I was in the shower there , singing away like Dunphy after a "tired and emotional" night out . .

To my surprise in the middle of song, I realised I was singing Charles and Eddies ballad "would I lie to you baby", for no apparant reason other then it caught my half drunken imagination . .

As I continued to sing the song, the chorus got louder "look into my eyes, cant you see there open wide, would I lie to you baby, would i lie to you, Oh ye" . .

If I lived by life by these principles, I would have to accept anybody with their eyes wide are telling the truth . . So the dodgy door to door salesman has wide open eyes, so I will buy whatever S*it he is peddling ?

Just thought it would be in the interest of science to start a thread on songs words that make absolutely no sense . .

Do songs generally make no sense at all ? 6 votes

How can you even question Charles and Eddy . . . Kings of

Most U2 stuff. Oasis too. Great tunes and lots of stadium anthems but alot of it is bunkum.

I was in the gym when Take That's "Said It All" was played and listening to the lyrics I was just thinking to myself what is the point of a song that says Said it all. Nothing to say at all. Nothing to say that matters. Haven't we heard enough..?

As said the worst offenders are probably U2 and Oasis.

    "Woooaoo! Woooaoo! Woooaoo! Woooaoo!"

"Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah
Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah" (U2 Vertigo)

"The sink is full of fishes and shes got dirty dishes on the brain"

"All your dream are made of strawberry lemonade" (Oasis Some might say and Talk Tonight.)

Most songs don't but its all about the songwriter and what genre the music is in.

Like someone like Bob Dylan, Phil Lynnot or Axl Rose tell stories with their lyrics and have a certain depth to them.

And then Bands like R.A.T.M give a political message about injustice and suffering that takes place within the world.

But I suppose apart from a select few most songs are just written to be catchy, repetitive and appealing to a mass audience usually fuelled by a melody with little regard for the words

I think the more worrying thing about this lyric is that he's trying to reassure here that he wouldn't lie to her but, in answer to his own question on the topic, he confesses that he would...oh yeah!

    Life by Desiree.

    Fcukin hate that song, responsible for such insightful gems as;

    "I'm afraid of the dark
Especially when I'm in the park
When there's no one else around
    Oh I get the shivers"

Well then, don't go to the park at night time you moron.

    "I don't wanna see a ghost
It's the sight that I fear most
I'd rather have a piece of toast
    Watch the evening news"

    Desiree wanna see a ghost?.
No your all right keen edge, the news is starting and I've got some Pat the Baker wants toasting.

Lyrics don't add much to the effect of music, they're more of an afterthought really (although memorable lyrics can help a song stand out from the others).
There's plenty of music out there without lyrics (such as a lot of classical music), yet it lacks nothing in it's ability to alter your emotions (which is why we listen to music).

Music is actually a lot more rigid/scientific/objective than people give it credit for. Like it or not there are rules behind composing a song with maximum effect (although I'd imagine the process is too complicated to be fully understood on a concious level).

But then to confuse things you have the fact that people have personal tastes in music which can differ (mostly according to their cultural identity). But just because someone doesn't personally like a song (for whatever reason) doesn't mean that deep down it doesn't have an effect ;).

In short, people who listen to songs for the lyrics tend to be self-important arty ***** :P.

    *uh oh
    :pac:

    "I hear music but there's no-one there...."

You can explain most of the crap lyrics with the amount of drugs taken these days. I find it amazing that they actually sell these records, but thats the public these days.

Im talking to YOU Joe Public (well mainly Joanne Public to be honest)

killers - "are we human or are we dancer" - WTF

    Ronan Keating.
    Life is a Rollercoaster.

"Baby when you leave me I'm Sad
And when you're returning I'm glad
Grateful for the Love we Had
    Ooooooooo-oooooooo"

Couldn't he think of anything to rhyme with Had?

    Hello Seattle - Owl City

"I will disguise myself as a sleeping pill
    And descend inside of you"

    How... rapetastic!

    Also
Rude Boy by Rihanna made me go WTF, but that was mostly out of disgust

Is it just me or did large parts of that song sound like an attempt to goad someone into using a strap-on?
