Seems Sony's trigger happy with the game announcements prior to E3. The upcoming issue of GameInformer has a reveal of Killzone 3.

    Here's a seperately leaked screenshot:

    2rojhwx.jpg

    Details from here:

    http://www.gamespot.com/pages/forums/show_msgs.php?topic_id=27322649&tag=topics;title
Just got my mag of Gamepro, and guess what I see.

    Killzone 3 baby!

I'll take pictures of the screenshots later and post them and the information included in the article.

Included in the article (while im reading)

    - Will show the Helghast have humanity left in them.

    - Will have the feeling that "of being in a place far away from home, outnumbered by people who want to kill you."

    - Will be like Inglorious Basterds.

    - All of the characters in the screenshots are flying in.. jetpacks?!

    - Will include arctic levels.

    - One mission in the game involves rescuing ISA Captain Narville.

    - Game is playable in 3D!

    - Have to wear 3D glasses, apparently the 3D effects are "crazy."

    - Combat is "unchanged from predecessor."

    - Or is it? Hand to hand combat involves you "Unloading a string of different (and often brutal) attacks on stunned enemies."

    - The scale is supposed to be "bigger this time."

    - The Jetpacks are "surprisingly lightweight and agile, Killzone 3's jetpack is easier to maneuver compared to the sluggish incarnations of the gadget found in other games."

    - New weapon called the Wasp, basically shoots a "flurry of rockets" at an enemy.

    - Will show off the Helgjast culture.

    - There is actually a Helghast language, which will be explored in the game.

    - Will have "diverse locales."

    - Have to sit in the center of the 3D tv for the 3D effects to work.

    - 3D in this game is called a "Game Changer."

    - Going to have "Intense Action"

    - Jetpacks double as a weapon, which basically means a machine gun mounted right on top of it.

    - If you shoot Helghast with jetpacks, they'll "explode like roman candles"

    - To control the jetpack, you "have to activate bursts of speed in midair, propelling yourself across further distances."

    - The Jetpack resembles something you'd do in platformers such as Super Mario Bros. Or Uncharted

    - In one mission, you have to use the jetpack by "launching yourself from glacier to glacier"

    - You'll see "a lot of" snow levels.

    - Everything is more spread out in this game.

    - The game looks very complete.

Word is it's coming in March 2011. There's a link at Gamespot to photos from the magazine.

I really hope this never comes to be honest after the shambles that the second game was. First one was superb but I don't think I'll be paying out my hard earned cash on another one

Well i completely disagree - KZ2 was a great game - had some of the best MP on PS3 and i liked the story - just hated Rico

Ah no way mp was shocking too. BF:BC2 has the best mp in m opinion

Can't wait for this, sold my xbox and got a PS3 recently, it's these sort of games that justify the decision!

    Bullshot more like.

I bet the helghast language will be Ye Olde English.

Not really looking forward to the game, hated all the characters in KZ2.

I'm looking forward to it. I enjoyed KZ2, it was a bit short though (like most next gen games :( )

I enjoyed the gameplay of it though and have actually recently been playing it online again. The more laid back feel is a nice change from MW2.

Sweet! now that they have the engine nailed down, hopefully they can focus on the storyline a bit more now....

Im looking forward to this anyway. I loved the MP in KZ2 and the campaign was good as well. I still thought the campaign in the first KZ was better though.

First was average and dull. Second was pretty, average and dull, however the multi-player had buckets of under-used potential.

Darn, i really must finish killzone2! Got as far as
the radec fight and just couldn't beat him!

Recently started it again though, about halfway through or thereabouts!

It's safe to say i won't be playing it in 3D though, not a chance in hell i'll be able to afford a 3D tv for at least 4 years :/

I liked killzone2 but the one thing I couldnt get passed was how bad the controles were. felt like you were driving a tank. hopefully they sort them out for number 3.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 645 ✭✭✭altairscreed

Come on KZ2 wasn't bad at all, still play the MP when im not playin BC2, cant wait for this one, screw u shawzer hope ye lose that duel :D

I like the way people who are slagging off Killzone multiplayer point to MW2 or BFBC2 !! As if either of them are any good !!

Controllers were meant to be like that and are going to stay the same. Would you prefer they where the same as every other FPS with arcade like controls? I loved the KZ2 controls, makes it stand out in a world of Cods and Halos, more realistic.

i can apreciate what they were trying to do with the controles(give the character a sense of weight) but a times it was just awkward to aim. i did get used to the controls after a while but then i took a break from the multiplayer and played cod for a bit and i just couldnt play killzone when i went back.

+1 When i first played it i thought the controls where terrible, but after a few hours of play it was very satisfying. Thought the online was great as was the single player. For a time it was my online shooter of choice until MW2 came out. When i booted up MW2 it felt like the character you control was on rails with the lack of "weight" the game had. That being said i traded in this shortly after getting hooked on MW :P

Only problem i had with the game was how long it took to unlock classes. Being unable to use a sniper rifle (other than picking one up) from the get go was annoying

Excitement level for this game = nil.

Also, Naughty Dog are helping with the engine, hope it's not pushing Uncharted 3 further back.

I'm looking forward to this one. I really loved KZ2, and preferred it to MW2. I thought SP and MP were excellent on it. Must have a look again tonight, come to think of it......

    Oh it's on!
And for the person who compared mw2 to BF:BC2 online, shame on you.
I take offense to that because battlefield isn't for campers unlike you know what!:P

Looking forward to this one. Stop comparing KZ with MW2 and BF, they are all different types of shooters.

Sorry but ye must be joking slaggin of bc2 is a slappable offence ye know that dont ye, say what ye want about mw2 i dont care much for that one:)

Are the people who are complaining about Killzone 2's characters also playing Modern Warfare 2? Cause eh.... that hardly has the greatets character arcs! Same goes for the controls, they feel "heavy" cause they tried for some realism rather than just being able to run around like Wiley Coyote in CoD MW!

...or is this just a Killzone vs. Bad Company thing? :p

No my gripe is that it the first KZ was class but the second just wasn't

Looks like the embargo is over.

IGN has a pretty giddy preview up, along with 3 screenshots:

    http://ie.ps3.ign.com/articles/109/1092173p1.html
There are no pre-renders, no elaborate unplayable cut-scenes and no false promises; Killzone 3's reveal is pure and simple – an extended hands-on with the fourth level of a game that we're thrilled to report is full of awesome.
It seems Guerrilla is wise to its mistakes and Killzone 3 certainly won't be making any of them again. A big criticism of Killzone 2 was its one-note palette – sure, the grim browns and dead yellows certainly helped the oppressive aesthetic, but over the length of the campaign they soon became wearisome. Killzone 3 answers this with aplomb. Although they're not shown up and running, concept art for several of the levels show that this will be a relative kaleidoscope of colour, with the dreary wastelands left in the wake of Killzone 2's nuke giving way to jungles filled with phosphorous light, through to the brilliant white of the snowbound level we get to play today.

They're matched by a new and impressive sense of scale too. The first three minutes we're allowed to go hands-on with has more set-pieces crammed in to it than the entire first level of Killzone 2, and it's also ten times bigger than what had gone before. It's a change that has obvious ramifications to the gunplay itself. "The biggest thing we're doing for Killzone 3 is trying to not only have variety in the environments but also in the actual gameplay experience - the stuff that you do from minute to minute," Ter Heide tells us, and that's certainly borne out in our hands-on with the game.
Things soon require a little more dexterity and the mini-gun is ditched, revealing some subtly refined gunplay. Guerrilla is coy on the specifics – no doubt down to the fact that the specifics are constantly being fine-tuned and are likely to be in flux until just before the game ships – but it's certainly more responsive than before. It's put to the test by level design that seems to favour more direct shoot-outs than the cowering gunfights of Killzone 2, but when cover is required it now seems more reliable and intuitive, and snapping behind objects is a much swifter experience.
Oh, and there's one more thing that we've declined to mention so far. Killzone 3 will be one of the first Sony titles to support 3D out of the box, and thanks to a prototype TV using active shutter glasses set up at the event we can report that it looks stupendous – bullets zip out of the screen while particles such as snow and sparks are tangible elements of the game world. It feels like much more than a gimmick as well: peripheral details such as raging seas thrashing the icebergs combine with the way the player's gun seems to hang out of the screen (and indeed people were living up to the age-old cliché and reaching out to touch what wasn't there during the presentations) to create a level of immersion that's truly beyond anything we've seen to date.

Amazing...Just after finishing Red Dead Redemption and now I find out that Killzone 3 maybe announced :D Awesome news Killzone 2 was probably my favourite FPS game (when I used to play it) but then when I stopped playing I grew off it... Ending to Killzone 2 was amazing!

I have one question: where the hell is projectmayhem? I would have thought he'd be creaming over this? :pac:

I really liked the first game. The SP was good with very nice set-pieces, though I am happy to read their will be more variety in the environments. The MP was innovative. I can only hope they spend plenty of time on it too.

KZ2 does look amazing still and the level of mayhem in the firefights is something else, but i do agree with the lack of colours and environments, its all industrial/urban areas and one sandy type place, its hard to remember half the levels as they all look samey, the train level was great though. i must play through it again actually its been a while. The sound design is incredible in it though, all the guns have great effects and they sound like a proper badass assault rifle should.

Another very positive review from Eurogamer:

Again, mentioning how impressive the 3D effects are.

I liked KZ2 a lot only thing that annoyed me was it would take a lot of bullets to put some guys down. If they had a shot gun you could have emptied a pile of bullets into them only to get blasted once and killed.

Glad I'm not alone here with you and a few others in thinking Killzone is pretty overrated. KZ2 was OK I guess, but it was little more than a standard, pretty but bland FPS in single-player anyway (never played multiplayer so can't comment on that!). The level design and colour palette just seemed very limited. Also, many of the best set-pieces were almost totally out of your control.

I'm glad some Naughty Dog crew are on board for this. They need to add some more compelling gameplay to the wonderful tech IMO.

I didn't even like the previous Killzone games that much, but the 3D aspect of this game is making my drool. My new 3D is not getting used properly, I'll only have the world cup until 3D games like this start hitting the market.
