    Hello,

I get recurring lower back problems and also have a recurring shoulder injury.
Pilates has been recommended more than once and I'm wondering what advantage a group class would bring over a dvd or if I'm better off getting a dvd and focusing on the few excercises which are relevant to my problems.

I'm not looking to lose weight or tone just to strengthen and make more flexible in order to prevent injury.

    Cheers

Have these recommendations come from qualified medical professionals/Physio or from friends/family?

If not from a qualified person, then I would advise against starting any from of exercise until you have had your back and shoulder issues diagnosed and treated.

    Best Regards,

If a professional has recommended it defo go with the class to ensure your technique is right,

Pilates is worth the investment to get right for injury recovery and prevention. Some physio’s centres are running Pilates courses this would be idle as you could be monitored by a professional and have your training focused on your injury.

When you technique is good you could think about using DVD’s.

Definately a class, but it has to be a GOOD class, there are so many crap pilates classes out there, it's not funny (and rather dangerous)

I'd recommend Centre Studios in Rathmines ... excellent instructors there, they're highly technical ...
