dont want to sound harsh but your diet is pretty bad to be honest...

for breakfast: try porridge or an egg or two scrambled, boiled, or an omlette

for lunch: the mayo, bagel and galaxy bar is a disaster.. have the chicken with some salad instead, tuna and turkey are also good for variety! if you must have bread, change to wholegrain brown bread (but really if your lookin to lose two stone in 10 weeks, the starchy bread could really go)

for dinner: the veg/fish/chicken is good but try cut out the potatoes and bulk up more on veg

the biscuits etc also need to go, if you fancy a snack, have some fruit, i also find 1 or 2 rivita will keep the hunger at bay inbetween meals

and as for the special k two week challange... its nonsence basically, special k along with most (if not all, except for porridge) cereals are packed with sugar...

    whats your excerise routine like??

I knew bagels were too good to be true!
Im locked up studyin atm. But i sometimes walk up(30m) n down to school(30m). I used to take the dog out(20m) but havent gotten a chance recently.
I plan to get exercising the min the LC ends though.

well if time isnt on your side, for the next few weeks really just try clean up your diet, and you should even see a difference with that alone (my dad recently lost 2 stone just by cleaning up his diet, and he wasnt overly huge to begin with) ... diet really is the most important factor in weight loss so i wouldnt worry about not gettin to exercise until after the LC.
in saying that thought, from my own personal experience, if your taking a study break, instead of sitting infront of the tv for an hour, get out and go for a walk, it will be so much more beneficial to your studying and your weight. during my leaving cert i started every saturday and sunday mornign with a walk before i started to study, it completely clears your head and wakes you up..!

best of luck with the weight.. and the LC :)

2 stone is a really un-realistic amount of weight in such little time. There is something called The Master Cleanse that I ahve heard of but haven't ever tried where you basically live off high grade maple syrup, water, lemon juice and cayenne pepper for 2 weeks. It's really intense so maybe it's not the best thing to recommend, but look into it if you're really trying to drop the weight.

Nothing can substitute a healthy diet and exercise though.

    Don't do this.

2lbs a week is definitely achievable if you keep strict on the diet which would let you drop about 1.5 stone. Read up the stickies at the top of the forum and you'll get the basics of nutrition.

Since you're studying you're not going to have the time to research into food and nutrition. Its pretty simple but getting your head around requires a good bit of reading and rereading stuff to get it stuck in your head.

The easiest way to start loosing weight now will be to follow one of the millions of diet plans out there. Be careful what plan you pick a massive amount of them are atrocious, they put you through misery to get the weight off and don't teach you anything about food so you pile on the weight as soon as you stop doing it. Avoid any plan that recommends processed foods to you (e.g. Weight Watchers) and you do not need to buy any special brand foods or tablets on a good diet.

I quite like the basis of the Zone diet although I have never followed it, you can find a basic guide to it here: http://library.crossfit.com/free/pdf/cfjissue21_May04.pdf. I'm sure someone else can recommend some other solid plans.

Exercise will help you loose weight and will make you look better when you do loose it but you want to be doing some real exercise. Something that elevates your heart beat and gets you sweating.

agreed to a point, but the OP must have known at the outset that biscuits, galaxy bars and mayo have NO place in ones diet when trying to lose weight..

You can lose 2lbs a week alright so long as you stay strict. I've managed to lose 3.2kg in 3 weeks and I've been drinking a fair bit. You don't drink so you should be able to keep a fairly constant watch on what you're ingesting. You should already know what's good, healthy food. If you really want to lose the weight you will, you'll have no one to blame (or congratulate) but yourself. Follow the advice above, minus the cleanse crap, and you'll come out looking great.

    Good luck in the exams!

Not a good plan at the best of times, but especially when the OP is doing the Leaving Cert. The last thing she wants is to collapse in the middle of the exams because she's starving herself.

I'd agree with all the good advice diet wise given by the other posters OP but what I would recommend is to get back into the habit of walking to school every day and home again and after dinner in the evenings get that dog of yours out for a walk. Not only will you get plenty of exercise (you said it was 30 min walk to school) but it will do you the world of good mentally to have a break from the books and the fresh air and exercise will allow you to study and probably get a good nights sleep. Bring your ipod, if you have one and listen to some music on the way to school and on the way home, or enjoy the walk home with friends if they also walk and you won't even notice that you're walking 3-4 miles every day.

When I was at school I used to really enjoy the walk to and from school when it was just me and my walkman (showing my age!) and I didn't have to worry about homework or study for that half hour because I couldn't do any while I was walking. It was a great break and kept me fit.

Speaking as a teacher and not a nutritionist :)

right now i wouldn't go on the diet if i was you, i think you should be eating as much as you can, obviously not all unhealthy. concentrate on the leaving cert and then once that is over you can start dieting. i have lost nearly 2 stone in 8 weeks and i didn't do it the unhealthy way. you could lose 2 stone in 10 weeks but i remember when i was studying for my L.C, i was non stop eating like i don't mean eat loads of bad food but i think she should not reduce your calorie intake just yet.. enjoy your food while you can but maybe slightly change your diet because its bad even if you weren't trying to lose weight. yeah i agree with the others. that you should get back into walking, you need to take a break from studying and instead of watching tv or going on facebook for 30 mins go for a walk, bring the dog out :)

anyways good luck with studying and keep us posted :)

my sister went on celebrity slim to loose her baby weight. She lost 8lbs in the first week and 7 in the second, on week 3 atm. i dont imagine that it is a permenant fix but if your working on looking good for your debs id say it would be worth a try. Im going on it now, mainly because i find it difficult finding food im allowed to eat, that i want to eat while dieting which leads to me cheating. with this its two shakes and 1 high protein meal a day which make my meals more structered. quite expensive though, €45 for 10 days

Just drink two pints of milk and a high protein meal then. A hell of a lot cheaper a lot healthier.
Another one for the thumbs down.

What I find hilarious about Celebrity Slim is that they insist that you have a low-carb meal and snacks, yet the shakes are primarily sugar

€45 for 10 days worth of protein shakes? I buy really expensive protein powder and that only costs €50 for 75 shakes. What a rip off!

Don't waste your money. Go to a health food shop & talk to the shop assistant & get a good quality protein powder. I love one called Spirutein. Tastes very very good mixed juice & yogurt for instance & it's sugar content isn't bad. Has lot of other vits & minerals. Banana & Raspberry are best. I've been having this shake once a day for years now & I never get sick of it. (& no I'm not selling it or anything :p)

So have two of these homemade shakes & then a high protein meal with lots of veg. Bear in mind this is not a long term solution, you'd be better off finding a way of adjusting your eating & excercise to maintain ideal weight in the long term - lifestyle change.

A friend of mine did this to lose weight for her sisters wedding at the end of last year, I tried explaining to her she would be much better off if she watched her diet and exercised but she though this was the best thing ever, a few years ago I would have jumped on that fad diet bandwagon but thank god I've seen sense now!!

Yeah, I had a look at slim fast before and it's also mostly sugar. Holy jesus.....I couldn't think of a worse way to lose weight like.

Also, if I'm gonna have 100 calories worth of protein and I'm dieting I'd 100% rather get it from a hunk of meat than a shake and I use protein shakes regularly. Much nicer to eat than drink your calories when you're on a deficit.

seriously guys you shouldn't be suggesting all these diet drinks or whatever, just do it right and you will feel better about it in the long run, like a milkshake replacing a proper meal

she is only young and here body needs more than just a protein shake

if you read the posts properly you will see nobody is saying the op should use a diet of shakes alone.. the point being made as far as i can see is that protein shakes would be a better alternative to slimfast.

Lunch: Tuna from tin in bowl without oil ?
    Dinner: Minus potato

Exercise: Hour of walking running a day?

Ill buy weights to tone arms...
Could i lose 2 stone by doing this??

It's not enough food, either you'll end up eating junk because you're starving, or your body will hang onto all its stored energy because it thinks there's a famine.

It looks like you're trying to go the low carb route, but you need more veg for nutrients and more fat for energy. Try 3 eggs for breakfast, have the tuna for lunch but with a big salad, with olive oil. Dinner is fine as long as you have decent (i.e. big) portions of the veg and meat/fish. I'd put butter on as well.

i think that at 5'11 and size 14 that is a fine weight and size to be -- if i was at that weight at your age i would be very happy

you have plenty of time in yrs to come to be worrying about weights -- just enjoy your debs and relax and tak it all in --- it all goes too quick !!
