Sounds like a good course, should stand well to ya!
Yea there was a few ex Irish army on the course who said the same thing! Are the commands in Irish or English? I done some foot drill with the AFS a while back and they were called in Irish!

Done in Irish! Its grand though, you get to know them, its not like you need to understand them!

    Everything's in Irish!

True, but its the irish one I'd know more about! You seem to know a fair bit about about the Navy, I'm guessing you are/or did serve at some stage? Either that or its a strong interest?

    Neither;)

Yea well i suppose it's still possible that we might hear by Friday!

I'd say its just a delay in bloods or vetting forms, if you remember MRLAZY had to get his bloods taken again about a week ago which takes about 10 days to come back anyway.

Might be in for another long week!

  • Registered Users Posts: 143 ✭✭rockagusroll

Yea true.. I'd say the starting dates might have to be pushed back now if people have to give minimum notice in work etc. Depends on when it gets sorted though!

This is a pain in the hole ha. Just rush in from work to check my emails.....and nothing. my head was wrecked all day in work wandering did they email us. Have to do it all again tomorrow.:eek:

When they say near future, it could mean anything from next week to next year with them... You wouldn't want to be counting on it, I'm already arranging a plan B!

I had my start date with them for march 6th but I put it on hold due to this.. So tempted to ring up and see if they can put me on the next intake! Have you applied or anything?

When I was down there I saw boxes of brown folders marked pot. recruits. Cant help thinking my name is sitting in that box now. A simple update isn@t too much to ask.

If you're thinking of it, I'd ring up before lunchtime thursday, they're closing for easter...

Hey guys sorry for butting in and all... But, when you have your training of about 4 years (I think, tell me if I'm wrong) what's next?? Do you go to places abroad, peacekeeping or what happens?? I really haven't a clue and I'm just curious.

    Thanks,
    James.

Once you are an Able seaman, you are free to apply for any overseas posting you like, however naval bods usually go for the more specialised jobs, such as signaller or medic, as there is no shortage of soldiers to man checkpoints, do patrols etc.
For that reason most Naval Pers would leave it till later in their career before applying to go overseas.
However, as a member of the Crew of a naval vessel, you will be travelling all over the place as soon as you an ordinary seaman.
Last year one of the ships went to South America, and returned via the Pacific and Panama Canal.

I need to know soon, otherwise I'll be setting my mind on something else!!
