I'll echo the comment I put on streetfighter.ie

Button binding is allowed in the official Evo rules, so why not at a qualifier? http://evo2k.com/?page_id=378

Pretty much excluding anyone who plays on a regular controller. Also for SSFIV at Evo, it’ll be played on PS3, so why have the qualifier on 360?

The day before my girlfriend leaves the country for good. Maybe next year... :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 933 ✭✭✭Doyler01

I have 2 weeks of exams before this and I have already planned to get in a bad way the night before this, so I don't think I'l be around for this.

If you look at the inferno 10 poll it shows a lot of ppl will have trouble with this date.

I can only make the 29th and thats assuming I can get a place to stay in Dublin that night, but I think alot of people will have issues with the 29th. After that work means I won't be able to get to Dublin on weekends for several months.

Also can we get clarification on the rules. Who decided on them? Is there a standard format for EVO qualifers?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,181 ✭✭✭✭Jim

Wont be able to make it myself, going to a music fest that weekend.

Also totally disagree with the rules regarding button binding. The rules of this should mirror those of the competition it's a qualifier for.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 238 ✭✭Cobelcog

My stance on button binding should be obvious.

    (I want it)

Do we all get a rule change?

I think Cammy should be banned so :P

Sounds great! About the TE prize, is that provided by capcom or is that being bought from the pot?

It was the right decision to make. Hell, I play on a Hori EX2 w/ 6 buttons, but binding is almost a necessity for pad players.

Bison has to use U1 only :D

Cool regarding the binding rule change. Pissed I can't go, but even if I could I don't think I could afford the €20 entry!

Btw, don't know why people think you can't play on pad without binding. I played pad default for ages and it was grand!

pad default has triples bound the the left trigger and bumper

Eh pad on default has PPP and KKK binded Jim.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,333 ✭✭✭Sairus

Is ther any second place prize? A trip and a stick seem like a fairly huge prize for a single person.
I know, this is a big event so the winner should get a big prize but maybe the stick should go to the runer up?

Yea, sorry. I meant that I never used them. Pressed all three kicks or punches separately.

Ye I agree. The winner will be happy enough with the plane ticket.

    ^^^

Im agreed.. The 1st place is prize is plenty, 2nd place should get the stick.

Just on the Wireless pads are banned rule:

This would only apply to the standard 360 and ps3 pads. Wireless pads/sticks that use a usb receiver are fine because the receiver must be plugged into the console for the device to work, and would be plugged out afterwards so there's no chance of it messing with someone's game later down the line.

I would assume you can use the standard pads if you remove the battery pack and use the connector cable.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,082 ✭✭✭✭chopperbyrne

Fairly certain PS3 pads using the USB cable bypasses that rule too, but it won't apply to a 360 tourney obviously.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,910 ✭✭✭Sisko

Yeah good points. Basically I was just making sure those guys who use madcatz pads didnt read rule that and think they were being screwed

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,363 ✭✭✭Misty Chaos

I highly doubt I'll be able to make this, my college end of year exhibition is on the 27th and if I realistically wanted to make this, I'd have to pay for two nights in Dublin or somewhere close to the location. Basically, not enough cash to cover both events.

Good luck to those who will be travelling, though.

I think it's on the same day as the last day of my Saturday classes for this term that I really wouldn't wanna miss. Shame, would've liked to at least show up for support even if I didn't enter!

Currently I'm down to work that Saturday =/ Not that I would even be getting out of groups. Best of luck you guys!

I'm not sure about this. Firstly, isn't even only played on sticks? Idk. If evo is played on PS3 then why are we having the comp on 360. As a ps3 pad player this sucks for me, ha. I doubt it I'll enter.

Fairly certain Sisko has a spare PS2>360 converter so if you want to play on PS2 pad, that's open to you.

Edit: Or just buy one for almost nothing: http://cgi.ebay.ie/New-PS2-controller-Xbox-360-converter-adapter-cable-/280507871693?cmd=ViewItem&pt=UK_VideoGames_VideoGameAccessories_VideoGameAccessories_JN&hash=item414f9271cd

You can use pads at evo and evo is ps3 only as they got a deal from sony or something.Didn't you use someones converter to use a ps3 pad on xbox vs cobelcog in the final the last time?

Hope you can make it anyway, this looks to have the best prize out of all the tournaments so far and hopefully EVERYONE will make it.

Ye I used a PS2 pad. I'll try make it for it. Should be fun anyway.

Can I ask is this being run for profit, or are all entry fee's being offset against the cost of prizes?

If the TE is being bought from the entry pot, I think that's a bit silly. The majority of players at the top level already have TEs or don't use sticks at all. That money could be put to better use for the EVO flights.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,237 ✭✭✭Owwmykneecap

I had assumed that gamesnash would be providing it, or something of the like.
As nice as gamesnash is(apparently) It is a bit out of the way for a comp.

Also Did evo give us a space/something or is that coming out of the entry fee, like we talked about at xgc a few weeks back?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,181 ✭✭✭✭Jim

I'm almost 100% sure that all the prize pot is going toward flights etc.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,878 ✭✭✭bush

Does the winner get to bring a young protege with him like daigo?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,084 ✭✭✭✭Kirby

He has to have an alias though. Like dan from japan.

Our version could be Jerry from Kerry.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,333 ✭✭✭Sairus

Ew Kerry. Way to make us instantly lose all credibility.
