I'm on my 4th car at the moment. I've only ever smoked in my first one but stopped once I got my 2nd one. I still smoke, just not in my car.

    Anyone else do this?

It's about the only warm and dry place left where you can do so ..so ..hell yeah !

(also the smoke smell helps to overpower the wet dog smell rather nicely :D)

Used to but with window down, had a rain guard to keep the rain out so my cigeratte could stay dry.
But gave up smoking so the answer I suppose is No.

I dont smoke but under no circumstances would I ever let anyone who does smoke have a smoke in any car I owned.

The smell would just never leave!

Draffod, I'm of the same opinion. I only smoked in my first car because it was already STINK of smoke when I got it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 37,316 ✭✭✭✭the_syco

Yes, but only spark up if the car is stopped. Leave the windows down if smoking. Have a Honda Civic Saloon; can I fit those wind shields onto the front window? And how much do they cost?

I wouldn't buy a car if it smelled of smoke, that smell just never leaves, even if you valet it with a power hose.

There is nothing nicer than a yellow stain on the headliner over the drivers seat.

I wouldn't buy a car if there was evidence of a previous owner smoking in it. Walked away from buying a lovely looking 325ci because not only did it have a horrible stale smoke smell but also had a nice cig burn in the drivers door leather.

But people can smoke in their car if they want but, people that smoke in the car with their kids in the back are the scum of the earth.:mad::mad:

I was 18 and had very little to spend on a car anyway haha

I agree 100%. I feel sick when I see someone smoking in a car with kids in it. And no, having the window open doesn't make me feel any better. They should be shot for doing it!

Don't smoke, but I'm a bit of a stickler for in car cleanliness. No eating allowed either. The first car I ever owned stank of smoke when I first took it for a text drive, ash all over the place etc. Took it for another spin after the garage had at valeted and you'd never have known tbh.

I used to smoke out of a strange habit. When I visited the office in Fundalk I would leave Tipperary early in the morning. I would smoke around Roscrea, at the M50 and around Dunleer and more or less the same locations on the way back down the road.

Otherwise I could drive for weeks without putting a cigarette near my mouth in the car.

I also don't believe in second hand smoke but thats another days work...

    always

most of my 20ish a day are smoked in the car, cos i'm not allowed smoke at home inside

I smoke the odd cigar and when I do it's in the car, made the regular Cork to Galway trips a bit less boring. I only drive cheap, old cars so I'm not too bothered. Still if I get a nice old, cheap, 7 series or Range Rover I still reckon I'll have the odd cigar in there :)

i used to smoke in my kia and smoke in my van , helps me deal with the traffic and awful drivers of small cars , used to clean the smell out about once a month, leather seats so it didnt really stick, always with the window or sunroof open,

wont be smoking in the new car as i like the smell too much , but that will probably lapse after a month or so

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 81,220 ✭✭✭✭biko

Yes, but always with the window open a crack to get rid of most of the smell.
Will not smoke with children in the car and always ask permission if someone else is with me, even though it's my car.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,213 ✭✭✭PrettyBoy

I don't smoke so I would absolutely never let anyone else smoke in my car.

I used smoke in my last car but not in the current one. Instead I stop somewhere for a few minutes, get out and stretch the legs.

I used to be the same "oh I'm in Carlow, must be time for a smoke"

Then again, a lot of smoking is response to triggers (ie with a cuppa, after breakfast or whatever) so it's only natural that passing a location will become a trigger too.

I know plenty of smokers and not a single whiff of smoke has ever entered my car. Even denied some good looking passengers a smoke, hard thing to do!

Smoking in cars is illegal in Germany but thats another story.

If you are still a smoker have a look at these.

Only because you have become dependent on nicotine. Lack of nicotine makes you more stressed in traffic, smoking just brings you back to what you would normally be if you didn't smoke. ;)

Ya i have a smoke in the car but always with the window about a third down. If its really pelting down and the rains coming in i just usually pass on the smoke to be honest. I never ever attempt to smoke in a non-smokers car even if they say its alright.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,014 ✭✭✭high horse

Yes I do, not many places left where we can enjoy a smoke,

Well enjoy it while it lasts then...(only a matter of time before Irish legislation follows)

I actually like my car so there is no way I would let anyone soil it by smoking in it :)

Don't smoke and wouldn't let anyone smoke either, however I made an exception for a previous Girlfriend as I just couldn't refuse her, we did however do other things in the car which made up for it and the smoke smell made a handy deodoriser! ;)

Only when i get stuck in traffic.
    Mostly because i get bored.
On a long trip i just prefer to take a "pit stop", stretch the legs, smoke one an drive on.

    There's a cheaper way - buy an automatic! ;)

I always smoked in my first car, was young, no kids and the car was cheap.
When I upgraded stopped smoking in it as couldn't stand the stink and then the kids came along so soon got out of the habit of it... Came in handy when I gave up and now I'm off them completely.
Don't think I'd mind my friends having the odd fag in my car at the moment but thankful they won't light up in it so it is a blessing in disguise..

when i first got my current car, it absolutely stank of cigarette smoke.

the first day of proper driving in it, i got home and promptly puked and had a splitting headache, and everytime i got in, i felt a wave of nausea.

took two or three very good cleans, and replacing the entire interior with an m3 interior to get rid of it. while stripping it, i found loads of cigarette butts and ashes lodged in the carpet. and a 50p coin, which led me to discovering it was a uk import.

dont think id buy a smokers car again, cos i dont have another interior to replace it with!
