Why is Ronan Keating's separation considered news worthy enough for the 6.01?

    As the title says.... WTF?

Surely this is the sort of thing that should be learned about by those who care from entertainment shows or glossy women's magazines.

It's a sunny day and they didn't want to write about war.

Must've been a slow news day for RTE..

Although Ronan has been in the limelight a lot more since Stephen's death, so maybe they thought people would be interested in the break up of his marriage?

Well known character, both for his terrible band/songs and his more so commendable charity work.

    People are idiots.

That's about all I can think of.

I don't see how anyone would have an interest in Ronan Keating's life, including his love life.
Sick of this crappy celebrity world that we live in....
People that aren't even particularly talented seem to be lauded within a media structure that is extremely flawed.

In other news Lauren Blanc will be the next French manager.

(I fcuking hate Thierry Henri and Kevin Kilbane)

Maradona runs over reporter , could have been a photographer but he ran over someone.

Conor Niland got beat in French open tennis.

    I tuned in late.

Relevance? If he dies I'd say the coverage is warranted, but not his lovelife.

Chaos in Greece, the latest from the Dáil, upcoming cultural celebrations both sides of the border and the hope they'll be in a spirit of peace, murder, a cocaine seizure and sentencing, and excuse me... Ronan Keating's marriage has broken up?

    Give me a break.

Because even though they suck 170 euro out of every house, they still can't produce a programme worth watching, news included. I wish they'd just fire everyone, and reboot, without proceeds from the TV license. Then at least we wouldn't be funding the obscene wages Kenny/Tubridy and co get.

I feel the same way when I see any kind of sports news or weather reports.

Why is the Ronan Keating non-news considered worthy enough for After Hours?

The real question is, why is the 6.01 news not called The 6.01 Bad News? Never a good story on it, till it gets to the sports news and thats drowned out by the weather forecast that comes after it.

If you believe celebrity break ups and make ups should be on the state broadcaster's main news show you're pretty boorish yourself.

Can't you people just switch to Big Brother or The Hills or something else inane when the news comes on?

I couldnt care less if Keating spontaneously combusted, but this is typical RTE celeb-obsessed sh&te. And here I am replying to a thread on it. Bad Peter, no Hoegaarden for you!

he's only getting divorced for the Late Late tommorow.
Tubs told him he can't come on and whinge about the dead fella again.

"Give me something big Ronan, Twink bored the nation stupid last week" he said.

The thread is on what RTÉ News considering worthy to bring to our televisions, not the celebrity gossip itself.

This line wont do your argument any favours Ronan was a bit than a reality TV star. To say otherwise is rather dumb and typical begrudgery.

I genuinely mis-typed I meant say is in a thread about him the point still stands.

Maybe I was being a little dramatic but I really think people are being a little bit hard on him. Ro is a nice guy and he didn't ask for this media intrusion.

I'm not saying otherwise but even if he is your hero and you have all his posters on your bedroom wall this still doesn't warrant all his make ups and break ups appearing on the state broadcaster's main news show.
    You would, oh cerebal one.
Being able to spell, form grammatically correct English and proof read doesn't make me cerebal... you mean cerebral I assume.

When the 6.01 covered the story it looked like he'd organised a press conference but I was trying not to pay close attention.

He probably is a nice guy, in fact there's nothing about him I especially dislike but all that's irrelevant as my problem's not with him, it's with RTE News.

his seperation is no one elses business but his own, i have no interest in that kind of news
why is there not good news in the job front, which is more of my concern,
people burying tyres in bogs, and taking money pretending they were getting them to recycling, no permets by these people, big houses built as we could see the last night, the tyres paid for them, what do they owe the revenue, since the rest of us are caught up in this thing paying our taxes

Wee bit of random rant there, I dont think Ronan will get a 40 minute report on Prime Time if that is the point you are trying to make.

Q: Why is Ronan Keating's separation considered news worthy enough for the 6.01?

    A:
Because compared to their stellar reporting on the trilateral commission & their parsimonious coverage of the protests this is hardcore reality.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,876 ✭✭✭deelite

RTE probably put it on the news as it was apparently the most clicked news story of the day on BBC - so maybe RTE didn't want to let a possible rating winner pass them by.

The story could easily have been replaced by today being when man first created artificial life in the laboratory but they missed the boat on that one it seems.

You are expecting RTE at 6 to cover a story which is only breaking news at 8.

    AMAZING
