    That's Drimnagh.

There's a road called Blackberry Lane in Rathmines, any time I pass it, I always imagine it's full of upper middle class people in suits.

That area of Coolock was built around the time of the Moon landing, so they named the places after the Moon countries.

    Stoneybatter or Protestant Row.

The latter sounds like a liberal sop or sectarian jibe. As it's a piss-smelling alley, I fear the latter. :)

    /QUOTE]

Before Independance, Parnell Street was called Great Britain Street. Little Britain Street was at the top of Great Britain Street, on the other side of Capel Street.

In the opposite end of the spectrum “Church Street” is the most common name.
Can you name all the streets in Dublin named after a county in Ireland?

Cork Street, Meath Street, Armagh Road are three that spring to mind.

There is a CANAL STREET that I pass on my way to work.
Each letter is on the wall in individual tiles. The letters C and S were regulary removed by someone, leaving it as CANAL STREET

There is also a road called Bellenden Walk, again, some comedian is forever leaving it reading Bellenden Walk...

I think I read recently Beaver Row is one of the streets renamed when the old red-light district (Monto) was refurbished. The new name may have been a little mischievous.

Atmospheric Lane in Dalkey is my favorite. It's named after the Atmospheric Railway line. But, it's not as romantic as it sounds: the train used an atmospheric engine, hence the name.

It always makes me giggle when I pass by Pearse Villas in Sallynoggin where they've rubbed out the P and the first E on the road signs :)

If you thought a row of them is impressive, imagine a whole town full of them - Beaverstown in Donabate.

The romantic element was lost when rats eat the leather straps on the tracks and the system ha to be discontinued
