The penultimate episode. Starts 2am our time as usual.

Also, a reminder to everyone that the 2 hour finale is on *this* Sunday on ABC. It seems Sky/RTE will be airing it on their usual days.

    Enjoy.

What happened ABC splitting this across Sat and Sun night?

Always love your posts SP by the way ;)

I have the distinct feeling this episode will end with an epic Giacchino score..

.. hard to imagine that this time next week, 'Lost' will have finished! :(

First I've heard of this. Probably just fan speculation. It was always going to be Sunday afaik.

    *slips over brown envelope* :pac:

Ah wait until I dissolve into incoherent ranting and raging when the finale fails to satisfy me.

But we'll all be so amazed at the outcome that we'll have to re-watch the entire series to see how it all now makes perfect sense (ala fight club/6th sense etc) :)

Are you suggesting there's some kind of twist in those films?:eek::eek: :D

This better set things up nicely.

Just wondering why we can't post about the episode before it airs on RTE? I understand you don't want to spoil it for people, but surely the thread title will discourage those who haven't seen it to read the thread?

"Don't be ridiculous. It's in the secret room behind my bookcase."

    I love Ben.

This is setting up nicely. It's looking as if this is the episode they answer the smaller questions like Ben/Widmore and so on before setting it up for the final. Plus Desmond-centric FS. I'm a fan.

Are Widmore and Richard really dead?

    Widmore; bulletproof vest?

And Richard; surely such a major character would get a better send off?

OK Jack has now taken over from Jacob as the new Guardian. But what if he in a final twist he gets killed by MIB? of course another Guardian would probably have to take over but it would be a dramatic twist

Also do you think Ben is evil again? or will he redeem himself?

Not a lot to say about it really. A extremely solid and consistent episode, covered a lot of territory, ticked all the right boxes and set things up very nicely for the finale. I didn't particularly care for Widmore's sudden, inexplicable change of heart. But as I've said before, I really couldn't give a sh*t about stuff like that at this stage. It's all about the Losties now. Whether you loved or hated last week's episode, I think everyone can agree that their absence from it did it no favours.

There's so much that can still go wrong in the finale, but I after tonight I have a very good feeling about it.

    Roll on Sunday!

He could have been merely thrown into the trees. He also said he knew MIB. This could be MIB showing him mercy as a way of revealing he isnt totally evil

    Right, where do I start...

This concert to begin with. We know there'll be Jack, his son, his sons mother (my money's on Juliet), Desmond, Kate, Miles, his father and a few others. It wouldn't surprise me if the entire cast end up there by the end of it (Charlies band to make an appearance perhaps?) Speaking of which, and I'm just thinking out loud here, but my bets on Juliet meeting Sawyer at the end of this concert and she asks him out for that coffee. That'll be nice to see :)

Ben killing Widmore was just awesome in every way. "He doesn't get to save his daughter"...what a line! At least they had some sort of resolution between the two of them, even if the conflict didn't escalate as much as thought it would when it started back in S4. Sadly it looks like, baring another u-turn, Ben's finally joined the dark side. But that was until Locke talked about "destroying the island", which probably won't go down well with him. We've all lost count on the amount of times Ben has double-crossed people so who knows what he'll end up doing.

Did anyone else find Richards death absolutely hilarious? I probably shouldn't laugh, I loved his character and I'm sad to see him go, but he got himself well and truly owned.

Jacks becoming of the new Jacob was well handled I thought. I'm particularly glad they didn't drag out the "who'll take the job" segment too long, it was obvious to everyone he was always gonna be the one to take it. He didn't learn anything particularly noteworthy in that scene but it was still pretty significant, our 4 remaining heroes finally coming face to face with the man that brought them to the island all those years ago.

Now, this whole fail-safe thing with Desmond. What Flocke said was that he would be used as a last resort in case all the candidates were killed, but what exactly would that entail? The only two things that come to mind is it could mean Desmond entering the light like MiB last week, and it could mean bringing the two timelines together into one cohesive unit. I'm not sure how well that would sit with me though, I was never a big fan of the AU being an epilogue theory but it could very well head that way now.

    God I'm excited!

Its hard to say though by killing widmore he got his revenge but he also also could have been stopping widmore telling MIB anything

I find it hard to rate these last few episodes. Their objective should be working towards closing the series succesfully and I cant tell if they are doing that until the end :D

I loved the scene where Ben meets Rousseau and there were so many things you take as a double meaning. Alex says Ben looks like Napoleon, reference to his love of power in alt timeline. Rousseau then says they will bring him home for dinner even if they have to kidnap him

Found it surprising how quickly Ben transformed back into evil Ben.

"You told her not to talk to me that made her pointless" LoL brilliant, that Zoe one was annoying me.

Also thinking Richard might loose his power possibly when Jacob dies, along with others?

For me, last week's episode was the bitter confirmation that the writers have absolutely no intention of explaining any of the unresolved mysteries from previous seasons.
I'm just watching it now because I'm in too deep.
You can take out your revenge on the writers by not buying the inevitable 6-season blu-ray box-set. :P

    Good question.

Great episode. I think loads of us knew for quite some time now that this was going to be a Jack vs Locke thing, given their history since season 1.

So Locke wants to use Ben to kill Jack, and Desmond to destroy the island. Locke already got Ben to kill Jacob... I'm not so sure Jack would just sit there and take it like Jacob did. I also think Ben won't do it now as he knows Locke wants to destroy the island.

I can't wait for that concert!

I read an interview with the dude who plays Jack last week and he kind of ruined the finale for me, but I'm still looking forward to it regardless. At the same time, I never want this show to end. :o
    Roll on Sunday/Monday morning. :D

I loved that myself, it was just such a throwaway comment, but it showed that they don't just remember the bits that they see when the other reality flashes before their eyes, but once that floodgate is opened, they gradually remember everything. Which would suggest that they know everything that happened/is happening in the other timeline... perhaps they get new memories from the new things that their characters experience?

Fantastic episode, I think it set things up just perfectly for the finale next week.

I don't want it to be over, but I can't wait!!!

(Gave it a 9 as it was awesome, but just not quite 10 worthy IMHO)

ahhh disapointed again. How is that a 10 episode seriously?

Ive a few questions. Wasnt Sawyers name crossed off the list too? No reason given?

Secondly how the hell does Jacob know what to do regards saying the prayer and making the drink some passover sort of thing? He didnt hear what his mother said when she gave him it out of a bottle for all he knew it was that specific drink that made the whole passover work. Its stupid that now he knows exactly what he has to do when in last weeks episode he was as clueless as everyone else. How did he become so enlightend?

That episode dragged alot in places to the point I was bored.

Ben just transformed back into evil Ben in the blink of an eye.

Really didnt like the whole "its just chalk on a wall kate" line. It made the whole "special" feel for the losties that werent crossed off completley redundant. Why have them crossed out in the first place?

Im seriously scratching my head as to why people think that was so good!?

Boring episode imo with cop out answers once again. No explanation of the lighthouse either. Meh.

Ive a feeling after the finale sunday il be saying "well that was ****". I hope im wrong but going by this season so far I wont be.

EDIT: Knew I forgot something. Jacob said that he brought them to the island because when he died he needed someone else to protect the island or something to that effect but I thought Jacob constantly brought new people to the island and that "it always ended the same" yet he only died at the end of last season?

Oh, and could it be possible that because Jack has now become the new Jacob, the new protector, that Sawyer, Kate and Hurley are now no longer candidates, which would mean that it would be possible for FLocke to kill them?

He'd been looking for someone to replace him for a long time, since MiB tried to get Richard to kill him. FLocke/MiB just managed to kill him before he found his replacement this time.

I laughed when Kate was all "Why is my name crossed out?" and Jacob says "eh it's just some chalk, you can join in to".

Ben is at least doing something which is a plus. He's looked too dazed and confused for the season.

Thought Russo was going to pounce on Dr Linus there and then! Not very subtle.

Every time he brought people to the island it always ended the same....
because as MIB pointed out they came, they fought, they destroyed, they ended up dead.
THE MAN IN BLACK: Still trying to prove me wrong, aren't you?
    JACOB: You are wrong.
THE MAN IN BLACK: Am I? They come. They fight. They destroy. They corrupt. It always ends the same.
JACOB: It only ends once. Anything that happens before that is just progress.

IMO basically Jacob has bet MIB that he could bring someone to the island who would willingly take his place as the guardian of the island. MIB has a bad opinion of humanity and sees them as a reflection of himself, i.e. he couldn't understand why anyone forced to come to the island would ever want to stay to protect it rather than get as far away as possible like him so previously the candidates always ended up killing each other.

Jacob allowed himself to be stabbed by Ben this time IMO because (a) he wanted to die - much like Mother and (b) he finally had his replacement who didn't want to leave no matter how tempted.

    You can't be serious?

Anyway, the episode itself. It was alright at best, certainly not great. Is it me or are the writers just taking the piss at this stage? In the scene where Widmore is going to tell Flocke why he is here, he says "not in front of him", nodding towards Ben. He should have just looked straight at the camera and said 'not infront of them'. As in us, the viewers....

Also, how did any of the candidates not ask why 'the Monster' couldn't kill Jacob? It was a pretty obvious question. The fact that even this late in the entire series the writing is still deliberately vague and written in such a way as to so obviously suit the wants of the writers and not the actual characters themselves is doing my f*ucking head in.

Oh yea, and it's just some chalk on a wall? How about it's just some light in a cave? Ye f*ucking pr**ks....

But didnt he say in this episode it was when he died he knew he had to bring in someone to replace him? Cant remember exactly the scene so I could be wrong but I think thats what he said....

How did Jacob become so enlightend? Last week he didnt know what the hell was going on. How did he know the prayer and the drink combination? Jack never thought to ask what the lighthouse was. Eh why!?

Good episode. Nowhere near a 10 but still pretty good.

Do you want it explained like the whispers or adam and eve? Do you expect Jack to just turn around and say 'Hey I've a bunch of questions like what was that lighthouse? And where did that food drop come from? Oh and what's the story with that big bird...'
'Well jack its all in this companion book, "How To Protect The Island for Dummies." Very handy.'

If they are gonna explain all the mysteries that way I'd rather not know tbh.

Fantastic episode, 9.5/10 for me but I listed 9 for now.

I hope Widmore has a bullet proof vest or something because there's got to be more to him than all we've seen, unless we learn something in Flash sideways. Zoe's death was brutal and a scary rememberance of how evil MIB is, after last week's episode which I thought made sympathetic case for his original motivations.

I liked how the episode flowed and the amount of progression that was made. I hope Richard's send off wasn't so slight and that he will be in the finale, still hanging on for Lapidus returning too:)

The sideways was the best yet and actually has me excited to see how it all works out.

I read an interview with the dude who plays Jack last week and he kind of ruined the finale for me, but I'm still looking forward to it regardless. At the same time, I never want this show to end. :o
    Roll on Sunday/Monday morning. :D

He ruined it by spoiling details or how?

That was decent. We got some bits of explanation, the story moved towards a conclusion which is about all you can ask for the second last episode, and the alt timeline was interesting enough.
