3 main parties here are all similar in terms of policy and just as importantly, similar in terms of how self-serving, short-term oriented they are. No matter who is in power, the opposition will pointlessly argue that everything the Government does is wrong.

There was a good article in the week in the independent that was related to that, noting how the opposition were advocating even higher spending in the budgets prior to the economic collapse. If the roles were reversed, FF would have been singing the same tune.

    http://www.independent.ie/opinion/columnists/brendan-keenan/brendan-keenan-hindsight-shows-how-ff-couldnt-win-on-economy-2186538.html
In today's country, that government, and its finance minister Brian Cowen, are blamed for playing fast and loose with the public finances, and leading the country into its present fiscal disaster. But it did not quite seem like that at the time.

What Mr Cowen did in 2007 was park €3bn of the excess by paying off national debt, and give away the other €2bn in that year's Budget. The opposition parties said that was terribly mean. Since the €5bn had been surplus to requirements, why could we not have it back in more tax cuts, or even more spending?

Every household in the country had more than €4,000 more in taxes than was necessary. That is a compelling figure. No matter how fast incomes are rising -- and they were rising fast for nearly everyone -- no one wants to "pay" €4,000 more than they have to.

So if there were an election in the morning, I'd hope for a FF-Labour Governement with Cowen stepping down and Lenihan as Taoiseach. So I'd either vote FF or Labour. Basically anything but Enda!

I'll be voting for Labour simply because of their progressive social policies. I expect however, that Fine Gael will get in this year with Labour in coalition with them.

If Pirate Party Ireland are properly active by the time of the next election I would definately give them my No.2 or No.3.

However, I really really want to see a Libertarian party in this country. There are no parties in that sphere of the political compass at all in this country!

I will also be tactically voting Fianna Fáil out.

I never registered either but am still on the register. I guess they automatically register someone now whenever they turn 18.

On topic, I've declared myself a supporter of most of the major parties at some point but have always been disappointed with them. Right now I'd probably go for Labour as they are the least objectionable.

In my constituency: Labour and People Before Profit. A good independent would also be in with a chance.

I have never given Fianna Fail or Fine Gael as much as a preference in my life and I don't intend to change that.

I've given the Greens and SF a tactical preference before but I felt dirty and won't be repeating this any time soon.

Why ? Have they pulled ?

I'd edge towards an independent in the hope of killing the whole "party whip" bull****, but the problem is that most independents have proven their lack of worth and ethics by siding with FF.

So FG it is, at least until I'm convinced that Labour won't pander too much to the unions.

I really dont know what to do.

I'll have to vote for someone in order to ensure FF are booted so hard into the stratosphere that the resulting hemorrhoids and anal prolapses they receive will leave them in agonising pain for the rest of their miserable lives.

Not Greens for I despise everything they pruport to stand for. Hypocritical cowards and parasites they proved to be.

Not labour. Can't remember why though. Maybe too commie....

None of the Libertas/socialist/communist/Sinn Feinn lot.

Independants. I know one good man but he's not in my area.

Fianna Gael, same as FF and your man, the lead singer Enda kenny isn't it....the drippy fcuk seems p!ss poor.

The Pirate party obviously for the purposes of this poll......but in RL....it's no choice. There is literally not one party that is capable of running the Country professionally. :(

I'll check out the Independants and see if there is anyone decent I suppose.:( But I will be voting no matter what.
