Anyone gonna pick this up? Its a Kart Racer with Little Big Planet customization. I may well pick it up seeing as the wife likes to play Mario Kart and similiar racing kart racing games. It has been getting very good reviews, better than i had expected.
Sorry if this had been posted already

    Its out 21/05/10

I have been looking forward to this for months, Smyths, Gamestop and Xtravision all have exclusive Mod packs if you buy it in their stores, there is a Psp demo up to download on the American PSN at the moment, pretty good game so far, hope the finished version lives up to the build up.

The final version would want to be a hell of a lot better than what the beta was if I am to buy it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 593 ✭✭✭Scráib

It looks like it could be very good alright, I'm hoping for a PS3 demo at some point.

If enough people take to the online racing and use the track builder it could become a surprise hit.

Same here, was very disappointed by the beta. It was so long ago I can't even remember why I didn't like it, I just remember trying it for 10 minutes and then deleting it from my hard drive. Might buy it in a few months if I find it cheap, but definately won't be buying it when it comes out.

I tried the PSP demo today. Seems okay. I'd like to try the PS3 version before deciding to purchase.

Should I decide to buy I will pick it up in a bargain bin some time down the line.

Reading a review for Joystiq and it said there is a steep learning curve to play this game for people thinking they are going to get a "Mario Kart" game. Just to let people know that are going to get this for their girlfriends/wives... They might end up getting frustrated and putting the controller through the telly :D

Anyway, I will be picking this up. Looks good/fun :)

Any news on the prices for this?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,509 ✭✭✭NotorietyH

I saw it for €45 in Game there earlier, couldn't see it in HMV.

45 in gamestop. Reply if its any good, tempted by it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,081 ✭✭✭Grumpypants

I like it so far. Didnt play much on line as the servers where dodgey early in the week but should be fine now for proper release. Was also playing Alan Wake so that took up most of my time.

Mod is good fun the track building is addictive. It has 4 way split screen so if you are looking for an old fashioned get every one over for a few beers and races then this is great fun. Not sure would you spend much time in the single player career mode though beyond using it to practice.

If you liked LBP and you like mario kart then you will like this, it is lots of fun. If you want a serious racer or have no interest in cute character building then id pass on it.

45 in gamestop. Reply if its any good, tempted by it.

Was €49.99 in Gamestop Galway, €54.99 in Xtravision, €49.99 in Smyths and €44.99 in HMV. Didn't check game, Tesco aren't stocking it.

In case anyone is interested ive my review up now if you dont want to visit the site i gave it 90% and said its great but load times are a killer !;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,779 ✭✭✭dmcg90

Played it for a day now.

It is great, the mechanics are great, the track designing is genius and the ModSpot is a great idea.

Only downsides are the servers at the moment, the career mode could of had a bit more work but overall its great. I just know between this and LBP2 im going to be designing a hell of a lot more.

Gonna try and do a recreation of Galway City in it this afternoon. :)

The wife is in town, tempted to call her up and tell her to pick it up, arrgh. What to do

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,081 ✭✭✭Grumpypants

I think its worth it for 45

    You convinced me, lol :D

I picked it up there earlier after finding the demo intriguing. Have only played it for about half an hour with Red Dead and Battlefield stealing my attention for the afternoon, but I really like it so far. It feels good, has charm and the customization stuff seems excellent. Like Forza Karts or something!

Good description actually. Loads of customising in it. Once you get the hang of drifting its great fun. You gain "boost" from drifting that you can use to boost obviously ! but also to create a shield around you if you are under attack or if you flick the right stick you can smash into other drivers knocking them off the track. So its a good balance of judging your weapons and powers as well as driving.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,509 ✭✭✭NotorietyH

Yeah I love the drifting mechanic in it. I was playing there for a bit more and I'm really enjoying it. Built my first track and all. I haven't noticed any rubber-banding or anything, it seems like a pretty fair and deep driving system, especially for a Cart-racer. I like the different levels of power-ups. Adds a tactical element to it, do you fire off a weaker power-up or hold on for a level 2 or 3 one, but risk losing it all together if you get hit. I'm very impressed with it.

    The Everlasting Sackboy MNR Code

This morning Sony sent out emails to random PSN users advertising the fact that ModNation Racers is out. In the email was a promo code for Sackboy – enter it into the Redeem Code bit on the Store and you’ll get Sackboy in MNR ready for driving.
Except that the codes are all the same: 85T6-EMB6-HLL8. Enter it, it’s yours.
    And yours.

This game is great. I hope the online aspect gets fixed in terms of getting a race quickly. I also wish there was a way that it would help you promote your designs.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,713 ✭✭✭Bonavox

Yeah I'm loving it. The creation tools are brilliant and it's only a matter of time before the community blossoms and becomes another LittleBigPlanet.

For anyone interested, here's our review of the game.

    /ends shameless self plugs

I gave it 86% for those of you lazy people :D

Does anyone find that online XP races are much slower in matchmaking than casual races?

Is this a fullprice game? If I could get it cheap I might turn on my PS3 for the first time in months.

    Its R2/L2 to drive/break
    L1 to Boost
    X to drift/jump

Right stick is only for sideswiping opponents and spins in the air.

i already own sonic all stars racing and apart from the customisation imo its a better game

I actually taught the career mode was going to be easy. Its actually tough and the AI are clever. Enjoying this game :-)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,526 ✭✭✭✭2smiggy

the career mode is tough. really have to have the boost bar half full alot of the time, just for shield alone. any mistake its very hard to get back into the race.

I played my first few races in this earlier today. I thought it was pretty good. A bit more complicated than Mario Kart but still fun.

I thought the online area where you can see new tracks, racer mods and the top mods was excellent.

WHeres the cheapest place I could buy this??

I downloaded the demo today, it's almost exactly like mario kart on the wii, but worse handling! Wouldn't be arsed buying it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,439 ✭✭✭Josey Wales

Man, this game is far too hard for it's own good.

I agree. I havent played it in a while. A challenge is good, but pure unbridled frustration at a game is just not the intended goal of gaming is it. Really disappointed.
Might go back for the online when its fixed though, that was a lot of fun.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,139 ✭✭✭martineatworld

It's available in Gamestop (Henry st anyway) for 20e if you trade in a game... Some games are cheap enough to buy in HMV next door which could then allow it to cost a total under 30e...

Want it, hope it's like Speed Freaks, god I loved that game... People saying it's hard is making it seem brilliant...!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,526 ✭✭✭✭2smiggy

its so hard in career mode to get every challenge from each race. so many times i have got what i needed from the race, and winning it coming towards the finish to be taken out. takes so many attempts on each track.
i'm on the fourth set of races now, but still have a fair bit to finish on the previous sets of races.

how is every one else getting on?

its also hard to get a race on multiplayer with more than 4 people. also when i win, sometimes get disconnected when i finish and it shows u as a forfeit for me :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,608 ✭✭✭irish_stevo815

Ok so i am really considering picking up this game. I have the demo and really enjoyed it. I'm just wondering if it is still as enjoyable playin like 2 weeks later, or is it a long lasting game that will have you playing for months?

I bought UFC undisputed 2010 the day it came out, but i'm kinda bored of it already (not as good as i first thought) so i could trade it in and get MNR cheap enough.

I read today on the Playstation Blog that the new patch for ModNation will decrease the difficulty of the career mode. It might bring me back to the game.

That's pretty cool as some of the career challenges have me pretty stumped.

Was just thinkin actually, if anyone was interested, we could make this thread to let people show off their creations so other ppl can download them and add them as friends, etc.

Anybody playing this? Picked it up yesterday and am having great fun with. The servers seems to be a useless at the moment.

The create a track/mod/kart is good and easy to use!

I'm waiting on the patch that will ease up the difficulty level. Sounds bad, but I find the AI infuriating in the game.

I got this when I recently bought a PS3 - welcome back to gaming me!

I am loving it. I am on the second last race of the career challenge and love racing online. Some of the races can be quite manic but overall just great fun. I have never sworn at my telly so much but am loving almost every minute of it.

The learning curve through the career path is reasonable - there are one or two very difficult challenges, but I have found that when I re-visit them they are not quite as difficult as they first seemed.

Woo hoo, the patch update will be here next Wednesday (August 4th).

    This fron IGN:
Yes, the much-anticipated patch that United Front Games has been talking about since the release of ModNation Racers is coming Wednesday, August 4 and it's tweaking a whole bunch of stuff so that the game feels better than ever. Just what does that include?

    Well...

    Slashed Load Times
Yes, there are still going to be load times, but Sony is reporting that in some cases those loads will be 50 percent faster.

    Casual Difficulty FTW
A lot of folks dug the gameplay in ModNation Racers, but they were getting pwned by the game's AI-controlled opponents; those computerized bastards never gave Player 1 a break! Well, this patch introduces Casual Difficulty Mode. This should give people who just want to have some fun the chance to do so without having to worry about hurling a controller after getting sideswiped in the third lap.

    Friends with XP Benefits
Racing in XP Races and Series is key to earning experience points and leveling-up online. However, as it stands, you can't invite your friends to XP outings. It kind of sucks the fun out of your multiplayer romp. Well, on Wednesday, that'll be a thing of the past. This patch allows you to invite your buddies to races and series, so go level grind!

    Death to Hot Lap Cheaters
Apparently, this patch will fix a bug that allowed players to cut through tracks and post ridiculous times in the online Hot Lap section. Only a few more days to steal the spotlight, kids!

    The Ultimate Collector
Player cards -- the profile showing what you've whipped up -- will now display all of you creations and not just some of them.

Get Online Faster and Stay There
United Front Games is also fixing MNR so that you'll be able to jump into online races faster than ever. The developers say that this has been done by removing "the online game room from the ModSpot." On top of that, the server's been upgraded to help get rid of those pesky disconnects people were having to deal with. We'll see how that works on Wednesday.

    Attain the Unattainable (Challenges)
United Front Games has listened to all of your ranting and raving and honed in on three challenges that it agrees are just too damn tough. When you download the patch on Wednesday, expect different completion conditions on the Devastator takedown on Wild Run, the Devastator takedown on Modobahn and the "sideswipe three opponents on the cliff side" task on Fracture.

    Free Stuff
The Tin Bucket item will be unlocked for everyone! Hooray!

This looks good i gotta say, especially the Faster load times and changing some of the requirements for challenges. Oh and the crazy difficulty on some races :D
