 My god if that crowd came over here and see some of the beauties we have driving the roads..

No no .. they got it all wrong. TopGear clearly stated, that it's the Audi drivers now, that are those tailgating you and being aggressive on the road, so it's cool to drive a BMW again :)

I have to agree that alot of BMW and Audi drivers are agressive, but I think overall its Merc drivers who are the worst. Not old school mercs but the newer one's say 1 to 3 year old. I often wounder are indicaters an optional extra on new Mercs.

Didn't you know, that driving a Merc automatically comes with the right to drive first at any given junction, disregarding the junction layout ? :p

thats bull****. they say BMW drivers don't concentrate? yea so you buy a highpowerd rwd car for no reason atall other than the name and run around not concentrating or waiting for it to over-steer?

id say old folk in luxobarge mercs are worse.

or the typical 45 year old Audi driver trying to drive to compensate for his dwindling testosterone levels," you see i have quattro and have no fun atall because there is so much grip" to hell with BMW rwd fun:pac:

Load of balls imho. People see the BMW badge and then try and find faults with the driver.

If I said to you VW drivers were aggressive, drive too fast, don't indicate etc, you'd be on the look out for it and would spot several examples to prove me right. QED VW drivers are awful.

More to do with peoples perception than anything else.

I don't really watch top gear but they're right -Audi drivers are the new BMW drivers. I'm no slow coach but I'm never comfortable with an Audi driver behind me...

what is it with BMW drivers and thinking that RWD seems to be 'their' thing?
you do all realise there's thousands of different RWD cars out there?

Most immensly more 'fun' (in terms of the fun you'd have with a RWD) than BMWs.

"Thousands of different cars" is a misleading and strange way of making that point, there are a handful of RWD marques and subset of them are "sport" orientated.

Yeah there are other RWD cars, Merc and Lexus spring to mind, but meh..
What I will give you however, and simultaneously piss off my BMW brethern, is the misconception that <3litre BMWs are fast. Im sure you can have this mysterious fun in many things, but a 316 driven to the inch of its life (yet still underpowered and slow) is more self delusional than fun.

On the point of all BMWs being "no fun", as you allude, clearly thats sour grapes, you really think real M cars (M3, M5s etc) are boring drives? I know diehard Lexus fans that got a drive in an e60 M5 and were instantly "converted". Its easy to peddle a stereotype till you are sitting in a 500bhp BMW with 10cylinders up front going sideways through a roundabout.

For the record, I have a BMW and like some of their models a lot, but on the same token dislike more of the range than I actually like. Its a car, not a club.

Clarkson has it right...top prize currently sits with Audi drivers. All that pent up aggression from having a dull run-of-the-mill car is coming out since they've started to make good machines again.

As a former BMW driver (not a 1-series though!), I hang my head in shame at the following:

80 percent of BMW 1-Series drivers think the car is a front-wheel drive

the bmw 1 series is only for people who want to buy a badge ,

all of the 1 series and the 316,318,320d,518,520d,730d are not performance or immensly 'fast' or 'fun' cars, thinking they are sports cars is dellusional (no matter how much quinn direct believes it) ,

simple as if you bought a bmw to have rwd fun or have a fast car you need to start at the 323is , 530, 735 , then you can call your beamer a fast car

No no. To have fun you buy a 320d remap it and then try and spend as much time as you can sideways. While getting 40mpg. Still anything under 2 litre's is just un-inspired. Especially the 316d. Yuck.

Also in that article. Van drivers and young drivers worse than Taxi drivers and Mothers on the school run?

Err no. Every time I drive though Dublin City Center I always get cut up by taxis. Don't even get me started on the sea of Honda streams from the local primary school.

a 316d isnt a 1.6 you know:pac: gone are the days of relaying on the badge to know the model.

I found that out with the 545i. :D

Only thing about the 316d is its the detuned 2 litre diesel. :(

115bhp in a rwd car that big. Id say its fairly pedantic.

I think we're getting way off topic here. Especially because those figures don't tell the whole story. It's weight vs. torque vs. setup. But that's a whole different story. True, the low end spectrum (< x20d/i) won't hack it. You've got to be up around the 2.5 liter engines before it becomes fun.

It's the same thing, when you are explaining a Lexus driver, that the Lexus IS series isn't anything beyond a regular 3-series :) There are two types of "car-owners": Those who buy the car for it's abilities and those who buy it for the bagde. The latter is most likely what's referred to in the article. The first type isn't a car-owner, but a motorist or car enthusiast.

well lets look at some figures
    e36 m3 evo 316 bhp 0-60 5.2secs
    e60 535d remapped 350bhp 5.5secs

so are you still saying you need an ///M to have as much fun?

m3 may be lighter but http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KSwVGkjbshQ

back on topic, its more than likely the usual SE spec 520d being drove by the typical 40 year old contractors wife leaving the kids to school that is the reason for the results of this study but there isn't much real BMW enthusiasts can do to stop these badge buying idiots. and you are if you buy anything less than a 530d,,i laugh at people buying 525d's, why would you pay the same tax as a 530d and have less power..its the same 3.0 diesel engine detuned for economy, but you can get 50+mpg from a 218bhp 530d so why do you want more?

Hardly fair to compare an 18yo car which actually had a smaller engine, to a brand new twin turbo engine with more capacity... regardless of one being petrol and the other being diesel.

Do you mean 530D road tax compared to 535D (as in, 3litre+)? Didn't know there was a such a thing as a 525D over here(in the current models)... correct me if I'm wrong.
Edit: Oh there is a 525d and it's a 3.0 as well. I'm guessing detuned or some such. Agreed then.. rather silly idea in Ireland.

I'm not a fan at all of BMW's, quite the opposite in fact. But it's a shame this survey doesn't take into consideration people's dislike for BMW drivers before they even set foot into the car.
Most people that don't have one, regardless of the fact they may be anti-BMW, want one... and there's lots of people that are bitter/envious of the people driving them so they'd subconsciously answer BMW's as their #1.

Bloody hell, it really is fanboy central in here. bmw-driver.net really ought to just annex the place. I'm sure KB would approve :D
Given the stereotype, i bought fully expecting never to be let out at a junction again. I do think clarkson has a point about the A4 taking the a**hole mantle from the 3, but I think the passat is a serious contender too.

Setting aside rude/inconsiderate drivers for a moment, how can an article about the 'worst-driven' vehicles fail to mention the school run 4X4s? There's an awful lot of catastrophically badly driven rextons, sante fe's and  X5s out there.

Never was a truer word spoken.

No Z4M, a FWD car in 2013(I'm not saying FWD is bad but BMW is the company that devised adds involving rabbits, horses and other animals to inform us about the "perils" of FWD), and the latest 5 series has been bashed by just about every car mag for not driving well(unless you get those very expensive chassis options), BMW is doing its dammdest to move away from what is supposed to be its USP.

And that begs the question, if the USP of a BMW isn't there(the Ultimate Driving Machine tagline), then what's the point of a BMW in the first place?
