What's your biggest distraction from study? (Apart from Boards)

I'm sitting in my room at the minute actually making an attempt to study and the building outside JH is driving me insane! I'm in the ground floor apartment at the edge of Rye and my bedroom faces right onto it. I've got headphones on with "Gentle Rain, Soothing Sounds of Nature" and all I can hear is their electric saw!

Apart from that, Gmail, Facebook, and Boards have ruined my degree for me.

"Oh well, it's only first year"- I hate when people say that!

I can't go to the library either because I know that it's probably too late by now and I won't get a seat and my exam is in Rye Hall at 12:30 so it's hardly worth my while going over!

    Aww :-( good luck anyway

mine is without a doubt facebook though I did spend several hours yesterday listening to harry potter and the deathly Hallows on tape. You have to love Stephen Fry!

My bastard of a housemate thought it would be nice to give me Final Fantasy 7 for the PC...currently 3 hours into it. :|

His band playing in the living room and sometimes needing someone to sing certain songs is a distraction too.

If I'm actually trying to study though it's obviously facebook.

Definitely my PS3. WHY did I think it would be a good idea in my final year? And WHY did my brother have to get a huge HD tv as well.......

Exam in 40 mins. Jizz and Poop.

the internet in general I suppose

RTE player, Boards, my emails and youtube.

MSN not so much as nobody is ever really on!

What I do find very handy is that I make myself do an hour and then stop for 10mins, I know thats a short amount of studying for a break, but that way I will sit here from 12 to 8 no problem.

yeah i find 40 mins study 20 mins break can keep me going from morning till night.

Spent 3 hours last night playing this new game that we made up and setting up a facebook page for it. It's like beer pong but far better and very addictive.

Currently trying to learn all about The Smiths while listening to some rap. Not really working but sure it'll be grand

Msn, facebook, boards and windows. *Looks out window* Oooh.... neighbours. *Looks at neighbours* Ooooh, a domestic *Makes up imaginary story about said domestic* Ooooh, hot guy from across the road *Thinks of ways to propose*

Ahh Popular Music. Such a great course. Heads up, don't write about The Smiths unless you have a genuine interest in them/Morrissey.....

Don't have much of a choice really. Only question I can be kinda sure is coming up on it.

Any answer on The Smiths will be inadequate for him anyway. It'd be like writing about The Bible for The Pope. He just knows too much. Great course though and a brilliant lecturer

There will probably be a question on women, Adorno, Smiths, Punk... can't remember what else!

I did Punk last year and I think I did the one on Women. Google and Jstor are your friends.

Yea did a bit on Adorno there the other day. Some good readings in the library. Unfortunately the exams at 3.30 so I should probably get off this and do a bit more study.

3.30 exams are class. Only woke up at 9.10 for my half 9 exam yesterday and was a bit of a rush. Early mornings don't suit me

    Mission accomplished :):):)

I got Black and White for the PC a few months ago, just before the January exams and I swear to God it nearly made me fail everything! I had the whole game completed in 4 days! I played it for a solid 18 hours one day... My back and eyes died a little bit!
Hahaha my boyfriend wanted to get Final Fantasy 13 when it first came out and I kept telling him to wait until after the exams... He wouldn't listen to me and the night that he got it, his PS3 died and the game got stuck inside it. He had to take apart the whole PS3 to get it out again!

I have this thing where I have myself convinced that I'm more popular than I actually am, and I keep telling myself that I have to check my emails every 5 minutes JUST IN CASE someone needs me! :)

    I hate Adorno.

Listen sunshine, if you've no interest in footing turf for the rest of your life while I burn the shcones, don't even look in my direction.

Gmail and when I'm really desperate moodle...anything but studying! Going for random walks around my house works a lot...it's like I'm looking for something new to appear in the dining room.

My ipod games don't help either. Brick is amazingly interesting!

Sleep completely interfers with my study time. Wouldn't it be great if we could just suspend the need to sleep for a couple of weeks?

    Seconded.

Also, why does time travel faster when you're cramming for an exam!!:D

Oh to be studying and then distracted from it. I always found the sunshine outside the library and the pretty girls inside it (both only appear in April/May) my biggest downfall...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,479 ✭✭✭catho_monster

You know it's bad when you try and get work done in those tiny tiny moments between when you hit the refresh button on boards/gmail/facebook and when it loads :(

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,878 ✭✭✭Rozabeez

    Seriously? But I'm so hairy.....

No no, don't try and talk your way back into the circle, we won't be having you around on girly nights out to apply fake tan and tell us we're fabulous EVER AGAIN. :D

I also agree with the sleeping bit, sleeping in by 4 hours sucks....

I know I've whined about it lots already, but hey, having a tonsillectomy really HAS interfered with my study.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,810 ✭✭✭Seren_

Not having exams is a huge distraction to study :pac: But if I'm being serious, facebook, mindjolt games, and watching endless dvds didn't really help with passing exams in January.

WHAT????!!! When was Toto in Mantra?? My friend is staying in Maynooth at the moment with my boyfriend and he is actually Toto's biggest fan! I can't believe I didn't tell him they were playing!

It was the launch of iTab, a product some friends are working on and apparently Toto was playing upstairs!

Twas invite only though.....it was so weird - NOBODY downstairs (cept a handful of drunken men dancing to Lady Marmalade.... >_< ) but crap loads upstairs.
